Lipstick on my silk veil

Any recommendations for the best way to remove lipstick from silk? My beautiful new veil has a big smudge on it. Wah!

That happened to me before too. I hand washed the spot in a gentle soap and let it hang to dry. No problems. I don't know where you got the veil, maybe test this on a corner to make sure the dye doesn't run.

According to Martha Stewart, the perfect way is to first treat grease stains with mineral spirits (from an arts supply store), then rinse that out with isopropyl alcohol, and then wash. Of course, that may be overkill for a tiny stain, and I have not clue what these chemicals do to silk.

Can't you just picture Martha Stewart caring for all of her belly dance costumes and silk veils.

If she were a belly dancer, she could write a costume care manual.

I am sure Martha would have GREAT ideas for crafting for the belly dancer. Imagine what projects she would show us for decorating a dance room: Stenciling the walls of our practice room, make decorated boxes with rhinestones for our make-up, how to bead costumes, show us how to perfectly store our costumes ... - maybe we should start a letter-writing campaign for a special-theme week for her show ;-)

This just happened to me too! I got a big red lipstick smear on my white silk veil. I used OxyClean spray, rubbed the stain, ran some water over it and it was as good as new.

If you veil is dyed with color, I would test a small out of the way part to make sure it doesn't do anything funny with the dye.

i use Ivory dish washing liquid. my grandmother is the ultimate house keeper and she swears by the stuff to take stains out of fabric withut damaging the material. Also as a floor wash mixed with vinegar and water.

ps it also works great diluted as a flea bath for doggies. its really mild and gentle and it works by disolving the waxy outer coating of the flea, then it sinks into their blood streams and poof! no more fleas and no harsh chemicals for your dog. random, i know. but it works!
