wait...dude....did I just post MYSELF on the UBDC thread?!?

I remember when you performed in this costume at Aalim's hafla! It definately has the 60's-funky fun! And I remember everyone liking the costume! I still think it's soooo cute!

I guess since I saw the 60's costume paired with music from James Brown & Hakim, I never really thought about it being a UBDC. They just naturally go together. At least it fits well!

I don't know if you're kidding, Naiya, but I absolutely think you should weave a few feathers into your hair! I don't think having understated hair would work with the costume, you should 'be' the outrageous-ness from head to toe - although I'd stop short of feathered slippers, if I were you
Ooh! You should come in with some swallow-tail Isis wings in yellow or black! That would be awesome!

Tayr, Arabic for bird, is the subject of many Lebanese songs. Fairuz has a famous song called Ya Tayr, that I was thinking of using part of possibly when I get mine. It would have to be a song dealing birds, soaring, wind, etc. I'm still thinking of other songs too. And I'm definitely going all out with Isis wings. It's just perfect for the costume IMO. Of course I won't be wearing mine at Carnival of Stars, so if you like the Fairuz song feel free to use it

Lauren, did you happen to see the Ahlan wa Sahlan video or pics from 2006? Asmahan wore something much like your UBDC costume (which I honestly find rather cute, but it does need a special venue), complete with large tall floppy brimmed hat (in matching fabric), and she came out of a huge box wrapped like a present and her guys were dressed in clown suits. It was wild, and fun, and fitting. She went around the room and danced on the tables.
Naiyah - I would also consider a black feather boa, or one of those capes edged in black feathers. LOTS of rhinestones.
For a comedy duet, I would suggest another dancer dressed in a leopard print costume.

So. After reading this thread, is anyone still wondering why I thought we weren't supposed to laugh at costumes any more?

Oh, I wish I had some guys to dress in clown suits!
Actually, I wish I'd painted flowers and peace signs on my cheeks for more of a full 'goldie hawn effect'

Not to hijack the thread, but I've seen Asmahan's guys dressed in all colors of tuxedos, pirate costumes, clown suits, caveman/BamBam costumes, and during the opening of the same show with the clown suits, they came out in white satin suits with these huge celestial objects on their heads and upper torsos (a crescent moon, the earth, etc). They had these little holes to look through that didn't work very well because they kept bumping into each other. Asmahan came out of a star parked in the middle of the stage (of course). You gotta love her showmanship!!
But one of the pics of her guys in the BamBam suits just kills me. The look on one guy's face is "good god - what I do to be in show business."
I would have LOVED to see a peace sign on your cheek!!

I think it would be terribly funny if the leopard chased the bird offstage for a second a came back on spitting out a few black feathers. Then Naiya could return, smoothing the feathers (and her hair) back out and looking rather distressed and huffy.

Amartia, that was one of the beautiful moments of the season on that show .... seriously....... my mom called me, she was crying, she was very moved......she could see the hummingbird, the whole story... and this is a hip-hop guy ..... he's come back 3 or 4 times and finally made it this far. I loved him, through the whole season. I had taped it, and when I watched them, I loved it, really, really loved it. (also blown away by his hip-hop, which I am starting to enjoy because of this show....)
.... by the way, his name is Hok (phonetically, "hawk")!

Actually, now that I've gotten over myself, I'm having fun ..... I am able to visualize more options now ..... I have enough leopard costumes to make that duet happen..... and sure as heck have enough boas and rhinestones from other comedy stuff ....... but this one is going to take a lot of thought & work...... I like outrageous, but it has to be clever, not just silly....okay, guys?
Seriously, I'm putting out a big "OPEN" sign for ideas...... but in good taste, okay? No wings for me (but I can't wait to see Shaunte with hers and the wings!) .......

I did think what I wrote was a bit vulgar, but I'm glad you found it amusing
Just hearing that the feathers have a sheen to them makes a difference in how I think the costume would look in person. I've certainly been known to sport a feather or three myself on occasion
