No question my body can't handle an overdo of exercise - although it's been awhile since I put it through that.

Of course, it's not much liking the reverse of that either. I haven't been going to dance class regularly or anything other than walking the dog, and I'm having lots of leg/knee issues. I have them anyway, but they've been worse now without exercise.

Now, it could be that I bought a new pair or 3.5" heels and have been wearing them to work even though my brain says "don't do it!"

I am officially up by 1.5 pounds today. My week or so of being snackish has hit! Time to focus.

Took a big step this morning to sign up for a weight control program offered through my HMO. I have about given up trying to do this myself and I need some extra structure and help. My doctor says if this doesn't help he is sending me to an endocrinologist for a workup. Based on what I am eating and my exercise levels should be losing and not gaining. And no, I am not just gaining muscle. I've regularly lifted weights for about 15 years. There is plenty of muscle under the fat, it just the fat keeps getting bigger and bigger. And my blood sugar is up and my cholesterol is up. Can you tell I am totally frustrated?

One older woman I know who does a lit of Yoga told me that she noticed that she had put on several pounds. She was alittle astonished as she does a lot of yoga, walking etc. She switched about half her yoga classes to a different style and ended up dropping the extra weight very easily.

Sometimes it isn't the amount of exercise, but the type.

Oh, and I am back down to 169.6. Not bad considering I am also massively PMSing. . .

Woo hoo my first proper weight loss. I've been down 2 pounds for four days running

In fact today the scales showed a 3 pound loss but seeing the weekend's coming up I'm not going to tempt fate and record that.....

So, I'm going to try and show my updated ticker. Here goes

Ooooo it worked

All this excitement, I'm going to go and have a little lie down now.

I'm back over 170. I'm still at 171.8. I can't play tennis this week b/c it was sooooooooo hot outside. Looking forward to Monday. Hopefully, I be able to play all week.

Well, my sister has a theory that there is only a certain amount of body fat in the world and that it just gets distributed around different people at different times.

I'm really grateful to her at the moment because she's putting on weight - I'll ask her to eat a bit more for you

Hah! well, she's safe. I am back down after my couple of days of binging. I figured it wouldn't stick around. For me, binging these days is having an extra glass of wine or a piece of bread. Hardly what it used to be - a pint of ice cream (I won't buy that stuff anymore!) or a piece of cake or some such.

Now I'll have to be meticulous on the diet for the new costume I bought. Don't ask me why I bought a costume. I'm not dancing. I'm just now feeling like I might go back to classes after essentially taking the summer off.

It was in the swap and then removed when I bought it. I'll see if I can get teh picture back. But, it's like that gorgeous white bolero one on Hannan in the clip I posted that I've been coveting for months. Except this one is red.

Hannan's has a nicer skirt though - I may have to make one:

Dani-that costume is ravishing. We want a picture of you in it!

Sunshine-I think 5 pounds is a reasonable goal. If you get 7, consider it icing on the cake. Err...uh...fat free dressing on the carrott.

I'm down 1 pound this week. Yay. People are FINALLY starting to notice. I'm down 25 pounds since April. I word pants yesterday that are too big. They used to be too small to wear. Now I'm going to have to put them in storage. ...does happy dance...

I'm thinking that when I have gotten snacky, I haven't eaten burgers, fries or donuts. Those used to be my main stress snacks. This week when I binged it was with bbq chicken and corn bread or a big Greek combo platter. Not nearly as bad. I'm also getting better at recovery. I try to have a ton of vegetables in my next meal to get back on track.

What do you all do to get back on track?

Beth,

Congrats on the smaller clothes - that is just one of the best feelings!

To get back on track: luckily, I haven't been deviating too horribly, but to snap myself back - I load up on berries and fat free yogurt & veggies.

My worst problem right now is the social invitation thing. I am not committing to anything from now until December! no more. just say no! no going out. bah humbug.

Getting back on track is all about a big trip to the store to stock up on the things I can reach for safely when I'm hungry or nibbly.

And for at least one week, just saying NO to any kind of eating out, unless I can get by with soup and water, or go someplace like Applebees that has a menu where I can actually look at calories and stay on target.

Oh, and of course, must get rid of any junk foods that have snuck into the house during a little diet break. I'd love to say I do this by throwing away the junk foods...

What the ...?

Just what is going on here???? Last week the scales showed me losing 2 pounds for four days in a row (in fact two of those days showed 3 pounds) Now, weekends are haaard for me but this weekend I was very careful - kept to the diet on Friday and Sunday with only the addition of one small glass of wine on each day. Saturday I was invited to a dinner party so I eased up then but didn't go overboard.

Sooo, I get back on the scales today expecting a pound increase at most and it says I've put on three pounds!!! I'm actually a pound heavier than when I started!

I know it's probably water weight or something but how come when I was so sensible?? It just makes me want to say 'what the hell' and give up

I am mostly here for curiousity

But actually I have asked myself if I should not loose some weight before going to the States for 3 weeks because I am practically guaranteed to put on some pounds there! Every European going to the USA gets fat. It's just the way it is.

Funny little story: A slim friend of mine had been to India in Spring and well fed there. And she still has the 2 or 3 "extra" kilos. So I went to see here a few days ago and while walking up the stairs she said "Oh, my boobs got so big, they hurt when I go up stairs!" And when we got into her flat she lifted her t-shirt and screamed: "Look, they're ENORMOUS!" Showing me a pair of breasts that just about fill her A-size bra

Everything is relative!

Sunshine-don't give up. Load up on the vegetables. Seriously pile them on. That will help get you regulated. Um, I just re-read what I wrote...I didn't mean necessarily in the sense of your digestion. But hey, consider that a bonus. Keep consistent with them no matter what. Even if you have a food lapse. Eat veggies. They have been my saving grace.

Meissoun-I think it's our lifestyle that makes Europeans gain weight when they come here. Last time I went to France I had dessert after every dinner. I ate everything: the fattening, the salads, the bread and, of course, my veggies. My mom and I both lost weight. It was the walking that we're not used to. Talk about a great bonus.

Got another question for the group. How is your energy level? When I'm consistently losing, I find that I can be a bit fatigued. I still haven't gotten off my tail to exercise. That's probably contributing.

Well...I keep hoping that I'll get back on track when the stress lets up a bit.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

So, I had Bacardi and Coke Zero (no calories) last night. Does that count as sticking to my healthy eating program?!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Actually, I HAVE done something good--I've walked a lot the last 10 days or so.

Our wedding anniversary was 8/7 (14 years, kids!) and I had a delightful glass of wine (viognier), bruscetta, spinach gnocchi with proscuito (probably butchered that word), and tiramisu (shared it with the hubby). That was a calorie atomic bomb, but it was SO good that I didn't care and it was for a special day and I basically ate a bunch of fruit and and bowl of cereal beforehand, so I planned for it. I didn't eat all the gnocchi, I took 3/4 home...so I have learned a lot of good strategies.

Stress really makes it tough however. I hate that I let it take over my eating.
