What makeup are you lovin' these days?
I'm looking for new foundation, both for everyday and for performance.
My skin is beginning to show some fine lines, uneven texture, etc. but it's not terribly dry, ancient or crusty... yet.
For everyday, I'd like something light, between a tinted moisturizer and a foundation. Dewy but not shiny. And under $30 (why yes, I do squeak when I walk. Why do you ask? ).
For performance, more coverage but not pancake -- this is for private parties & hafla situations, not Theatah.
Got a favorite?

Me too!
Ooo, Ooo, me too! I'm always looking for a better foundation, but just can't afford to try everything under the sun.
I have another recommendation request for you guys- what do you think is best for pale skin? The best color match I've ever found was Prescriptives, but it didn't hold up well in performance...

I just bought an awesome foundation (I just use it for performance, I wear mineral makeup for day-to-day, when I even wear foundation at all) but it's heart-stoppingly expensive.
I put down $60 for the Dior spray-on foundation. I figured since you never touch it, it won't grow bacteria and fungus the way liquid foundations do, so it will last longer. And the finish is spectacular! It's very light and thin, but looks so pretty, and covers my redness and acne scars really well.

spray on makeup
re: expensive Dior sprayon:
From the sublime to the, er, everyday: Sally Hanson Airbrush makeup http://www.beautyspotcosmetics.co.uk...up5.asp;winks:
Never used it, so no opinion. Just saw it the other day at the drug store and wondered WTF?

The Sally Hansen you're supposed to spray into your hand and put on with your fingers, which seems like a waste of time. Supposedly it has too coarse of a sprayer to spray on directly.
The Dior is designed to spray right on your face, and leaves a beautiful finish. I wonder if I could get it cheaper on ebay?

I just got the Bare Essentials mineral make-up for everyday and I'm really liking it. We're in the same approximate age group and this stuff covers a lot of little imperfections but doesn't look goopy or masklike.
Sephora sells a getting started kit for $60 which has two shades of foundation, 3 brushes, Mineral veil finishing powder, bronzer and a moisturizer.

Just out of curiosity, isn't spray on a bit messy? I think I'd have it everywhere except where I wanted it. like all over my hair my ears my hands...
Just curious...

I've been wearing Bare Minerals for about a year now. Not for performance, but for everyday. Ordered it from Sephora. I use the foundation, the "Well Rested" concealer, and love the 24K powedered eye shadow. I was also using the Mineral Veil powder but found that Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Powder worked just as well for about 1/3 the price. Physicians Formula does have a Mineral Wear Foundation but it is a cream with sponge applicator.
If you want something creamy you can mix the Bare Minerals foundation with some moisturizer and apply. But I love the powder because it is so fast. And it actually looks better and better as the day wears on.

I thought so too, but amazingly it isn't. I almost thought I wasn't getting any on, but my skin looked perfect.
I'm also a mineral makeup fan, but I gave up Bare Escentuals in favor of Everyday Minerals. I have olive skin, and although the #2 color of BE worked ok for me, Everyday Minerals actually has foundations in olive tones. also, they have matte, semi-matte, glowy and extra coverage formulations, and cost half as much as Bare Escentuals.

I started using Bare Minerals foundation about six months ago even for performance and I will NEVER go back to any other type of foundation. It covers my little red "patches", coverage is amazingly effective and actually my skin is in better condition. I tried the Mineral Veil but it's too pale even for me and I'm pale, so I went for the "Tinted Mineral Veil" to take just a bit of shine off my T-zone. I don't bother with liquid foundations even for performance any more.
Right now though, my favorite make up item is my new black Lancome "Artist" brush liquid eyeliner. Goes on smooth and stays put - but it was heck to pay for it at $29 (not including tax, yikes) - next time I'll try to get it on e-Bay. I just hate cheap liquid eyeliners that go on okay but then they simply "fade" out before I even get to performance!

I like using a tinted moisturiser everyday, the kind that has SPF in it. I sometimes go ahead and use it as a base for "heavier" make-up too. I have oily skin and the brands I have been using are Aveda, MAC and Sephora's house brand, all of which are in the $20 and less range.

If you're looking for a less-pricey option of spray foundation, MAC makes a great one. I've found the least messy way to apply it is to spray it somewhere like a palette, or, what's easiest for me - the back of your hand, and then apply it with a foundation brush or sponge.
As for every day foundation, Lauren, I'd suggest Bobbi Brown - it probably won't be under $30, but I think you'll like it. L'Oreal also makes a good liquid foundation (True Match).

I like the makeup line that Meleah sells - see http://www.meleah.com/ . She's a fellow dancer, and has designed her makeup line to have good staying power even when you "glow" after performing a set.

<whacks everyone with cane>
Why you crazy whippersnappers! Back in MY day, we shopped for makeup at Walgreen's. A lipstick was $2, foundation was $3.50. It turned our faces orange and streaked, but we were HAPPY to have it, I tell you.
OK, I'll go to Sephora.

True dat.
Just in the interest of sharing, btw, here are some of my recent makeup experiments:
I LURVE:
Tarte Flush cheekstain - mixes with foundation to give a totally natural glow
Nars Orgasm blush - on my cheeks & my eyelids, totally natural
Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion in Prism -- cheekbones, browbones, shoulders, I LOVE this stuff!
LipFusion Color Shine in Sexy - sheer red shiiiiiiny lip plumper --grrrrrowl, this is HOT!
I also recently tried Diorshow mascara -- the brush is too freakin' big, I feel like I'm putting it on with a toilet brush!

Ahh Yes
I was blessed with troubled skin.
I have to wear Neutrogena Skin clearing foundation & powder or my pores have a revolution.
I add revlon mineral shimmer lights (powder or cream) when I don't want a matte look.
plus anything by Urban Decay....XO Shah

I actually really like my Mary Kay foundation, which is a medium coverage oil free formulation if I recall correctly. It's liquidy and fresh looking, and best of all matches my skin quite nicely without turning me into a yellow hag. The MK lady who chose it for me selected the lighter, rather than the exactly matching, one, and her instincts were right, because she gave me back my old skin. Often makeup artists find a fairly light colour that is, technically, a perfect match but I look dull, sallow and old in it. My face is sundamaged and my body mostly isn't, so I would rather match my body than my freckles.

I've had really good luck and lots of compliments with Revlon "New Complexion" foundation. I usually use it combined with a light dusting of Coty powder. Definitely not expensive. It's a full-fledged foundation, I spose, but it has never looked or felt that way to me. It stands up really, really well during performances. This is what I use for everyday and for performing, though I probably put it on slightly heavier when performing.
I like Bare Minerals, too, but I've found that it gets crusty/dry/cakey on my drier areas - like the corners of my nose. Especially if used for performance. For me, Bare Minerals is a "mood" thing.. sometimes I'm just in the mood for it. It seems like more of an artistic experience. I think I wanna try the everyday minerals product that Antimony has mentioned. :)

They offer free samples - with 3 foundations, a blush, and a concealer. I wear the olive fair, but will probably switch up to olive medium for summer once I get some color. I got their green correcting concealer for covering up redness, and it works really well. (and the sample size of the corrector will last me forever)

I Love my new "Bourbon" eye pencil from Urban Decay. It's a good brown that that has mini flecks of gold in it! Works great for a brow liner, eyeliner, and eye shadow....can you tell I love multi tasking?
