If you are in need of larger sized costumes, both dahlah and farida in England carry larger sized costume (www.dahlal.com and www.faridadance.com).

The red costume from Belly Dance With K is lovely, but already sold. Most of what she lists as XL sizes are hardly XL at all. And if they are truly plus sized they are sold immediately.

Dahlal has very few true plus sized costumes and the selection rarely changes. Of course, you can special order.

Dahlal could do great service and gain some loyal customers by stocking attractive plus size dresses and designs that flatter larger body types. Some of the hourglass shaped Pharoanics or some figure skimming rather than figure hugging numbers would appeal to many larger dancers. Plus some larger cups in bras. Costumes for plus sized dancers can't just be the same costume made larger.

I've always thought exactly the same thing. I can barely find costumes that fit around my ribcage, never mind helping my daughter or students who have much fuller figures than mine!

But when I went with Andrea on her buying trip to Cairo, I learned that a 'plus size' costume to the designers & manufacturers there is maybe a 36C! 95% of the costumes available are about a 34B.

So don't be too hard on Dahlal & the others, it's not like Cairo is full of figure-flattering plus-size costumes that they're refusing to stock. Andrea and I deliberately asked for larger costumes, over and over, everywhere we went, and we just got blank looks.

I suspect it's because in Cairo, while everyone may dance to some degree or another, only the pros are wearing costumes?

It also does not pay for a designer to make a sample costume in a larger size. Not cost effective.

Well what I was thinking was to display some of the "standard" costumes that would flatter a larger figure and offer then as custom orders. Okay, you can do that anyway. But how much nicer to show discouraged larger gals what might look good on them. Kind of like what Tim did showing a gypsy/tribal/fusion look for plus sized model along side the same look for a smaller model.

Ive been trying to find somewhere that stocks larger bra sizes for over a year now, its impossible. I am a G cup and I can not find anywhere that has nice stuff for my size. Am saving up for a trip to cairo to get some made.

So I'm not crazy?? I can't afford a custom costume and where am I going to find one that's got 39" upper hips and 44" lower hips with a 34DD bra. What a relief to know I'm not the onlly one who feels this way!
