Those women were TINY. Darcel is the curviest at 5'5" 115 lbs. (if they're telling the truth).

I think John Lennon rolled over in his grave while I watched that.

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered that when I was 18, I was 5'5" and weighed 118 lbs. I looked normal then, but if I dieted to 118 lbs now, I am quite sure I would look anorexic. I need at least 10 more lbs. than that to look healthy. I wonder why that is...

When I was 17, I was 5'9" and weighed 117 pounds. In my 20's I weighed around 130, and in my 30's I weighed around 140. That looked great on me then, but I'm not sure it would work for me now. Yeah, I wonder why that is?

I'd love to have Jillina's, Sonya's or Ansuya's figures. I mostly need to work on reducing my middle & toning & strengthening my legs & arms. I'm not sure how any of them compare to me in height, but I'm betting they're all teeny too.

I feel ya, sista...I am 5ft 10in! It can be challenging finding costumes that fit and finding "moves" that work well with my tall, slender frame. However, I do love my height...love being tall and athletic.
Speaking of tall and slender...who are the other dancers out there with a similar build? Bozenka looks tall?

Bozenka is about 5'7", very slender ribcage, prolly about 28 inches around, and about 37 inch upper, 40ish lower hips

I think Bozenka is about 5'10- she's a few inches taller than me and I'm 5'5-- 34-26-39. I usually weigh around 135, sometimes it creeps up to 139. But, yeah, when I was 18 I was this height and 115 and ate whatever I wanted and thought that was perfect. Now my 18 year old daughter is 5'3 and 120-125 which is perfect for her. I'd like to lose about seven-ten pounds of fat and gain 5 pounds of muscle, but to do that I'd probably have to dance hard at least two hours a day. I don't diet but I 'try' to balance out if I've eaten a lot of junk one day I try to be 'good' the next day, but that does not mean by starving!! Just eating smaller amounts and skipping the sweets till I level back out. On the other hand, I can polish off some Eggs Benedict with grits in about 5 minutes (today's breakfast, yum!). I do love my food. It's funny because when I used to take classes with Aireen she would say 'tuck your butt' and I would say "it IS tucked- it just sticks out like that, see!" :o)

The butt story!
I have a butt, and when I demonstrate proper posture to my students, I remind them that I am tucked, it's just my boo-tay that is round and sticks out!
That always get's a laugh.

Oh, Kina, I wasn't disagreeing with you- we simul-posted about Bozenka's height-- I could be wrong, and she does sometimes dance in shoes, but I've been around her when we're both barefoot and I'm pretty sure she is more than two inches taller than me. Then again I am often off about heights, I always think everyones the same size as me unless there is a substantial difference. Maybe it's just good posture that makes her look taller...

Ha ha, Maria, I do that too "Okay kids, now tuck in so your back is straight-- see, like this--oh, don't pay any attention to that big curve, that's just my Cuban butt- can't tuck it in any further unless I'm gonna walk with my pelvis five inches in front of my stomach!). It actually seems like it sticks out more when I am tucked?!
(BTW I am part Cuban, that's why I refer to my butt that way-- not to say no one else has that shape, or that all Cuban's do! But this one does :o) )

That's ok, youmay know her better than I, I've only been close to her once! I'm 5'4" - 5'5" on a good day, she;'s taller than I, by about 3 - 4 inches. i wouldn't presume to guess her weight, just my observation about her measurements :-)

Tamra-henna California is about 5'8" or 5'9" and very willowy. As I recally Andreana from Illinois is tall and slender. For the most part, I think most "famous" dancers are pretty petite - in the 5'4" range or less.

I'm voting for 5'7"-8" for Bozenka (I'm 5'1")--never mind the post-workshop pixie-standing-on-end hair!
In the interest of disclosure (and for scale, LOL) I'm 135lbs, 34B bra, 26" waist, 31" high hip, 37" full hip

My theory ... your a dancer and your body distribution has changed both in terms of muscle fat ratio but also where the muscle and fat is. Also, as we get older our skin thins and the mature muscularity shows up differently. Some of the is hormonal and a huge part (most, I think) is still tht your a dancer.
I was 5.3 and 105 and felt great and looked normal, if thin, now it's 5.5 and 125, I'd like 115 again but I can't imagine lower than that, might even decide I like my 125 better. I am small framed so the weight are more than they seem.

I see a nutritionist and she says that women put on muscle as they get older - that's why we get heavier.
If I was to diet down to my 21 year old weight I'd have to lose a load of muscle and I need that stuff to dance!!

I don't have any links to prove it to you but maybe if you asked a regular physician, any physican, or nurse, they would tell you that is absolutely wrong.
You loose muscle as you get older and have to fight like crazy to maintain it at all. People who already have some muscle atrophy can make muscle gains to maintain their mobility even when they are very old but most of us who are fit and active will be very fortunate to hold onto what we have if we continue activity but actual resistance training can be a muscle saver.
The usual progression is loose muscle gain fat.

That's really interesting.
I was already a dancer in my teens, so I don't think the "you're a dancer" explanation someone else mentioned would explain the phenomenon. Maybe we lose muscle as we get into middle age and beyond, but perhaps from the teens to the thirties muscle is gained, or tends to be heavier.
All I know is that at age 18 I weighed 118, and at age 28, at 128, but my measurements were still virtually the same, and I still wore the same sizes.
