spring detox

Is anyone here doing any kind of detox for spring? I have been wanting to do something, either a fast or herbal detox but I have never done anything of the sort & am looking for guidance/suggestions. I have given up pretty much all my vices , although I started drinking coffee again & I guess that will have to go if I truly want to cleanse my system. Any thoughts? suggestions? success stories?

I did the Ultrametabolism detox in Feb. It's based on the book by Dr Mark Hyman. The detox is 3 weeks of alcohol, caffeine, gluten, dairy, sugar free eating. It's designed to balance your body and identify any food allergies or intolerances. I'm still in the phase 2 portion which is mostly a maintenance plan. I've added back dairy and wine on weekends but I'm sticking with the gluten-free because my body works better that way.

It's basically just natural whole foods and healthy living.

The only detox I'm doing is quiting smoking... and I have been successful at that. I think I will need more time before i take on another detox program...

last year

Last year I did a juice fast - bought a book on juice fasting, but honestly, I simply ended up buying Naked Juices and Robeks - much easier. I did it for 3 days when I gave up coffee and I really liked it. I felt worlds better after the caffeine withdrawal ended.

I'll probably give up coffee again at some point, but only with decaf - won't put myself through cold turkey again.

I've been thinking of doing a mild detox soon. Nothing severe, just mild bland foods and herbal detox tea.

That's the best thing you can do for your body! I joke that I used up all my willpower when I quit smoking six years ago, so I don't have the willpower to diet anymore ~ LOL!

me too

i've been meaning to do one. theres a place in chicago- cousins- that's raw vegan. i was going to do theirs but i wanted to wait until the weather broke. it snowed yesterday and it's gonna snow again tonight. i want to temp to be over 50 for at least 5 days before i put my body thru too much. i became a vegan last summer and did a juice fast on my own before that for 3 days. now i want to do a good one and finally quit cheating with sweets and breads- i'll often eat things with egg and milk and butter baked in. i want something to jump start that change.

Love the Master Cleanse

Personally, I like the master cleanse. All you need are raw lemons and grade B maple syrup. I do 2 cleanses a year for 7 days and it really helps keep me on track

The first time you cleanse/detox is hardest by day 3. That is when you want to go insane. If you can make it past day 3 you are o.k.

Good luck!!

Jade:

I'm curious -- aren't you just DYING of hunger if you go 7 days w/o solid food?

Lucy,

The first time I did it a few years ago, I went nuts by day 3 - and that is where it ended. ***laughing***

The second time I did it, I was less nuttier and had more energy than I imagined. By day 4 I practically leaped out of bed in the morning (I'm NOT a morning person) because I had sooo much energy.

The key is to keep yourself hydrated. I'm not saying it was a cake walk, but it does make you more aware of your body and a flatter tummy.

Hope that helps!!

-Jade

Thanks, Jade. I've been tempted by master cleanse before, but I just can't imagine the whole no solid food thing -- not to mention the no caffeine thing. Yikes!

Has anyone used aloe vera juice as part of a detox? What was your experience?
