Happy return to dieting everyone.
I had a sobering shopping experience. Sobering in that I want all new clothes but I'm still having to put my butt in 10s and even the occasional 12. egad.
I want those 8s to fit already.
I have been evil. evil, I tell you. I have started a renewed effort this past week and I'm staying at the prevacation weight but I'm not moving downward.
must try harder.

For the last year or so, I've done the thing where I ignore the clothes that start to feel too tight. They languish in the closet--both of us knowing the truth. I think,"Should I hold on to them, hoping to fit in them again, or give them away so I don't even have to think about it anymore?"

Only for the last year? LOL. That marks my entire existence!! If I didn't have that routine to go through, I don't know what I'd do
In fact, I remember back when I lost all the extra pounds - one of the things that struck me was how much time I had on my hands to think about other things without the pressure to diet or obsess over clothes. I could pull something out of the closet and it'd fit. Or, I didn't have to agonize over every little "cheat."

The weird thing for me is that I'm happier on Weight Watchers. Y'know how they say kids do better with boundaries, even though they complain about not being able to do whatever they want? I'm that way with Weight Watchers--even though it takes a little more thinking, it's a relief to be accountable for what I choose to eat and how I exercise (or not exercise).
I spend a lot less time berating myself for my choices and I feel good because I know I'm making good decisions. There's a lot less of the guilt/denial thing going on.

I'm new here, but the best thing that WW has is the portion control. It really works to do the eyeball comparisons of portions. They also have a great online program.

Back before Weight Watchers did an online program, I lost 55 pounds using their points-based program, and found that it worked well for me. I've never tried their online program - can you tell us a little more about it?

My boss is doing the online program and she has lost 9lbs so far. She seems to be into it, but I like the meetings. I think that I would lie about my weight or weigh myself a bunch of times and then not have an "official" weight to report.
I really have to have another person looking at the scale so I can't pretend.

The online program gives you a place to track your points. It's nice because you can type in what you ate (often with brand names) and very often it's right in the database with point values. You can also find recipes and restaurant point values in just a few clicks. It's like having a whole collection of weight watchers point finder books and cookbooks at your fingertips, plus an automatic point calculator.
And of course you track your weight & goals, and you can chart your progress.
The online tools can be used alone (there are message boards instead of meetings and articles to fill you in on the WW tips, tricks, motivational tactics, portion control ideas, etc) or you can get the tools in addition to your meeting membership. (for an extra fee, of course).
I really liked it. But now I'm using fitday plus dietfacts and it's very similar but free.

Oh gosh guys, I'm so proud of myself. I did really well the last couple of days (for me), apples, some green peppers, protein drinks, oatmeal cooked with raisins.
Hope to keep this up and keep reducing the huge portion of frozen yogurt desserts and candy.

Has anyone ever used herbalife? I have used it years ago, I think I may try to do that again.
I have also just started walking 5 miles a day (compared to the 2) I was doing. I have also been doing 2 belly dance instructional dvd's each day. Then when my husband comes home from work, at 9pm I will dance for about 30 mins just for fun, He even dances with me. lol Watching him dance kept's me going as well. I have lost one pound. Not much but It is better than nothing.
I am also wondering if my meds are causing the weight gain.

You probably did better than you think. I'm sure you were walking a fair bit to counteract the carbs. I was shocked at how well I did on vacation...

I've actually started doing my yoga also, I don't have a real close place to walk my dogs and I need to get out after work or I get lost in house stuff. The yoga has shown me what muscles I've ignored. I use the Bikram method. Walking in State parks around here works well. To see the WW program go to their web site, they go through a demo.

I need help.
I'm going through a painful divorce thing right now, and I feel very lost & sad. My body wants me to soothe it with lots of carbs & sweets & yummy cheeeeeeeese -- all the foods that boost seratonin & other happy body chemicals.
Besides hot bath and massage, what are some other NON-food ways to be good to yourself when you're stressed & hurting?

I get a manicure or pedicure, go to a spa,Let them pamper you.
So sorry to hear your going through a divorce.
I went through a horrible divorce about 4 years ago.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry! Here's sending you hugs, encouragement, and warm vibes...
Now, for stress relief methods...
Pleasant-smelling aromas - potpourri, candles, scents in your bath, incense...
Lie in a dark room with beautiful, soft background music. Or, instead of music, use sounds of nature such as thunderstorm or ocean waves.
Go for a walk in a wooded park.
Add a cat or dog to your life. Instead of a kitten or puppy which can be a high-energy little poltergeist, choose an older animal that loves to cuddle.

hang in
Lauren,
My own personal experience - limited though it may be - is that painful breakups require soothing but as soon as I'm on the other side, I do great with self-nuturing and care in the constructive way. My suspicion is that when you get through the rough bit - you are going to blossom into your healthy, "take care of me" space. It's coming. be kind to yourself during the transition.

Oh Lauren--I'm so sorry you're going through a divorce. (Did I miss a thread?) I know you are so bright and talented that you will get through it, but, man, what a sad thing. Hope you're doing okay.
This seems like a paltry suggestion compared to what you are dealing with right now, but trashy reading materials (People, true crime books, etc.) and playing solitaire or online games sometimes shuts down my brain a bit and helps me relax.
I also bought some really nice bath bombs at www.basin.com that make me feel really good and relaxed.
Hang in there, Lauren. Hugs!

Not paltry, escapism is just what I need and I hadn't thought of trashy reading!
I didn't do a thread because I didn't want to get way too personal in public... but maybe I should, I think it would help me to hear other people's experiences.
I'm kinda sorry I brought it up here, I hope I didn't shut down the diet talk!

I took advice from here, I now have a appointment with a nutritionist today. I canceled the appointment about the lap-band surgery. I will give this a try 1st.
I am really sore from walking so much. I think I feel it in my back as well. I hope that is a good thing and it will go away the more and more I walk.

I'm sorry to here about your divorce. Mine was awful and that was around 5 years ago. I'd never been so depressed. I had my dogs to help and my friends. Keep taking things day by day and keep dancing and walking. It really helps to have someone to talk to that just listens too. The pet thing can really be great, my 4 were just there for me like they always are. You have my support, its hard, but look at as an opportunity to grow, I know that I grew as a person during and after from things I learned about myself and others.
