Pelvic Pain.

Can anyone shine some light?
While I was pregnant (both times) I suffered badly with SPD (Symphasis Pubis Disfunction). After having baby 1 the pain went soon after, but after baby 2 (11 months ago) I'm still getting pain all around my pelvis. I have only started BD a couple months and the pain (I don't think) was as bad before I started dancing. Do you think BD isn't helping and making it worse? Or, do you think I should stay with it? I was thinking that I'm moving differently now I have started dancing and lets face it, the moves you do in BD aren't your average day to day moves. I thought maybe it's just going to take a while strenghtening everything up again after what I suffered with.
I love BD and don't want to give it up.

Hi,

Did you have a c section to deliver your babies? If so, I would go see your doctor, You may have an inginal hernia brewing. You should not have that type of pain 11 months after delivery. Check it out. Good luck

No didn't have a C sections with either of them. I guess I could go and see my doctor or a physo. Couldn't hurt could it? I'm just worried that BD has flared it up. I would be gutted if I couldn't do it anymore.

More likely BD has just brought it to the surface, meaning the fact that you're moving & using muscles in your lower abs is making you more aware of whatever-it-is. If it's a hernia-type situation, you could be aggravating it, I'd imagine.

Get it checked out, and in the meantime I'd take a break from dancing if it were me. Pain is always a signal from your body that something's wrong, and pain that's induced by an activity is your body's way of saying 'stop doing that!'

Hopefully it's something minor and you'll be back to dancing very soon. Keep us posted!

Thanks for advice ladies. I'll make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow, but I'm still going to go to classes, will just take it easy. Doctor will probably refer me to physio at the hospital. I was seeing one while I was pregnant, so will probably be same lady. Will let you know what happens.

hey, keep us posted. i've had trouble with this too... (for those who don't know, it's a really unfun pain in the cartilage "seam" at the center front of the pelvis). i remember bd helping me recover from pregnancy the first time, because strengthening the core muscles supports the pelvic area better. too soon to say, this time.

however - i was returning to dance after having been pregnant, rather than starting to dance. if you are new to this dance, i'd definitely consult a doctor, and also talk to your dance teacher to be sure you are in fact powering the moves from the right muscles, which i think would help, and with your weight distributed/moving correctly.

good luck. personally, i find it hard to believe you'd have to give up bd, even if you have to do some modifications to fit your personal bod, which lots of people do anyway!

Hey Ashadanzatrice, it is really painful isn't it? Are you still suffering with it then. I'm going to the doctor today so will let you know what she recommends.
