Jenny

MiriamGamal,

I've been using Jenny Craig but stopped about 1.5 months ago and have just been eating using their principles which are basically Volumetrics. I eat low glycemic index foods, low fat, and I eat every few hours.

That's why that damned hallowe'en candy is hell - I shouldn't eat it at all but have indulged in a couple of pieces this month. Sugar and refined carbs make me hungry.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone! Right now I'm not on a program... more taking what has worked for me from several programs. I know lo-carb a la Atkins isn't for me, but some of the South Beach principles worked pretty well. I've done WW too and can take it or leave it really, but I did learn a lot.

I'm generally trying to get plenty of fruits, vegees, and dairy as well as eating lean meats in moderation and choosing whole grains over processed white-flour foods. Of course, trying to steer clear of sugar will help too.

I'm getting back into yoga and some other conditioning, plus walking more. I really like walking, but don't often give myself enough time to do so. Time management is currently my biggest obstacle.

Anyway, thanks again for all the support. I'll let you know how it goes!

wow, I didn't read this thread too much this week...and a lot has happened! :) Dani, you are looking SO good! Contrats! Christina, welcome! This thread is VERY supportive. :) I think the small goals are best as well...it makes it less intimidating.

so I went to my Weight Watchers meeting today...after my weekend of drunkenness at Ren Faire (ooh, I love Scotch...and wine...and rum...and beer...) I was REALLY worried that I'd gained weight...but I guess the two six packs of evian (+4 bottles of arrowhead water that I drank trying to sober up) and all the walking and dancing helped, because I lost another 1.6 lbs this week!

That puts me down a total of 7.4 lbs! (I started 4 weeks ago.) WOO HOO!!!!

Yasmindiab -

That is excellent!! way to go. That's a very rewarding weight loss.
This process requires support & I'm glad we're all here to give it to each other.

I guess that's what make WW work if you do the meetings, right? All the group support and interaction.

I had a stressful day today but I didn't do to badly with the food. I hope I'm on track again. I'm trying to up my water consumption and drink more tea - that worked really well for me at the beginning. Hot tea instead of snackies.

Well, I have been to the gym and eaten my 1400 calories of healthy food for the day. The problem is its only 7:30 and I know I'm going to be hungry before I'm sleepy. There are lots of leftovers from dinner. I could easily stand in front of the fridge and wolf down another 500 calories in under 5 minutes.

Can you girls send me some psychic moral support?

OK! so I weighed in yesterday, and I'm down another 1.2 pounds. that's -8.6 in 4 weeks! Woo hoo!

However, the thing I want to post is this:
HALLOWEEN CANDY! I know that some of us were worried about the extra candy that may be lingering after the holiday...my WW leader gave us some great ideas...

1. Instead of passing out candy, pass out something more fun: ghost erasers, stickers, mini-packs of crayons from the dollar store, etc.

2. Give out candy that you don't like yourself...that way, you're less likely to eat it.

3. Only buy a small amount of candy...when you're out, you're out. Or...when you don't feel like answering the door anymore, dump the remainder of the candy in some lucky kid's bag!

4. Whatever candy you have left, take it to a church or a pre-school, after-school program. Churches will use it for their Sunday school classes or youth groups, and regular schools can always use treats for the kids! :) (This was one I'd never thought of before.)

:)

How's everyone else doing? :)

Time for me to get my rear in gear again!

As I know I've mentioned before (probably quite a bit), this last month has been "moving month" for our family. In the last 4 weeks I sold my house in VA, moved into a motel with my hubby, 3 kids, and our dog for 2 weeks, and then moved into our new house in Maine. In all the unpacking that I've been doing, I came across my scale. Let me tell you, I was scared to get on it!

