Eman vs. Eman
I'm thinking of getting another folkloric costume from Eman and I can't decide between these two. They are both pants/folkloric costumes. One of them is pictured in two colors (blue and red) from Dahlal's web site. Soraya used to have it in gold and Randa currently wears it in dark blue. The other one is a black assuit costume. I posted pics of a dancer wearing them as well as Soraya doing a drum solo on you tube in this costume (she doesn't wear Eman anymore). Which costume do you think is prettier, more flattering on the body, which one would you get, etc...?
I'd appreciate your input as I'm torn between the two!
Here is the video of Soraya if you want to see the costume in action:

and some stills of both:

I like the top one better...it reminds me of the one on clearance at bellydancewithK. Something so...ancient-yet-modern...I like it a lot!

I have the one on the bottom in a dark navy. I got a lot of compliments on it when I wore it recently. The pants are truly voluminous on the bottom though - fun!

I also prefer the top one and think it would be really flattering. But, the bottom one is more versatile....you could go with or without the vest for a whole new look.

FWIW, I actually like the bottom one in the bronze color with the turquoise accents. The black assiut is very pretty, too, I like it better in the stills than on the video because of the massive necklace/drape in the front on the video looks a bit overwhelming. I also think that black is not the most flattering color for Soraya (based in this video, haven't seen her in person.)
If you have black or very dark hair the black assiut would look stunning. If your hair is sort of bronze-y the bronze would be fabulous.
They are both cute if you are petite and young, I think. Not for me, though!

I know this isn't helpful, but I like 'em both. I think I saw Orit in something similar to the bottom one, and I actually didn't lke it then, but it grew on me... On second thought, it think I like the second one better, although they are both cute.

Yes, Orit has something similar. Its black with the giant turquoise chunky beads. I think its in the same style as the bottom one (Dahlal).

Tamrahenna: if you are not shy, would you mind posting a picture of yourself wearing that costume?

I'm a little concerned about the assuit pants. They are pretty baggy from hip to ankle, whereas Dahlals' one is at least fitted around the hips. For my body type, its best that I wear pants that are more slimming vs. baggy and I think Dahlal's pants are more slimming. Also, my chest is not eactly small (34 D) so I'm afraid that the triangular black drape of the assuit one will make my chest look big and boxy. Also, I like the vest in Dahlal's because its very flattering around the abdomen and my waist is 23" whereas in the assuit one because everything is so loose and baggy my figure may get hidden in it. So perhaps I am answering my own question regarding which one would be best!

Yes, the bottom of the pants are huge, if I were to get this costume I would probably have my seamstress streamline them a bit.

Haha, I'll have to take a pic of me in it later. It's a fairly new (to me) costume and I've only worn it a couple of times, so no action shots.

I think you need a long torso, so that you don't look trunc-ated. pardon the pun.
I have one, like Soraya's, but the medallion is off center and I haven't gotten around to fixing it.

i absolutely love the bottom one. i've come very close to buying it, coz i think it's the cutest thing ever.
don't like the top one at all. i think that top is very unflattering; the scarf seems like an afterthought stuck on to try to hide something, which is bad enough but to make it worse, the end result is a sleeveless turtleneck which i think is the most horrible style ever. apologies to anyone who likes it, but i really can't stand that look.

Actually, having studied it closely with input from friends when I almost bought the bellydancewithK one -- it's not a great knockoff.
The original Eman one that Soraya wears has pantlegs that hug the thighs then flare gracefully. The knockoff has elephant legs. The original has the opaque part (or undergarment?) in a sexy hotpants shape. The knockoff has an unflattering soccer-mom-shorts length. There are other discrepencies, of course, but the price was sorely tempting until I took a closer look!
To answer your question, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice, I love both costumes.

I have the bottom one in black and love it! But I also really like the top one.
Kina, I didn't know you have an Eman Saidi... that's just calling for a duet!!

Pssssst....Christina - are you dancing regularly somewhere now - I'm following your costume frenzy vicariously & figure you must be putting all these amazing outfits to major use!
I thought, though, that you weren't dancing at the moment

Carolynn: thanks for your input. I find myself leaning towards the Dahlal one, too. They are both referred to as modern saidi. Since you know me, can you let me know which one you think would flatter my figure better? At first I was only going on the "look" of the costume, but then I quickly realized that I need to pick the one that actually compliments my figure and I am starting to think that the Dahlal one is more flattering for my smaller waist. I mentioned in a post above that because my chest is big but my overall frame is small, the turtle neck may actually hide my waist and skin, make my chest look big and boxy and just be too much loose hanging fabric for my small frame. What do you think? Also, you mentioned you may order it. Just curious, what color? I am thinking of red. I need to ask Eman what colors it comes in, so far, I know dark blue, red and gold.
