Bathing Suit Season
You won't catch me wearing one this year, unless it's one of these:

I particularly like the woman over to the far left with the beads costume and her dog. The knee high stockings are pretty funny too.
Can you imagine?

....and they all look so thrilled to be there, don't they?
I've seriously been trying to find ways to cover up more these days, though, 'cos I don't like the thighs anymore. I even made myself a bermuda short bathing suit last year, but quickly changed it to short shorts because anything longer just looks frumpy and I want to be funky, not frumpy! I settled on keeping a mid-thigh length pareo on over the bathing suit.

I told my fiance that I would gladly wear any of those bathing suits on our honeymoon. :)

I like how you can have a matching parasol or cape, even!

the harlequin/jester one near the middle, front row, is actually rather daring (nice legs too)...
i am dreading bathing suit season this year. not that i ever love it. i'm gonna be the largest part of pregnant throughout the summer... lest you think that could look cute, pregnant largeness on me is more about the watery weight in my thighs and butt than the cute belly part. i'd just stay inside in the ac, but something about a soon-to-be-3-year-old who needs to learn to swim this year.... meh. oh well. my daughter is so gorgeous, no one needs to look at me anyway!

it's a wonder there weren't more drownings back in those days..I can imagine those types of suits were pretty heavy once they were wet..and restrictive
I'm all ready for bathing suit season not only because it's year round here, but I'm looking forward to having a big belly and not having to suck it in all the time.
I think us women worry more about our thighs and jiggles than others do..seriously when I first moved here I was really nervous about wearing a suit too, but then you get to the beach and realize the majority of us are not perfect. It's liberating to walk around in a suit..really...I had tiny spider veins after my first pregnancy, stretch marks, and cellulite was threatening..I wouldn't even wear short dresses when I lived on the mainland and had to wear harem pants under circle skirts.
But you get used to it or learn not to care. When you are out in the bright sunlight, a lot of cosmetic type things don't really show up..the spider veins are almost invisible and well..even our hot bodied volleyball girls at the beach who are incredibly thin and play volleyball in bathing suits have cellulite. Or stretch marks.
I guess my point is when you are at the beach, it may be tough to take it off at first but after a day you get used to it and it doesn't really matter anymore. I run around with cellulite, messy hair and sea boogers in my nose . I guarantee that if you go to a beach location, everyone is so used to seeing everyone else in suits ..no one seems to stare or tease or anything.
But yes coverups are awesome..I think the cutest ones are not the rayon flowery sarongs sold at the ABC stores, but the see-thru chiffon or polyester ones..you can see the outline of a suit and legs underneath but they are like harems and disguise some 'problems' ..they are cute and cheap.

I noticed that all the times I've been in Hawaii. I saw all shapes and sizes in suits and the water is so gorgeous that there was NO WAY I was going to stay out because of the way I looked. There were certainly attractive people on the beach, but there were mostly just regular folks.
I'm pretty sure those old fashioned suits were wool, too--can you imagine the wet wool smell? Ach du lieber Gott! Not hot!

Jes, you're a cruel & sadistic woman. We just received a foot of snow on Thursday & right now are in the middle of a storm which is predicted to dump another 8-14 inches. Oh how I'd love to be in front of that webcam right now!

our fold out couch is free you guys..anyone who showers can sleep on it if they want to visit..if you have kids we can stick them in a tent in the backyard :)
I'd love to start a wahine tribe where we can all let our armpit hair grow out and run around naked on the beach cracking open coconuts and dancing..we can fish and hunt for crabs and make seashell costumes

Does the ABC store still sell the cheap perfume called "Wicked Wahine"?

gosh, you ladies are always good for a giggle!! and jessenia, thanks for the pep talk to us all. (i'm due august 29... still currently being told i don't look pregnant. or, according to one brutal girlfriend, more like i look like i need to drop 10 pounds than that i'm almost 21 weeks - heheheheh!) anyway, i totally agree with you on sheer pareos. those are cool & i do think i'll get one. loss of stupid body image issues due to everyone running around in bathing suits sounds lovely to me, though alas, i'm on the endlessly cold and rainy (this year) east coast.... i won't be joining the armpit hair tribe, though! you girls have fun with that one! ha ha! (do save me some coconuts and seafood, though!)

Yes and don't forget the purse/hair rule. One of them has to be bigger than the @ss.

I don't think they make sunglasses that big, so I'm going to have to buy a new purse.
Even these aren't big enough.
