Hi Dani
Obviously I don't know you except through these boards, and I may be speaking totally out of turn, but.....how about getting back to dancing?
It made me so terribly sad when you said you were fed up with BD and thinking of giving it up. Going to class is such a great stress reliever and so good for taking your mind off things.
Forgive me for speaking without knowing what's going on with your life, but it's just a thought....

I, too have had a stressful few weeks. My company has been acquired as of 10 days ago, lay offs have ocured, I have ben given my end date. So, food has been in the category of grab and go. I have had fast food a couple of times this week as well as the lunches brought in for staff trainings.
But, the good news is that, inspite of all that, I am down about 1/2 a lb. We'll see what some concentrated effort and clean eating over the next few weeks does. I seriously doubt that I'll make my goal of 160, but 165 is most likely doable.

Tahira I'm so sorry to hear your news. It must have been a terribly stressful time. And lots of uncertainty to come too.
But certainly my experience is that when people are made redundant, they so often end up going on to better jobs and say that being laid off was the best thing that happened to them.

I'm having trouble getting enough calories in me with enough protein while keeping fats at 30% or below. What is a gal to do? Any suggestions of high calorie, high protein, low fat, low sugar food?

high protein, but not calorie
Whey protein powder should help...
I don't know if they make unflavored versions.
Anwyn was (I think) using some when she was trying for the competition...maybe she would know?

I have soy protein, rice protein, and whey protein powders. Soy has the most calories per measurement and the least fat. I can't stand these things unless I mix with milk . So I think I am going to have to use my fruits for the day and make a high protein smoothy adding a little fat free plain yogurt to the protein powder fruit smoothy mix.

Egg white? Slimfast bars? Keep grilled chicken breast chopped up in the fridge and add a bit to salads and veggies?
Protein has 4 Calories per gram, so there isn't one source that's higher in Calories than another, unless it's also higher in fat (9 Calories/gram) or denser in carbs (like sugar).
I don't know if it'll work with your eating plan, but I do tremendously better at balancing my carbs & proteins when I switch to having an egg or two for breakfast instead of a cereal or bread-based breakfast. I like an egg/veggie combo, in the form of a frittata, or poached eggs on asparagus with a little bit of 97% fat-free ham. Yum.
Oh, the 97% fatfree deli meats are a great way to add a little protein & flavor to veggies, salads, etc. everything tastes better with ham!

anytime!
Sunshine,
You are so sweet. you can speak freely with me anytime, please know that.
I did in fact sign up for classes again starting in September at the community college where Tamra-henna will be teaching. I'm looking forward to that as it's 2 nights per week and I'll have the benefit of a wonderful teacher but material that will seem familiar despite my several months' hiatus.
Also, back to Flamenco class on the weekend starting in September as well.
I guess it's back to school time.
Another thing - I've noticed I must do dance class because my legs are getting very weak and cellulite ridden despite dieting. I grumble about the low benefits of bellydance, but it does help my legs! (seems odd since it should be helping my abdomen & hips!)

back to school
I think it's a "back to school" mindset for me. Fall means classes!
I'm also getting tired of sitting around doing nothing. I've got cooking class this evening - which I'm really looking forward to also!

Yesterday was 6 hours of hula workshop for belly dancers. Sort of a trial by fire introduction. I wore a pedometer just for kicks and checked it after the workshop. We had danced wll over 3 miles. And my legs sure felt it too!

Count me in for renewing my vows. I'm back from vacation, and its hard to say if Ive gained or not, since half the time I couldn't eat anything due to tooth pain and the other half I over indulged. I didn't work out at all (and it felt fabulous). Ill get on the scale tomorrow morning.
I just got back from Borders where I bought some lite and easy cook books, and spent the last 3 hours cooking low fat meals for the week (I go back to work, which is hard for me to control myself because I start to feel starved after 2.5 hours, and when I'm hungry I'm not always able to eat.
Plus we've decided to do 5 days of weight training in the morning and cardio after work on the days we don't have classes or other obligations. Its gonna be hard to do cardio, especially with the daylight hours waning since neither of us likes to do indoor cardio.