Between all the "junky" eating and not teaching Jazzercise for a month, I gained 9 lbs!!! And my body is definitely feeling it. I went to a Jazzercise class last week to realive some stress and I could barely keep up. It was horrible. I knew then that I needed to get back into my "good" routine. Thankfully, hubby is also wanting to get himself back into his routine so we've been working out again and we are changing the eating habits! YEAH!! And now that I've finally got my dining room table cleared off of all the boxes that were piled up on it, we can actually sit down and have dinner as a family at night again. What a joy!! It's also really good for the kids too, because they can now get back into their routine of doing their chores after dinner (clearing off the table and emptying the dishwasher).

My workout routine is currently consisting of learning new Jazzercise routines (our latest set of routines was delivered while I was in the motel), and incorporating some of the workouts from hubby's "P90X" workout dvds. Have any of you ever done P90X? Did it work for you? I'm definitely SORE!!!

Anyway, I just thought I'd put it out to the world that I'm jumping back on the wagon! Wish me luck!!

I'm right there with you Gwyncara. I've gained back nearly 10 pounds of my 20 pound weight loss, if I don't get it under control I'll end this year right where I started!

Wow, it creeps back on fast. An extra 2-3 pounds. "oh, I must be bloated." 2-3 more pounds after that? "oops, that was a *real* weight gain, and now I'm bloated on top of that!" Another 2-3 pounds and...yoinks, I've gained 9 pounds!!!

I'm back to documenting on fitday as of today.

NO!!!

Lauren,

You get right back on the wagon this minute!!! no no no no no!
Of course, you've had some major trauma going on so let's just forgive ourselves and move ahead.

I'm doing okay. I had a major horror moment on Monday when I weighed in at 164 but I'm back down to 161 now. I drank a little much on the weekend.

Let me tell you - I can definitely see the extra 3 pounds and feel it - all squishy and poofy.

Let's make a pact with each other again - starting this weekend - back on track for real - no fudging! We have only 2 months to christmas and that's my goal for 10 more pounds!

10 lbs before christmas sounds like a reasonable goal to me. I'm in! My goal weight is 155. (14.4 lbs to lose) I want to look good in my dress for my hubby's christmas party. Better yet, I want to have to go buy a new dress because my old ones are too big!

Edited to add that I just got on the scale and I've lost 1.6 lbs since I weighed myself on Monday.

Monday: 169.6
Friday: 168.0

Woo-Hoo!! I think I'm going to continue to weigh myself on Monday's and Friday's. That should help by keeping track of how I do over the weekends.

Lauren, stress does so much to us including hoarding fat on our bodies. And comfort foods, of course.

It has been slow for me. Between the time I first met with the nutritionist and started a weight loss program at my HMO I put on an additional 5 lbs. Fortunately it fell off quickly but then after that it has been slow. This is week 9 of the program and we have weigh in today. I am losing an average of about 1.5 lbs a week. So I am down about 13 lbs so far. Still fighting to get enough protein and keep the fat down. The program ends next week but there is a weekly weigh-in followup meeting each week for people who have been through the program. Out of the 12 people who started the class together there are only three of us left. One of the gals who stuck it out weighed over 300 lbs and has dropped about 30 lbs so far. She started exercising for the first time in a decade by going to the pool and swimming for an hour every day. She said that some days all she can do is just tread water or do a little side stroke, but she keeps moving for the entire hour. The pool she goes to is not far from my house and is heated and open over the winter, so I may join her once in a while or look at taking one of their water aerobics classes for something different. So I am thinking positively, which makes a real difference.

Boy do I need this Christmas Challenge! I've fallen so far off it isn't funny, but thankfully the scale hasn't shown anything too scary.

I think I'm going to try Body for Life once I can get my hands on the book. One of my troupe members did it once and lost like 20 lbs... if I can lose 5-10 total by losing some jiggle and replacing it with a little more muscle, I'd be set. Has anyone else tried this?

Good news! Just got back from my weekly weight management class and official weigh-in. Down anothr 2.5 lbs!!!! Maybe I can do 10 more lbs by Christmas too. I think that is a reasonable expectation.
