Ditto on the hair thing. No matter what I do, my hair impersonates Cher's hair in the late 60's.

I'd also like to know how to put on bronzer on my body (legs, chest, etc.)--not just my face. I hate it when the body and the face are radically different colors!

I think this photo is the best one I have to hand (ok in bhuz galery!) illustrating the 'horn thing' (not the sort of thing I have in depth photos of!!)
In the pic the horns are still covered a bit by those bits of short hair that never grow, but you can get the idea.
Edited to add: also visable in this pic:

Melody, i love the way Princess Farhana's make-up looks. She has a retro-glam look that I love love love (and her hair is part of that package).
If you could reveal how to do make-up like that, I'd SO buy the book. I've been warped by Bobbie Brown for so long that I'm a little scared to look GLAM.

Help
Melody,
I'm in L.A. - will you do a private lesson? I need make up help. I have to do a "performance" - not dance but it will be taped - and I need to not "disappear" on camera. I also have a headshot session coming up.
Here's my every day face, which doesn't like to wear make up as you can tell. My problems are that I'm 47 and the fine lines and crows feet love to emerge through base. yuck. I like make up when done well, I just don't know what to do for myself.
I'm afraid those dark circles under my eyes are getting worse not better, and my upper lip is getting thinner as I get older and disappears when I smile - boo! (My skin is more yellowy olive toned, though this photo makes me look really yellow.)
I have never known what to do about my eye makeup, so I don't do much - although I think I have nice eyes. Overall I like a natural look.

Hang tight it's gonna be cool! :)
But I would like to answer a few now ...O.K. FINE HAIR..
start with clean wet hair- put a volumizer on the roots only( I like Sebastian Root Lift) dump your head upside down and lift your roots as you dry with your fingers. when you get about 75% dry spray a soft, brushable holding spray through you hair ( I LOVE White Sands Liquid texture firm finishing spray,it's magic!) -finish drying (still upside down) Flip up and grab your hot rollers (even if you want your hair on the straight side ,Just use big ones)
spray each roller section with a heat protector/ firm hold working spray )I totally LOVE White Sands Liquid texture firm hold spray, will hold ANY hair and you can brush through it,extra magic!) toss the U shaped clips and buy some clamps for your hot rollers(Conair and Remington rock!) Let you rollers cool off COMPLEATLY. I like to do my make-up ,pack my costume while the rollers are in. Take the rollers out right b4 you go. If you want your hair on the curley side take the rollers out then reclip the curl, hair spray, and put a scarf on untill you get to your stage show. If your going to a home or party pack a curling iron to touch up right b4 you perform. Ladies with curley or frizzy hair might need to smooth your hair out with a blow dryer b4 setting on hot rollers.
Oh and remember to practice first, if your not sure how it will look.
Hope that helps you out a little in the mean time...

I have fine texture hair and it's not about the styling per se...it's keeping the look going that's the problem! No matter what volume I might be able to get it's going to be a flat limp mess two minutes into dancing. I've grown my pixie cut to jaw-length layers but even after getting to goal length I'll stick to synthetic ponytails/falls for performing otherwise I can forget about "sustainable volume"

Mish Mish, I LUV Cher's hair I think you should work with it. Play up the straightness.
It's gorgeous.
My one daughter has alot of fine dark straight hair, and my other daughter has about 25 pounds of long curly dark hair. Her ponytail is about 5 inches across!
Anyway, I tell my girls to work with what they have, they both have gorgeous hair, but very different textures.

Cher fan
I also love Cher's 70s hair. gorgeous.
Long straight hair is tough to do anything with other than ponytails and updos and such so it gets boring. But it is so pretty.

Mish Mish - I've seen gals with long straight hair braid two small braids along the side, and it's so pretty. And you can clip in those little glitter hair pins they sell, they sell them everywhere, target, grocery stores.

