Lauren, I totally know what you mean. I can be right on track with calories, nutrients, carbs, etc. through dinner, then blow the whole day with nighttime snacking. I get really really strong carb cravings around 9 or 10. Strangely, its not my hypoglycemic sugar shakes, mental fog kind of carb craving that I get during the day for not eating right, its more of a "I'll tear through a brick wall with my fingernails to get to the Captain Crunch" kind of craving. It really doesn't matter whether I have had a carby dinner or a protein/veggie dinner.
Goddamnit I want my 9pm PB&J's! I have PB&J issues. My mother tells me there was a period of time when I was 5 in which that's all I would eat, 3 times a day, for days on end. It must have chemically imprinted on my brain or something.

Sedonia, YESSS!!
So far the only way I've had any success dealing with those cravings is to just put my head down and push through them like I used to do with cigarette cravings.
Pace around the house, find myself staring into the fridge, tell myself NO, go brush my teeth, pace around the house, find myself staring into the cabinet, tell myself NO, go take a shower...
I don't keep any junk in the house (family be damned, there's junk at the quick shop!), but I'll go back over and over for a sugar free fudgesicle, a fat free turkey sandwich, 2 tablespoons of hummus and baby carrots, etc. Not keeping junk in the house doesn't help, I just CAN'T stop once I start.
The only solution is to eat my small protein & fiber meal and then NOTHING, no matter what excuses my crazed brain comes up with.

I'm not being helpful on this for the true night feeders but - drink tea. buy some really exceptional tea and start making yourself drink that instead of eating. It took me awhile to accept that as a substitute snack but I did it and then I weaned myself off that.
I thought I was going to turn into a strawberry there for awhile too - I ate my weight in fresh berries for the first month or two when I was still getting hungry.
Lauren, I know you know what to do - but, you might consider checking out volumetrics - might be worth trying as an eating plan for awhile to see if it will fill you up.

A candid moment during my recent photo shoot. At least I can laugh at myself. I'm printing this off and posting it on my refrigerator. As though it doesn't speak enough for itself, I know the whole truth is even worse (my bra is rigged closed with giant plastic clips in the back because the hooks that fit me in Jan lack 2 inches meeting). I will not alter it bigger. This great loop doesn't see the light of day again until it fits me at its current settings.

I'm feeling pretty happy because I lost half a kilo (a pound) this week. Yay! I just have to keep on top of the after work/before dinner snacking, and keep up the morning walks with the dog! (just...)

Sedonia,
You look adorable and I have to say - the Great Loop is a most flattering costume. It's still my favorite bedlah of them all, I think.

Yeah I find green tea or camomile or similar is good when you have 'not really in NEED of food but feeling snacky' kind of feeling. The warmth of the water feels soothing to your hungry tummy, more soothing than just water or cold drinks, and the bulk of the liquid kind of fills your tummy a bit and makes it feel better. Hot water alone would probably do it but tea feels lewss like you a tricking yourself! Well it works for me, plus green/herbal tea has good things in it too.
Me and my BF are still annoyed that the local supermarket stopped making this awesome apple and mint tea.

Mint tea is my favorite tummy soother. It's oddly satisfying.
I also found this tea that is chocolate mint and it smells like dessert - it is so delicious. It's a little pricey but I use it as a treat - it's called Slim Mint by SerendipiTea, which has several chocolate infused teas. super yum when you lift the teapot lid and smell it steeping.

congrats!
Just remember - stay on track - don't let the progress be a little worm in your brain saying, "oh, I can have that extra mocha now" -
this is my own kind of self-sabotage and I don't even know I'm doing it til I'm looking at the bottom of a venti latte cup or tossing a one-to-many skinny cow wrapper in the trash.
I'm being a tough task master to motivate you! :)

Why, I think you need to reward yourself with a lime silk veil, my dear! Its hardly a drop in the bucket compared to the couch money you just blew -- oops I mean wisely invested into your dance business.
Anyway, I think a new costume, a new veil, and one of those stretch-to-fit slip covers (to put on your old couch) is still probably less expensive than a new couch. So see, you are actually saving money.
belly dancer logic!

I dunno, still having yo-yo moments at the scale. It's so frustrating, I just want it to go down, but stupid scale doesn't want to cooperate.
I still have no idea what I currently weigh as i had food poisening and my stomach is a mess. I've only been able to keep down popsicles, but today marks real food day. we'll see.

shop shop shop
Hi everyone,
Well, you guys buy costumes and I buy regular clothes! This weekend I decided to get a few new things - unfortunately, I didn't have much luck. I tried on some cute new suits at Banana Republic, but they didn't fit properly so forget it. I did find a really cute dress and pair of shoes. The dress is sized S - L, and I was able to buy a Medium (yay, no more large!!). It's kind of a faux Roland Mouret, a British designer I really love for his ultra-feminine cuts.
Before getting too excited however - here's how it looks on the model:
Then, here's how it looks on me. I still have a ways to go...sigh...but it's not horrible! Of course it fits her higher on the torso and looser through the hip, but that's a model figure for you.

'member that her elbows are pulled up high, that raises the entire dress up. It looks great on you :-)

Oh true, that. Maybe I can just stand around my office leaning up against my cubicle with my elbows on the wall instead of sitting in it typing all day.
It's pretty flattering IRL, or you know I wouldn't be buyin' it. I'm going to wear it this week to the John Edwards Grassroots Cocktail Party and then out with friends for dinner. Gotta look smashing in case he is the next president and I have a souvenir photo! My dress must look as good as his hair.

recipes
In addition to clothes shopping, I bought the Jenny Craig cookbook today. Wanted to share a couple with you all -
Let's start with dessert!
Ruby Red Poached Pears with Raspberry Sauce
6 firm Bartlett Pears with stems
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Quart cranberry-apple juice
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
3 whole cloves
1 3-inch long cinnamon stick
1 1/2 cups unsweetenend frozen raspberries
1/2 tsp. orange liqueur or 1 Tbl. orange juice
6 fresh mint sprigs
1. carefully peel pears, leaving the stems intact
2. place the juices, cloves, cinnamon in a 4-5 quart pot. Lay the pears in the pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer the pears, covered, 1 hour.
3. remove the pot from the heat and uncover, and cool the pears in teh liquid. cover the pot and refrigerate the pears in the liquid overnight.
4. puree the raspberries, sugar, and liqueur in a food processor or blender. set aside the rasp. sauce.
5. Remove the pears from the liquid. cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear.
6. spoon some of the raspberry sauce on a serving platter and 1 tablespoon on each of 6 dessert plates. Stand the pears on the platter or plates and drizzle with 1 tblsp. of the sauce on each pear. garnish with the mint. pass any remaining sauce in a small pitcher.
Yield: 6 servings of 1 pear with about 2 Tablespoons of sauce each.
