moms how long before you dropped the weight?
how long did it take for you to return to not necessarily pre-pregnancy weight but somewhere close? what did you do for exercise/how long ?
I dropped 17 pounds already (gained about 30 over the whole pregnancy) I figure a lot of that is baby and water, etc..I know breastfeeding helps you to lose it faster, and after the six week checkup I'm planning on being in the water again swimming or surfing every other day
any other hints? how long before the cool jeans fit again? i'm at that funny in between stage..a belly looked cute when it had a firm baby in it but now it looks like a puddle

It took me about six weeks to lose the weight BUT I gained it back b/c I was a naughty mom who ate something EVERYTIME I fed my son. Bad, bad, bad I hope you won't follow in my footsteps.

Hi Jesennia,
Congratulations on your new baby!
The weight can be frustrating. I was told it generally takes as long to take it off as it took to put it on. You can't rush it, and if you're breast feeding, you'll drop most of the weight quickly, but your body will hang on to the last ten pounds or so until you wean.
The main area of frustration for me was that even after I'd lost the weight after a few months, my hips and ribcage were still spread out, so my old clothes didn't fit that well. It seems like it took almost a year for everything to settle back to almost where it was pre-baby. But it will happen, so don't get frustrated!
You'll feel so much better when you're cleared to exercise again. Good luck!

I took me about 5 months for my abdomen to firm back up, and I still had giant boobs from nursing. I don't think I felt like "me" again until I stopped nursing (about 2 years!!! YIKES!!).

I gained 33 pounds. I dropped back to my original weight 6 weeks after. Then, I went back to work and snacked my a$$ off. Climbed back up in weeks. Now, five years later, I've finally lost the weight. I confess, I haven't exercised much outside of rehearsal. Join the bhuz diet team. The support there has been immeasurable.
Hugs & congrats on your baby,

Gained over 70 pounds with my first, so as you can imagine that stuck around for almost 2 years. With my second, gained 50 but almost all of it came off by 6 months. The last 8-10 pounds stuck around until I was done breastfeeding when he was 15 months. That time I made sure to eat breakfast every day (sounds simple but Moms sometimes put themselves last!) and went for a walk with the stroller at least 4 days/week. And of course, danced daily. :)
You'll be a hottie Mom again in no time! Congrats!

You will all hate me, but I was within a pound of pre-preg weight the day after I gave birth... but I was VERY careful during the pregnancy and only gained 20 pounds. ON the other hand, while I am below my pre preg weight, I haven't got the muscles toned back up at all (7 weeks later). Any suggestions?

I gained 32 lbs, and lost 22 of it by the time I went back to work 6 weeks later. That last 10 lbs, though...that probably took another 3 months or 4 months to get rid of. I didn't breastfeed, so that definately didn't have an impact.

it totally depends on the mom, but in general, if you're nursing, the weight will come off easily. I was 142 when I got pg with my daughter. when she was 6 months old, I was 132. now she's 5 and my son is almost 1, and I'm another 5lbs below that! it contributes to the weight loss factor if you're a sahm - you're so busy taking care of everybody else that you forget to eat.
body-wise, my waist is thicker, and my boobs are ginormous. hopefully they'll go back down in a year or two so they don't scare people so much.
with both kids: with fairly casual dancing - 2-3 gigs a month, maybe dancing once a week - I felt like I was back in fighting form by one year. I feel like I've got my core muscle tone and "snap" back, finally. and I look good in my costumes. I looked fine at 6 months, but now I feel more like my regular pre-baby self.
if you're swimming and out in the water, you'll bounce right back! women's bodies were made to bear children - and to recover from it and go back to normal.