Jumping on the Bandwagon
I know its a little late, but I'm going to jump on the band wagon here.
Tomorrow will be my first day at bootcamp, and I'm really excited...well, so excited about having to wake-up at 5:30am but excited to be working my body. This isn't my first time doing bootcamp. I did it in September too. And I was recently looking at pics of myself shortly after my last round of bootcamp, and man did I look good! And I was the fittest that I have ever been But I've gained almost everything that I lost, and I'm not as fit as I'd like to be. So its time for round 2.
Anyways, I thought maybe if I keep up with this thread, I might stick to the diet portion of bootcamp better. Last time round, I could handle the fitness portion, but being a student, it was so hard to eat healthily when I spent more time in transit then at home. I just didn't have the motivation to make my lunches, etc. etc. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do all that this go round.
So...my goals:
I'm 5'4" and 145lbs today. I'd like to get down to 130. I know thats not realistic to do by the end of bootcamp, but maybe within the months following. If I can get to somewhere between 135-140 by the end of bootcamp, I'll be happy. I'll also be happy if I don't loose pounds, but loose inches instead. I'd much rather be heavy and firm than light and squishy.
Although a little bit of squish is always good
I guess thats all I need to say, right? Anywho... wish me luck!

It's never too late, Talula! This thread has become an ongoing support and inspiration kind of deal. (Although was there ever a winner picked for the original "competition"?)
I'm curious though... how long is bootcamp? That sounds like a lot of weightloss for anything that is less than a month long (your outside hope was a 10 lb. loss...) Which bootcamp is this?
Anyway... hope the thread is helpful! I have found it to be

Well, I got on the scales full of trepidation this morning (after putting on three pounds last weekend just with one dinner party) and I'm thrilled to bits because they still show the weight loss I had on Friday. Yippee!
At the moment I'm at 12 stone and I can't wait to go under that 12 stone marker for the first time in years!

winners
Lilla,
I think the winners of the competition were kind of all tied - me, Lauren, maybe Zafirah who didn't join in but then did start posting and maybe Damiena and Annwyn?
I dunno, I think whoever won wasn't too concentrated on the "prize." If anyone feels they deserve it and want it - please 'fess up. No one said much when we broached the subject on the last thread. I think Lauren and I were both around the 11-14 pound mark for loss or something. Can't remember now.

bizarre
So I threw caution to the wind and had my cooking class last night and ate some of everything we made. I lost weight! how's that? crazy.
But, here's what I did that in retrospect was the right thing:
> we made steamed mussels in white wine sauce - I ate 4 mussels;
> we made a light coq au vin - I removed the skin and ate the meat only on a small thigh (granted it was not white meat but it was a small piece);
> I had one big spoonful of salad;
> 2 glasses of wine which were poured in proper amounts - 2.5-3 fingers in a wine glass - not an obscene American pour to the top (obscene but yummy of course )
> i ate dessert with relish - a pot au chocolat - ate every bite of that!
So overall, I really didn't over consume. I tasted everything and enjoyed it and most importantly, it was really satisfying.
AND, dinner took 3 hours. no zap in microwave and inhale within 10 minutes start to finish.

Yay progress!!!
 Go, Ladies Go!
Dani, that sounds like a completely decadent and diet-smart meal. You are such an inspiration!
Sunshine, Woo-hoo!!! *rummages around for "another one bites the dust" to play when you break 12*
Talula, I'll be starting more weight work soon too, though nothing as awesome as boot camp (I'm jealous! )
Wheee! I bought size 10 pants last night! They are a little snug, but the 12's are a little loose. (ya, ok, so they're not straight denim (God bless spandex!!!), but it's working!) And OMG, my hubby is on the bandwagon too! He's cut his soda intake by more than half and cut out most of his coffee.
I'm so relieved he's taking better care of himself.
