false eye lashes and eye lash glue.
hey
for our upcoming show i've asked my troupe to use false eye lashes.
any recomendations? i'm also specifically looking for eye lash glue you might recomend. i have a student with some allergy problems and she fears the regular stuff might not do her any good...
and for myself ;-) does anyone here have those funky kind with rhinestones. i think sharifwear has them? any recomendations?

I swear by Ruby and Millie ilash kit - often on ebay, sometimes in Boots (UK). On stage rhinestones on your eyelashes look like you have a mite infestation, they are only good (in my humble opinion) for close up, when folk can see the stones. The glue that comes with the kit is pretty good, if folk are sensitive get them to actually follow the instructions (apply a thin coat and then wait until a bit tacky before sticking on). Don't go for posh glue that beauty therapists use (it has a really strong smell), as you need glue dissolver to get the lashes off again.
Make sure NEVER to stick the lashes to your own lashes, or you will pull your own lashes out on removal. Instead go for the skin slightly above your natural lashes. Perhaps there is some hypo-allergenic glue out there.
Anything else just ask, I am the lash queen !

i buy eyelashes at the drug store and use DUO for the glue....you can get some really cool funky eyelashes around halloween time.
http://www.maccosmetics.com/template...CT_ID=PROD1452
Amazon.com: Duo Surgical Adhesive: Beauty
the links are for DUO...i LOVE that glue because it doesn't sting and i haven't been allergic to it..it does contain latex.
EDITED PART - i always snip off the ends a bit so they fit better on my lids because they all seem to be long on me...i only take off 3-4 little clumps of lashes.

I've heard from many sources that Duo (clear) is the best glue. Also, for those new to application, it helps to put a dollop of glue on your hand or some other clean surface and then run the lash line through the glue (I had always tried to apply it directly from the applicator to the lashes - didn't work so well for me). ;)

I wore mine when I went to the Haifa concert and now Im addicted. They look awesome and weirdly they arnt hard to put on!!
I just got a cheap pair at the shops. I think the brand is Andrea. I also bought two other brands but havent tried them yet. I also bought single groups of lashes and you just add them to the outer part of the lash line with the glue.
next Im going to get them done professionally at the salon. They last for weeks and they look great. My friend gets them done often.
Check youtube. It has a few tutorials. Thats were I got the idea in the first place.

Seconding (thirding?) Duo for glue.
As far as eyelashes I like one- or two-time-use ones I buy in the drug store.
Tacky and fabulous. :)
Edited to add: Duo is actually a surgical adhesive and is removable with water and soap. I find it very gentle for my eyes and natural lashes. BUT if one of your students' allergies is to latex, Duo would not be a good choice as it is latex based.

I got mine from eEyelash.com. They are made of human hair and also carry all kinds of lashes and the duo eyelash glue. IMO - they're cheap too!

yes, duo.
Glue: Duo clear, waterproof!
i have personally tested just about every eyelash adhesive on the market for work, because we apply falsies at the spa and needed to know what is best for the clients. [tearing through weddings, sweating on stage and such] Duo clear waterproof was by far the winner for our purposes...if no latex allergy.
just remember to peal them of sloooooowly or you can pull out your real lashes. bi-facil from lancome or mac makeup remover wipes are great for getting off the remaining gook.
lashes: if using strip lashes, i like the ones with the clear "invisi-band" because they are more flexible than the ones with the solid black connector strip so they fit a wide variety of eye shapes. and imo are much more comfortable to wear.
have fun! hope the show goes great.

For a couple of years now, I've been putting lashes on first, because about half the time it turned into a mess and I had to wash my face & start my makeup over entirely, sans lashes.
But recently I *got* that the adhesive has to go along the bottom of the strip edge, not just along the edge. So now I'm gluing them to my skin, but also just a teeny bit to the base of the lashes themselves. Now I can put them on more effectively and have more like an 80% success rate.

Broken record here, MAC's lashes and DUO glue, which MAC sells.
I am blessed with super long lashes naturally, so I normally don't wear them.
However, for flamenco, director says we MUST wear them on stage, so,
I'm getting ready for a few shows, and I've test worn mine, and love them.

