Pregnancy dancing

Hiya, I'm a newbie!

I'm doing some research on dancing in pregnancy - I've been doing it myself for the last 37 weeks but I'm trying to put a lesson plan together while I'm still in a state to try it out myself!

Can anyone point me in the direction of any previous threads or useful articles? Or even DVDs you've used and found useful?

Thanks so much.

Glad you brought this up, one of my students gave me some happy news recently & I'd like info on how to keep her safe.

I can strongly recommend this DVD by British dancer Stephanie Gawne Hamza

http://www.bellydance4bumps.co.uk/

It is the best DVD on the subject that I have ever come across.

My Mom's name is Elspeth :) She's only met one other Elspeth in her entire life (She immigrated from Scotland when she was very young) I'm so happy to see another Elspeth.

I've only seen this one around. I haven't seen it

You can search for "pregnancy" to find more.

Good luck!

Delilah probably wrote the book on dancing whilst pregnant. She has a performance video of her dancing whilst in her 3rd trimester and also has an instructional video.

My hubby gave it to me. I have to say I found it a bit boring, I'm in 5th month and still quite flexible so the steps Naia did were more of a soft warm-up to me than an workout. Especially when you picked up the routine and don't need the explanations of the steps any more I found it quite short.

Maybe it will be more challenging for me in my 7th month (as she is in her 7th month herself in the video)

Welcome Elspeth, when is your baby due? or did I mis-read your post?

I must say I'm in awe of dancers who continue dancing during pregnancy..I was too busy throwing up and feeling tired to do anything:) But I know a lot of dancers here kept busy and got right back into dancing after baby was born :)

Aw, thanks guys, that's so helpful. I'm gonna order the Naia DVD, I was just checking that it's multi-region so it'll play in my wee Scottish DVD player! I think it sounds more like an introduction for non-dancers starting to dance when they get pg, which is what I'm looking for.

I have the Bellydance4bumps DVD and personally I felt it didn't make enough
concessions to pregnancy. As a pregnant person I was struggling with it and I've been dancing 9 years! But there is plenty of good info on the inside leaflet.

Baby (number 2) is due in less than 3 weeks, and I finished teaching two weeks ago, did my last performance about 3 weeks ago. I love dancing pregnant, if anything I found it more fun this time than last time round!

Thanks lots everyone,
Elspeth xxx
