Tahtib-ish

Does anyone have a good source for cane's, but without the hook? I don't want a stick as long as the men's Tahtib, but that same concept. Anyone make their own? What did you use?
Prefer to purchase, than making my own.

I use wooden doweling wrapped in coloured tape. They will break if you hit the floor really hard, but you can get them cut in any length (good for tall/short dancers).

I also use a wooden dowels. I haven't had any problem with them breaking. But I also use thick ones. (1/2 - 3/4 inch) Go to Home Depot. Find the dowels, cut to the height you like. Then take them home, do a little sanding and stain them. And there you have it!

The larger dowles are heavier then the canes which we typically use, but not as heavy as the big canes used by Morocco or Fifi. In fact, Fifi recommended that you use something heavier than the little bamboo cane canes which are common here.

I have fancy canes for performances, but bought a whole bunch of thick wooden dowels for my students to use in class - they work great!!! In fact, I like them better than I do my fancy canes. I sanded the dowells down a little, then spray-painted them gold.

My old teacher uses bamboo in the same manner, but I hated using them. They're way too light.

yes, the lighter cane's are harder to balance on your head too!
