Faux Eyelashes and Eyelash extensions

I've never really worn fake eyelashes before, so when my Sister-In-Law had a party in which all her friends dressed up in wigs and fake eyelashes - I got my first taste of what it was like to wear these things. The lashes she picked out for me where the kind that had feathers at the corner of the outer eyes. It was my first lesson in putting fake lashes on and I did it on the first try. I really liked them but at the end of the first (first of the two hours in wearing them) hour my Sister was asking if I was tired and she remarked that I looked like I was falling asleep. I replied that I was perfectly awake, it was the weight of the lashes that made me appear as if I was falling asleep. I took them off during the second hour.

So how do you "train" your eyes to handle fake lashes, do your eyes just develope muscular eye lids? Does anyone have eyelash extensions? How do the extensions differ from the "store bought" kind? Do the extensions feel more comfortable - more natural?

There are three things that I can think of that would have resulted in this effect:

First, perhaps your eyelid skin is prone to sagging under any kind of weight, in which case there is probably little you can do.
Second, the eyelashes you used are unusually heavy.
Third, perhaps you squidged the glue everywhere are glued bits of skin together that made you look tired.

I am a happy user of false eyelashes and have never had the problem you mention, I use Ruby and Millies

I've never had any problems with false eyelashes; I think Caroline said exactly what I was thinking. It's also possible that the lashes weren't glued on 100% and started falling off slightly. They're not really that heavy usually, so you don't need muscles to keep them up

My boss has lash extensions, I think - I never really asked her though. She came back from her holidays with more lashes.
They are only at the outer corner of the lid and rather long. She's had them for a few weeks, so apparently they stick well.

One of my students gets lash extensions. They look fabulous but do not work if you have to use eye-makeup remover on a regular basis.

At to the problem above- I think bellydancingcaroline said all the possibilities.
The ones with the feathers may indeed be heavier than regular ones.
Also, before applying you want to 1)trim them down to fit your eyelid and 2) flex and bend it- hold the two ends of the lash band in fingers of each hand, then kind of move your hands like you're playing with an itty bitty mini slinky. You're flexing the lash band in the direction that is is shaped- you're just creating more flexibility to it will work better with your eyelid shape.

I use MAC lashes and Duo glue.

If you are planning on wearing them on a regular basis for performance, you can start with 'natural' lashes and then move up. I am dancing at a Cabaret in a couple of weeks and plan on wearing lashed with rhinestones in them!

Thanks for your comments. The lashes I was wearing were indeed too heavy. I had no problem putting them on and there was no excess glue sticking my lids together and they were not slipping off. I just wondered if all lashes were that heavy. I guess I should invest in some store bought lashes to experiment with. I'm interested in getting lash extensions, I will try that route to see if it works for me.

try cutting the lashes to fit the length of your own lash line.
use little nail scissors to cut a few off the inner corner of the strip.
and always use waterproof duo glue for performances. i learned the hard way. it looked like a spider was crawling down my cheek!

my friend does eyelash extensions. if you have any questions about them you can read about them on her site http://eyelashextensions.ws/
it has lots of good information.

good luck. and make sure who ever does you extensions uses only sterile or disposable instruments, for your protection.
