costumes - preventing sweat stains

So my whole life, I haven't been the kind of person who sweats a lot. I've never had a sweat stain on anything I own. So I never worried about getting sweat stains - figuring I was safe as long as I wear deodorant.

And then...

I have a long-sleeved costume and I've worn it for a couple of performances now and I've discovered, despite the care I've taken to air it out, the turquoise is turning greenish - kinda like a sweat stain. :-( I guess I do sweat after all. :-(

How could I have prevented this and now that I have it, is there any way to get it out? I could never resell it as long as there was a sweat stain on it - I"d be too embarassed.

Most obvious question, have you tried to rinse that part out? If I remember correctly, it's not heavily beaded there...

I have the opposite issue, I sweat buckets, standing still even, so I'm very hesitant to buy anything with sleeves

Don't know what you can do about the costume, but you might want to dry Secret's new "prescription strength" anti-perspirant. I think it is called Secret Clinical Strength. Not cheap, but it does work and doesn't rub off. I only use it for performances or rehearsals in costume.

I have one sleeved costume and I just make sure to liberally spray the underarm fabric with a vodka and water solution after wearing. I usually saturate it, just to make sure!

I am not sure if that will work on already set stains, but you can try it.

I don't wear costumes that don't have armpit holes cut out. I'm a pretty sweaty dancer too and I find that the armpit holes eliminate a lot of staining problems. Plus, helps to keep me a bit cooler! Yay for ventilation!

I know a lot of people like to wear these for the reasons you do, but I just have to say that I HATE the way the armpit looks when the dancer raises her arms. It distracts me, that skin color that contrasts with the fabric. It looks like the dancer's seam tore open and she didn't bother to repair it. I'd prefer to see sleeves that are completely detached and are held up by elastic around the upper arm.

Another option if you feel that your sweating is inordinate is to have botox. . .

I do love Secret. I read an unofficial study of deodorants that said that Secret Platinum was the best one of all the deodorants tested, and that the person said she put it on Monday and by Thursday, it was still going strong. She did talk about being at the gym and uncannily not sweating in her underarms, but of course everywhere else.

It does last forever - and their clear version doesn't get white stains on clothing. One has to wonder what kinds of chemicals are in (or I prefer not to!)
