I suppose I'll just have to deal with fixing shoulders. Hey, I wonder if I'm getting kind of stooped shoulders already? eeps.[/quote]
Naw your shoulders are fine. It's just that they cut their clothes to different proportions.

You could make it a 2 piece, use the mid section to add to the bra part, I love the Neck Line maybe use some of the dimonds here and there on the bra to cover more, and put a few on the Booty. Just a thought

The cutouts on the leg are at just the right height on me.
I think you're tall, right Dunyah?

I'm 5'7" and have big shoulders/bust so it might not work for me.

If you are selling -- how tall are you? I was thinking when I looked at it originally that I might have to add length to it somehow.

Yep, I also nominate the gold fringe belt, what a great score.
it makes me think of all the dresses sitting in the back of a dress shop I looked after for a friend last year. some must be 10 or more years old, velvet and sparkles galore, I reckon if I offered her $100 for 4 or 5 dresses she would accept.

Dani,
My suggestion would be a very simple gold fringe belt. Very narrow and simple. You can make one easily yourself by stitching several layers of grosgrain ribbon together, tacking the fringe to the lower edge of the ribbon and folding the top layer over and stitching it down. Then attach hooks and eyes. You can add sequins or glue on rhinestones to the ribbon if you want or make the top layer from velvet ribbon or cover with other fabric. This very narrow belt could be worn over just about anything, even over jeans!
The other possibility would be just a simple rhinestone chain belt. Or you could add a little bit of random strands of fringe here and there.

Your pics do look great - nice color and figure flattering. I think taking up the shoulders just a small amount might help. For jiggle I would add fringes approx 3 -4 " length in those sets of three here and there on the front diamond shapes and then continue them around to the back. Very cute!

Dunyah,
I'm 5'6 and by the time I take up the shoulders, the dress will be too short on me even. I think it will have to go in the "for sale" bin after all this weekend. I'm going to work on it a little and see if I can fix it without ruining it.
But I think a bigger bust and broad shoulders is actually what it needs! I'll measure the length overall and let you know when/if I post it on teh swap pages.

The only problem is, with the armholes being where they are, the bra might be visible...
I love the dress, and you are looking so good!!!!!! You're really doing great.

Dani, what if you just wore a decorated bra under the dress that would look good even if it showed through the armholes or peeped out under the bodice. Then you don't have to try and shorten a short dress. If the hip scarf/belt and the bra matched, it would look deliberate and kind of sexy if the bra showed a bit.
Costumes, they give us fits, don't they? (Ooh, pun not intended, but hey.) Seems like there's always something. We need dressers and seamstress who can just sew the costumes on our body before we dance.

Well, to be truthful, I didn't notice the armhole until I saw the picture really so on the body it's comfy. the dress doesn't gap or anything - but it is truly just too long from shoulder to waist for my body.
I bought a dress today that I will have to fix tonight for the same reason - they are all fitting me like this these days, it seems. I have to pull the shoulders up a good inch. weird problem to have.

If it feels too big, not supportive enough, etc., you could add some mesh or buy more velvet to bring the armhole up.
I guess I'm asking, is that the design of the dress, or does it feel like it's just too big(does it gap near the armholes?) Can't tell from the pics.

Yasmindiab,
Thanks for the nice post - it's getting there - I have a long way to go yet but I'm lots closer. A few more months and I should be where I need to be. I hope.

Do you have a short torso? I do, and this happens to me all the time, I have to take things up in the shoulder area so that they fit, which sometimes screws with the neckline.

help
Kina,
I do have a short torso. It's weird because I've never thought of myself as having particularly long legs and I am 5'6" so the height is coming from somewhere! I'm feeling totally misshapen today - I had to take up the new dress I bought about 2 inches on each shoulder strap last night to make it fit me properly. Then I realized, d'oh, why didn't I try on the smaller sized dress? that might have helped. oh well.
So costuming wise - if anyone is still reading this thread - what is the recommendation for a short torso? what looks best? probably the eman zaki type minimal designs?

I have a short torso, so I often have to shorten the straps on my bras ALL THE WAY! I usually buy petite tops and jackets, but I have big boobs for my size, so I usually buy them in a size bigger. So I wear about a 10 petite or a medium.

I think that's the ticket. It sort of warps my brain to shop petites but at least for tops and dresses I need to. (warps in that I always think of myself as being gigantic not petite!)

I think the dress does need the armholes raised 1/2" - it would not be all that much shorter and having them that low is distracting because it somehow makes the entire top part of dress look skimpy when it's not and your're not (skimpy, I mean). Your tummy is cute in this dress; boobage is perfectly fine; your butt is fine doesn't need more appliques on it. Plus, if you leave the back plain you can either wear a gold beaded belt for a more structured nighclub look or a gold hipscarf (yes, get the wavy type because it will tie in with neckline design) and it will look more "glitzy folkloric". I would even go so far as to find a matching smaller hipscarf to wear on head with really big dangly gold earrings.
By doing "less" to this dress, you will wind up with "more" flexibililty. I think it is hard sometimes when putting on a costume to see the possbilities.

thanks
Nisima,
I agree on less is more for sure. Unfortunately - I lifted the straps 1.5 inches this morning and the dress is then above my ankle bone and looks too short but the top looked way better.
I will rephotograph and post on the swap pages. it's best for someone 5'3 or 5'4

Omigod - swap for sure! It's just not proportioned right for you - I have a short torso (I'm 5'5") my height is in legs and I run into the "too long armhole" once in a while too. Well, hope you get a nice swap out of it because it is pretty!

Stupid short torso, makes anything one piece so hard to fit. Sorry Dani, commiserating with you!