I third the request for doing an Arabic eye on small eyes. I love the look of heavy dark liner but it just makes my eyes disappear. Any helpful hints?

Since the thread is still open, I'll throw this out:
Makeup for a stage show VS
Makeup for a restaurant show VS
Makeup for an afternoon outdoor festival...
get my drift?? Thanks!

Hey Dani, my dance partner splits her time between Norcal and Socal, and she gives makeup lessons. Adriana (949) 939-1646. Hopefully she will be putting her makeup portfolio online sometime soon, but I think she has done makeup instruction for several bhuzzers (like Zaheea and Mychelle) who liked the results.

Doh! This is what I get for not reading hte whole thread. I just realized that this was started *by* a makeup artist, and seeking potential topics. my mistake!
I would be interested in knowing how to keep the hairline from frizzing when I perform. (Of course the part which is most obvious is the first place that gets messy on me.)
I would also like tips on blush application that doesn't look really 80s. Ways to use light colors on dark skin without looking ashy. Alternatives to the thick black eyeliner/red lipstick look. I also like the "MAC" look with alternating matte and shimmer. Wehn left to my own devices, I get carried away with the shiny, and it never looks quite as lush as it did in the shop. How to keep one's face from melting between shows.
Oh! an this would be cool - how to "detramp" after dancing. Like when you've got on 5 pounds of makeup, and you're done for the night, but need to meet friends somewhere. How does one take it DOWN a notch to regular evening makeup without scrubbing it all off and starting from scratch?
Melody, I think I met you once in LA! If I recall, you had really nice makeup too. Now I know why...

That sultry Arabian eye! Think the biggest mistake is to do an entire "full bleed" with the black if you are performing on a stage or a distance passed 10 ft from your audience. (full bleed -from lid to inner lash line) it will close your eye. check out this photo.. http://www.allposters.com/-sp/-Posters_i341789_.htm
notice she leaves the bottom rim and outer corner of her eye open. also the inside corner (by your tear duct) ans under her eye brow ,has no black or dark shading at all. The black on the upper lid is full bleed to her lash line to cover her awesome fake lashes, and give her that sultry half open eye.
To get this almond shape leave "breathing" room on the inner corner and under your brow. yes, this will translate to any eye shape at any age.Look at recent photos of Sophia Loren, She is still so fab!
Make-up for photography= detail, detail! A still posed photo shows every flaw this make-up and hair should be clean, and extra time taken. Soft contouring and hilighting.Work with your photographer, look at the images as you shoot. (for digital ) Bring a friend to the shoot to help!
Make-up for large restaurant /stage=You are a moving target at a good distance, pay attention to your silhouette, your hair should add 2 inches to your height. heavy contouring and hilighting. You should check your makeup standing a min 5 feet from your mirror.(the mirror doubles the distance you stand from the glass, soooo 5 ft =how you look to someone 10 feet away.) a lot of this style is implied beauty, so if your not sure if your wearing enough make-up or your hair isn't big enough it probably isn't. Drag queens are stunning on stage, but scary up close!
Video and Hi def= this really depends on the type of filming you are doing. If your filmed at a hafla by a friend your make-up and hair can be the same as for a photo, as long as you are moving the camera is very forgiving. go for a med contour and hilight, if the room is dark contouring is key!
If you are shooting hi def ditch the glitter for softer shimmer.! It is way to distracting and takes away from your dancing. this type of filming shows a lot of detail and every drop of sweat. Have a friend keep an eye on your make-up and hair at your shoot. Have a cool (dry) wash cloth to pat your face and body between takes, then touch up your powder and lips. Do a lighting test b4 you shoot .

Lotus, I was trying to figure out where I met you too! I have a hard time with names, and most belly dancers have 2 Ha ha!
Zafirah, I feel your hair line pain! Fine one length hair does get those "horns"
Head bands are a quick good quick fix, and look great like thishttp://www.maqam.com/cdcvr/GO-MC61803.jpg
