wearing a coin scarf on your head?

Hey, I've seen some pictures of dancers in folkloric outfits wearing what is obviously a coined hip scarf as a head scarf. The coins come down over the forehead and the hair is pretty much covered. I think this looks pretty cool, but I can't figure out how they tied them so as to keep them on.

Can anyone give me some tips or point me towards some online diagrams? Thanks much.

Put the point of the triangle to the back of your head, cross the ties at the nape of your neck and then tie together at the top of your head. Tuck the ends in and arrange coins over your forehead. Thats how I do it.

Works bes with simple triangle with one row of coins along the edges only.

You have to tie/wrap it pretty tightly though, otherwise it slips off.

I just got a visual of using a long fringe scarf - LOL! Not very safe.

The one I was wearing in my photoshoot was a thin one from king of the nile - its already headband width so a lot easier!!

Like really long bangs! You'd look like a sheepdog!

Hmm, my problem may be that the scarf is too darn long. I'll have to rustle up a smaller one. Thanks!

I had one of my choreography groups wear hip scarves like that for a tribal-esque number. The way I tied mine (long, rectangular, fairly wide) was to start by poney-tailing my hair and clipping it to the top of my head. Then, I would flip my head over and center the scarf (coins out) against the back of my head, just hitting the edge of the nape of my neck; after that, I would wrap the fabric tightly around my head (looks like an inverted V on your forehead) and then tie it tightly in the back. If you make sure to pull tightly around the edges, it shouldn't slip, but I know some of the girls used bobby or safety pins for extra security.

A long time ago I had some coursely-woven raw silk scraps laying around, that had been dyed a golden brown color (somewhat the color of my hair). I sewed some together so that it made a small scarf with a little bit of curve in it to fit snuggly over my head. Kinda like a skull cap with ties that were just long enough to tie at the base of my neck.

This makes the best base evah for tying all kinds of slippery stuff to your head like chiffon coin scarves. It grips my hair (which is baby fine and sippery) and it grips slippery fabric.

You could probably get a similar effect with a cotton bandana or some other grippy fabric.

also good for preventing slippage are wig caps...they're usually made of a thicker weave fishnet-type netting, and go on sort of like a tight-fitting showercap with elastic