Hi all,
I often look like a deranged drag queen when I try to put on fake lashes, but I'm practicing and it's getting a bit better. Could you please describe your eye makeup routine w/the fakes? Thanks!

Pictures please!
I think fake eyelashes only work on stage. period.
MAC has a really nice selection.
What also works, if you want to avoid the "deranged drag queen" look, is get the little pieces of eyelashes. MAC has 'em.
I do my entire makeup sans mascara, then run the eyelash line through the glue, then put on eye......
edited to add: The little pieces of eyelash look great on the outer edges of the eye, obviously! IT really opens up your eyes -

i use DUO adhesive as well. i was taught how to put them on by peopel at the mac counter. it doesn't always go smoothly but you have to be persistent. i get mine from walmart- they usually have a decent selection- whispies are my fav- just long enough with a touch of thickness. of course there are crazy ones as well. there will be LOADS there for halloween. i know sallys beauty supply carries the rhinestone ones year round.

I do all my make-up first except for mascara, then apply the lashes, and THEN apply mascara over both your real and fake lashes to blend (trick from our local make-up artist DeVilla).

Just for fun, you gotta check out the Makeup Forever lashes at Sephora. Scroll down to check out the ones with feathers, and the bicolored ones.

I apply all the eyemake up first, non mascara, then put the lashes on. I don't bother with the mascara, as it clots all over the lashes and shortens their shelf life. When removing I just pull them off, put them STRAIGHT back in the case, and proceed with the normal babywipe removal of drag queen makeup. Some delicate fakes work when not on stage, but not many manufacturers get it right. If it's really bright daylight, you could use "individual" fakes and put them in the outsider corners of your eyes only.

duo, black!..takes the place of eyeliner.back in the day, that was the ticket !
i worked with a dancer, ..nadia, ..sandy snow, in the very early 80's.she taught me to do make up in reverse for youth.in other words, when young, go for the lashes, go heavy, sometime after 40, i dumped the lashes.when i hit 50, i went a little lighter.
lashes are always a good thing on stage, especially if there is good lighting.

Duo is latex based?
hm.
I have a latex allergy, and it has never bothered me.
I agree with everyone, duo is the best. I usually use MAC eyelashes, but lately, I've been too broke, so I bought a couple pair of maybeline lashes. They held up nicely!
I also do all my make up, and then put the lashes on.
also, to avoid the 'drag queen' look, you have to trim the lashes to fit your eyes...some of these lashes are made for people with really big eyes, and they just look funny with extra lashes hanging off.
I never perform without them anymore though. I love them. :)

everybody has their favorites. I like duo clear and cheapie lashes (ardell) from the drugstore. there is a particular model I get that is nice and thick, and the length from inner to outer corner is a little shorter than most, so they fit my eyes well. I prefer synthetic lashes over natural hair - they last much better for me. the natural ones tend to clump on me if my face gets sweaty.
learned a trick from aziza: she glues two pairs together, and then puts the doubled lashes on. looks nice!
I love the fancy jewelled ones - my faves have tiny hologram sequins on the lashes - they glimmer whether your eyes are open or closed. also like ones with sparkles along the base.
I *try* to look like a drag queen when I put them on! :) a trick I read about from a drag queen that I actually try now and then, is to put them on so they stick up instead of laying flat along the tops of your own lashes.
I like to do all of my makeup first, including mascara, and then put them on last. I also have better luck and am more comfortable if I apply them to my lashes rather than to the skin. if I put them on my lids, it feels like my eyes are wearing golf visors. fine for one show, but if I have to wear them for a long time or multiple gigs - ugh.

That is what I do too if I am on a bigger stage. For closer performances, I wear one pair.
I just use what they have at Walgreens or similar. What I have now is "Ardell" and I use their eyelash glue as well. I would love to find some eyelash glue for more sensitive skin though. Most of them make my eyes water a little.
When I double them, I put a shorter pair, a demi Ardell #101 on top of a longer lash like Ardell #111. Then it is thicker at the base like one's natural lashes.
I also learned from a workshop I took a few years back to taper the lashes at the inside and outside corners more like one's own would be. The same instructor also said that sometime lashes may even need to have a little bit of length cut off depending on the size and shape of one's eye for a more natural look and feel.
