I am SO proud...and grateful!
I am just in awe of you wonderful women who have so GENEROUSLY posted your measurements!
I think we must ALL wonder...how much difference or similarity there is between us and our 'ideal'...like you all...I gawk at Bahaia's beauty (like her, I'm a 'retro' glam gal!) and oogle Aziza (such strength and beauty in one perfect package).
For me...the ideal body is well proportioned. I am tickled to death to see that my proportions are also the same (though larger numbers!) as those women I admire!
I'm thrilled to have an hourglass shape and am determined not to let all my sand run to the bottom!

In the green photo, I was about 10 lbs lighter but also solid muscle. I weighed 125. My body fat was 23%. My measurements overall were down about 3". I would have been about a size 8. I have not been any smaller than that since I was in my early-20's.
Sumaya, From the sound of your workouts, you really should be seeing some results even without dieting. By dieting, I mean reducing caloric intake to under 1700/day. Are you using a heart rate monitor for your cardio? You should. Only weigh yourself once a month at the same time of the month & same time of day. Take your measurements and get your body fat calculated no more than once/month. You may also want to look into a personal trainer - even if only for a few sessions. I worked out with a personal trainer once/week ($40). Sounds expensive, but I offset that by not eating out at lunch. He would push me harder than I push myself and keep me interested and keep me laughing. And it gave me an obligation... he's charge me if I no-showed. I think I'll be heading back to him again pretty soon.

Ive been doing 60 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training 5 days a week with no dieting for 5 weeks with no results, and am at 147lbs (I gained 1lb sine yesterday ). So now Im gonna diet, maybe just to kick start some weight loss. Id like to have lost *some* freaken weight (ah to be at 140!) before the Aug 25th competition.
B- what are your proportions/size in the green photo? I think it's be good to know where I want to head. Id like to go back to my "fat" days of 120lbs. What was I thinking?

Bahaia, I guess I'm more toned overall. If I had my body fat measured, I think it would definitly have lowered. The cottage cheese in my legs has lessened. My stomach might seem tad smaller, I think that stuff is moving around. I think my butt actually got bigger, so maybe thats where it went!
But dammit if I dont want that scale moving or having my jeans fit looser!
I think Ill go get the battery in polar heart rate changed so it actually works. Maybe then I can see whats going on, really.

Samia Gamal has a smashing belly dancer's figure:

Obviously I prefer the softer, rounder body type, probably because I've got one myself

I love the healthy rounder look and even then, let's be serious, Bahaia and Aziza are tiny. It's not like we're talking "ROUND"...I'd pretty much die for anyone's well-proportioned figure that can sustain a size 6 without working at it. HAH

Hey Dani - I just saw Ava quite recently and she was not thin at all (I mean very nice but not thin) not nearly as thin as in that picture - looked like plenty of bounce for the ounce, I'd be happy with a body like that

I don't think I'd ever have a body like Ava, you need to be naturally thin!
I'm naturally round!

Just want to put it into perspective...
I feel a lot better about my body when I am taking care of myself. I don't like to compare myself to an ideal from a photo that might not be absolutely true. Be proud of the hard work you've put in. Self confidence is sexy!

My partner has spent about a year trying to convince me that you and I are built similarly. I'm gonna have to go apologize, since I thought he was just being very nice to me. You've confirmed that yes, indeed, he isn't as blind as I thought he was! We've got the same measurements! except you have much nicer legs than I do! I love your legs!

I second that! What a lovely gesture. You both could easily have let us think you're 115 pounds and a size 4, but you set us straight. That's the kind of thing that really helps us all be more realistic about our bodies and our goals.

Last time I saw you in the flesh was dance camp year before last and you seemed so trim to me, but then I've been chubbed out beyond all belief so everyone seemed small by comparison, I suppose!

I'd love to have Jillina's, Sonya's or Ansuya's figures. I mostly need to work on reducing my middle & toning & strengthening my legs & arms. I'm not sure how any of them compare to me in height, but I'm betting they're all teeny too.
|
I'm 5'11", so I'm a bit of a giant compared to all you petite ladies!
I love those curvy retro figured ladies, but that's just nowhere near my body type.
Realistically I'm much more of a Rania build -when fit -and when unfit/heavier I look like a saggy pear. The more weight I carry the less curves I have .
I definitely fit in the long legs camp though!

I'm 5 feet tall. I'm short - but not really tiny and definitely not delicate.
What I've got working for me is proportion..... currently extra juicy at 39-29-39. I wear size 10 in petites
To maintain the look in the green costume photos from my Bhuz ad requires 30-45 min of cardio at my target heart rate 5x week, plus 2x wk lifting good 'ol fashioned weights. Keep in mind that I love to drink beer and I typically eat well but do not diet.
Aziza and I have very similar upper body, height, and toso/leg proportion but she's a little slimmer through the hips and booty in general. Nice to know, huh?

We could share clothes, darling. I like to drink, too. I feel like the way you describe yourself is the way I describe myself. Small, but I can kick some a**.

Thanks so much for sharing this Bahaia. :)
Now we all know you're hot AND very sweet.
What you describe is honestly very close to that the American Heart Association, fitness organizations, medical organizations (and other health related groups) recommend for maintaining health and fitness.
(well, not so much the drinking beer part, but I'm SO not pointing the finger...or if I am, it's not at you, it's at yet another glass of champagne and maybe something chocolate)
... When I exercise regularly I FEEL better- and that feeling is what keeps me coming back for more. The "fitting into my jeans" is the icing on the cake, not the whole cake.

Oh, oh, oh, and I completely forgot.
Women used to wear girdles almost ALL the time. When worn tight enough and for a long enough period of time they were effectively doing somewhat gentle "waist training", like people do with corsets. Some women were born with that hourglass figure. More women back then seemed to have those proportions because their "everyday" attire included a girdle.

That's exactly what I was going to say. If you look at pictures of women in bathing suits from the 50's and 60's, you'll see that most of them have a very marked waist. It's largely because of the tight girdles that were part of every woman's daily wear. After a while, the waist began to take on that cinched look, even without the girdle on.
Regards
Priscilla
