All my trousers are too big (even the ones I swear fitted just fine before I put on all the weight) and I managed to wear a costume I haven't worn for about 2 years - still a bit of overspill but i think a little is inevitable if its tight enough to stay up and you have any body fat at all! I guess I should emphasise that this is loss since I started weighing myself in Feb/March time so a fairly sensible pace.
Sadly (well not sadly!) in a week's time I am off to Rome for 5 days and I suspect the pizza, pasta, pastries, wine and ice cream will take their toll!

Can I ask how you motivated yourself to do it?

Mish_Mish I got some advice for you on how to get motivated. What I did was I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and told myself I don't like what I see and I'm going to change it! I keeped saying that for about 10 mins *yes i really did do this* and I lost 40 pounds, I also would picture myself the way I want to be in my head and that kept me pushing to achieve what I want! I have gained some of the weight back from a depression I went through recently but i'm getting back on! You can do it mish_mish!

Um . . .good question really.
The rest of my life is extrememly gone to sh*t and very depressing (long term job/career stuff etc etc) so I guess at least this was one thing I was in control of, the gym sessions gave my life structure and let my mind switch off, and seeing the progress in the changes in my body at least gave me one positive aspect of my life to focus on. Also the shock of photos i got done in december and the reaction of my own mother to my weight gain, having always been a slim person and what i now realise was 20 pounds creeping on over the course of only a year a so.
But part of my sh*tty life is that I am temping in a very dull office job and NOTHING in my life has changed for (the better for) 6 months, so I have the time and flexible working hours to focus on this. I couldn't have done it if my life was non stop stress so don't be too hard on yourself!

work
Work stress - whether work drama or not loving your job - is so powerfully detrimental for eating habits. You have my sympathy.
(sidebar: Zafirah, you work in labs right? pharma? I don't suppose you have environmental sciences knowledge do you? if so, I could recommend a company to explore there in Edinburgh (offices around the UK and Europe.)

In the last year, I have changed jobs, started school, had some serious financial stress and many other positive, but serious changes.

I'm happy that my B-day is tomorrow but I'm not looking forward to school I like school and all but this year is going to be hard. We had 7 class periods last year and this year we got 9! There only 45 mins a piece but by the end of the day I'm physically and mentally out of it! They did it so we got more education during the day but there killing us here...we can only take soo much..were not super people . It is interferring with my diet plan..I'm trying my best to stay strong a dedicated to my goal.

Go Zafirah, WOW!!!
Dani, your new haircut is gorgeous, you look like a glamorous movie star.
Sunshine, I can totally relate. I lose all my willpower every time I hit an interim goal. Sometimes I think the body & mind just need a rest. But then, I'm still clawing my way back onto the wagon from my last 'rest' so don't listen to me!
I've now gained back 5 pounds from my lowest. And today I ate at least half a chocolate cake and had two big glasses of peach sangria and one of gewurztraminer

I ate gelato. Twice. The second time I put almonds on top.
And I had wine.
Did I mention I also got my period today?!

aw hell.
I had oysters for dinner, a greek salad, two glasses of wine and dried figs & cheese for dessert. The bad part of that was really the last - those dried figs were probably higher in calories than anything else.
Okay - I promise - pinky swear - tomorrow is the first day of my new commitment. I'm ready to embark on the last 15 pounds!!

Have you thought of writing down what specific aspects of the new schedule inerferres with your diet? It might help you figure out concrete steps for how to "stay strong" in the face of this change.

Hi everyone,
I was away for the weekend and am back. Ate pretty well considering.
Dani-you look just like Phoebe Cates! Love the hair.
I'm glad to have Adishakti, darkangel7631, zafirah, angelique2 and shira on the team now! Sounds like you ladies know what you're doing. It's the motivation where I think this group is really successful.
Hugs to all!
Beth

I was bad bad bad over the weekend. Saturday night got together with other dancers at a Mexican restaurant. I ate steak and chicken fajitas without the tortillas. But it was still a lot. Took the leftovers home and ate them last night. Yesterday was a dance workshop and I ate sensible breakfast and lunch, burned a lot of calories, and bought a milkshake sundae on the way home. My first craving for sweets in weeks! There went my calorie deficit from exercise!!! But it tasted great. Back on the wagon today!!!!!
Dani, new haircut looks super!

I don't really want to post all the pics here but . . .
In my gallery the picture in my gold eman pharonic is me at around my heaviest (december) - some time and excercise after this I started weighing myself and was 136lb in march, probably nearer 140lb in that picture. The one in the lillac eman I was around 122-23 (but flattering pic). The photoshoot in burgundy and red baladi dress I was around 120lb, so you can see although the numbers are low I am def. not wasting away or anything, I'm just small all over!! When I was 18 (9 years ago) I weighed 103-105 lb and looked perfectly healthy and not skinny just normal. I have more muscle (and boobs) now but that can't be the only explanation.
Dani - Sadly I know nothing about environmental science, I'm a molecular biologist (genes and cells). I left science after my PhD to wait for my bf to finish his and we moved in together. That move created both my weight gain and career problems. Science is not sympathetic to people that take a year out for such frivilous reasons. My bf and I are trying to get postdocs in the same city now . . its stress city. Thats all I'm going to say because even writing that gave me a knot in my stomach.

Diet coke and cinnamon
If you love cinnamon, sprinkle some on your diet coke. Takes away the after taste. Don't ask me how I came up with this. I apologize in advance to those who are ill at the thought.

Sunshine creeps in, looking around nervously. Realising there's been no-one here for a few days she sits down, relieved to have found somewhere to hide after innocently starting the Suhaila thread....
