Dahlal report
Just got back from Dahlal's open house. Whew, must've tried on a dozen costumes!
Couple of things I thought you'd want to know.
- The gold Pharonic costume with the ankh? She has three of those in stock with D cups, one might even fit a DD. The skirts are smallish on these, though -- I have 41" hips & couldn't quite safely zip them.
- The most gorgeous costume in the WHOLE store, IMO, is a sleeper on the website. It's called After Midnight on the website. It looks black, until you start to move and the blue sheen shows. Lots of rhinestone sparkle, and the MOST amazing shape to the skirt/cutouts (take a look at the back view on the site, it'll give you a clue). It fit me (I'm a D cup with 41" hips) but with muffintop. I would've had to add an extension to the bra band (I'm 33" underbust) and loosened the elastic, so it would definitely fit a smaller size even better. I'm 5'9" and the skirt is plenty long enough. I thought of Maria, or Tanya, right off the bat.
- The Eman 'in the pink' is also incredibly yummy for a tall dancer. And Hannan's 'coral gem' was a real contender for me, too, great fit.
- The 'vintage sari skirt' (under pakistini on the site) are REALLY nice in person. They're wrap skirts, and could be pressed into service IRL as well as with a costume.

Dammit, nobody announced the Open House in our classes, and I just got the Dahlal mailer in yesterday's mail and didn't get around to looking at it until today.

I gave them my e-mail address when I signed up to get the newsletter at y new address. Do I have to sign up for the mailing list separately? I seem to remeber having gotten e-mails from them like a year ago or so...

They've been through a couple of web-related disasters in the last year or so, and staffing changes. If you're not getting e-mails, I'd sign up again. It only takes a second on their website.

Oh, Tanya, trust me, you would not be disappointed.
I hope whoever buys After Midnight will post some pics so we can admire it, it's truly a work of art!

Oh, Tim had some lovelies with him while he was here...and I know he's bringing MORE when he comes back!
I tried on a boatload of them:
by Hanan: "Reverie", "Coral Gem", (neither of these were flattering colors on my skin, but VERY pretty cuts!)
By Eman: "In the pink" (not too crazy about the panel look in the skirt...but someone with legs in better shape than mine can pull it off no problem!)
Oriental Originals: "Lilac in Bloom"-WAY prettier in person then on the website...the skirt is very swooshy and it is a VERY flattering costume. Thought seriously about buying this one.
Rising Stars:"Duchess" tried this one in reddish color...OOOH I just love this! thought seriously about buying this one too. :) Little tight on top though.
Pharonics: "Simply Divine." Love the color, not crazy about the cut (on me)
"Egyptian Empress" in Coral (on last months inside the harem) THIS ONE IS MINE. I'm putting a down payment on it next week when they are in town. I can't pass it up...it is TOO pretty, and TOO comfortable, and Too flattering! It will be mine.
I can't imagine an actual open house...just having a few to look at is wonderful, but...I was at the warehouse just once, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. :)
:)

"Egyptian Empress" is my all time favorite costume. Ever. I will own it sometime in my lifetime. I just gotta hurry up and get my dancing to the point that I can justify buying it. Then I'd have to pick a color...crap.

Hi Lauren,
Was the costume featured in this flyer at the open house? It looks like Sahar.

I have a black and silver egyptian empress, and it is definitely a keeper.
I totally recommend getting one. I think it is a classic style that will never go out of style.....
flattering too on lots of body types.

YUMMMMMMM! I didn't open that flyer when it came, WOW, what a great costume!
I didn't see that one. I didn't see the Sahars, in fact, they may be in a back room, behind glass. Some of the costumes were out traveling to workshops, though, when I was there.

Not a Sahar!!
That's from the new collection that my "boi" Tim is working on...I think they're called "Diamond Line" or "Raw Diamonds" or something like that, I've seen 5 of them...soooo pretty(it pays to be the designers friend). I know Tim was thrilled that Samira was in going to be in town for the photo shoot.
Have any of you met her in person? This was my first time meeting her (Tim talks about her all the time) she is so pretty, and funny (I don't remember what we talked about, I just remember laughing the whole time).

So, wait...that's Tim's original design? Wow! Fabulous.
Hey, Saphy, if you get a chance, would you pass Tim a link to the 'Shoes' thread?

I thought he'd get a kick out of it, but I've lost his e-mail address.

OK, thanks. Not important, of course, just thought it would give him a chuckle.
p.s. Saphy, can't help wondering if I should know you, since you're local? I get confused between names, stage names and Bhuz handles, and I never know if it's bad manners to ask who someone is online.... but it seems even worse manners not to ask. netiquette!

I was at the open house, I don't think we have ever met. I have long wavy red hair, and was wearing a bright yellow tank top. (I'll try and figure out how to post a picture) Real name is Susan Blue...nick name since junior high is Saphire(and now my dance name)...and someday I'll actually use it, maybe even on a stage. I don't have a lot of experience, but a huge love of costumes (I have several of my Mom's). My older sister Rachel used to perform with Tim in Vegas (back when he was singing, and designing on the side...he made my 1st prom dress)
When I moved here from Nevada, we reconnected...he is somewhere between friend and Uncle.
