looped help

I’am remodeling a costume I have. It’s one of those costumes with way to much fringe. I plan to remove the fringe and rebead it so that it is looped fringe. My question is should I make only a few really really long beaded strands, and sew them to the costumes in a looped way or should a bead a whole whole lot of smaller stands to sew on separately? I also wasn’t to do some beading across the top of the bra and belt. Any suggestions of something simple? And pictures of great looped costumes would help. Thanks

This post is begging for a picture of a great loop. I don't have them, but if you go to dahlal and search for 'great loop' you'll find some pictures.

I have some costumes with looped fringe myself and I feel that large loops don't move as well as smaller loops. Large loops are also more susceptible to breaking or getting stuck to the beading on your wristband/skirt/etc. Bella has beautiful designs with looped fringe on the bra and it looks great.

I have made 4 looped bras so far. I will try to take pictures and post it.

One was an original great loop but wanted my belly covered more, so I thinned out the middle loops, and by using the same beads and some other bigger ones (5-6 different kinds in the same color tone) made the loops.

I have a Topkapi set, and I finally had enough of all that finge, so completely took the fringe apart and rebeaded the whole front. It took a few hours, but the more you do it the quicker it gets.

I have 2 Phraonics that were just too naked for me, so I did the same thing.

So far I haven't lost any beads.
This is how I did it: I put the bra on a mannequin (or a hanger would do) and set it front of it. For me what worked best is the sew directly on the bra. Pull the needle through the bra, bead it and when you think it's long enough, you attach it to the other cup, and so on. I also made some loops separately and then attached it to the bra. This is more comfortable, because you are not stuck to the bra, with your arms constantly up in the air. But I found that sometimes the string (or if connected the cirlce) was to large/too big, and didn't hang the way I wnted it to.

For the bra to look good and the loops to move well:
-don't just attach them on the bottom of your cups
-attach most of the on the actul cups on top, in the middle, and then work your way to the bottom.
-the biggest, longest loops need to come from the bottom of the cups, more on the outside, than the inside.
-the smallest loops will be on top, coming from the top area.
This way iy will also look nice from the side.

I really like the way it turned out, there's one more bra I am going to redo (it's also a Pharaonics)

I don't know if my description is clear, but I wil try to take pictures and that should help.

Oh I would love to see pics of the loops you have done. I am making myself a great loop style costume but have never made loop fringe only straight.

Ok, I took some pictures today. My camera is kind of old, so it doesn't show a lot of details unfortunately.

How do I post pictures? I've never done it. The only thing I see is to insert image - post URL of image....

I think there is a way to put them in yor bhuz gallery and then post them from there but the way I do it is the way I was told by a friend to open an account with photobucket.com and then you are able to upload photos from your home computer into the photobucket album. Once your pics are in your album underneath each pic you have choices of a few different url's for posting. Hope this helps. Maybe someone else out there has an easier way.

I cant wait to see the pices YOu add a pic by just attaching it to the comment. When you go to add a comment to the topic look at the bottom of the message box, you will see another box called "additional options" just attach the file.

Ok, I guess they showed up alright. Unfortunately my camera refused to catch all the details.

I 1st made the raspberry one, then the copper, then the mint green and then the turquoise I believe. It was the same technique, I put the bra on this half/mannequin, set in front of it and kept on beading. Occasionally I had to try it on to see if the loops were long enough.

I used the original beads that were attached (usually hanging in the middle) and added some more silver or gold beads, different sizes. For the mint and turq. bra I used big blastic beads I bought at Wal-Mart. It may sound cheap but it's pretty close up. In each bag there are 6-7 shades of similar color, such blue: sky blue, turquose, light, dark, etc. It was perfect.

For the copper I bought different size and shaped brown, orange and copper beads, and the raspberry already came with the extras. If you use bigger beads mixed with the small ones you don't need to make that many loops.
Normally while I'm at it I make a necklace of the left over beads.

I think I need to add some more loops to the copper, and the bottom loop now seems too low - I lost 4-5 lbs, so I guess I can show an inch more :))

I hope this helped.

The mint green doesn't show up as it is actually. The loops are of mint green and some silver beads - in the picture it shows as white and it seems that there are much less loops. It's because of the sunlight. In reality it is a little deeper mint green, really pretty.

Thank you !

I haven't added any rhine stones or anything else besides the beaded loops. The copper one is an original Great Loop with all the rhine stones already on it.
I only touched the middle loop - thinned it out by cutting about every 2nd or 3rd or so and then replacing them with loops made of the same beads mixed in with bigger loops. But now it took only 1 "line of loop" instead of 2-3, because of the size, so I had left over to make the loops bigger. I even had enough to add 1 loop to the belt (ot looks nice) and make a necklace.

The turquoise Topkapi took the most work. The fringe had silver beads at the end (3 beads at each end) but the silver came off and now they were ugly gray. I think that was another reason to redo it. So I took the fringe apart, and also sewed them on at the base of the rhine stones - this way there were 2" short fringes hanging. I made an extra one for each rhinestone, so from each there is 3 hanging , and then there are the loops in the middle.
