do you need hair/make-up help?
Hi,
I'm a professional hair and make-up artist in L.A. I'm also a belly dancer ,and been performing here for the last 10 years. I am working on a project about belly dance hair and make-up,and would like to take a mini pol as to what hair and make-up applications dancers have a hard time with. What kind of "how to's" Would you like to see. Also what era or style of dancers you like to see artistic photos of. what style you can never find enough refrence(costume hair make-up)on the internet.(folkloric, vintage, egyption,goth,whatever.....)
And what ever would be on your wish list as far as hair ,make-up and costuming is concerned.
Thanks in advance!

- How can I create that heavily lined Arabian eye look without shrinking my eyes to nothing? (I notice as I get older, my eyes are smaller relative to the rest of my face)
- Is there really anything I can do with straight, fine, bunny-fur hair that doesn't hold a curl? I mean, anything that will last through an evening of dancing.
- If not, teach me about matching & securing hairpieces & extensions!

what on earth to do with fine hair that won't hold any clips etc but looks lame on its own on totally -un-bellydancer-y'. Oh and lays so flat naturally that even those matching hairbands make it stick out over the top and unnatural stupid angles.

I tried a couple of 3/4 fall thingies, but you know what? . .because they come out from the head at an angle other than 'limp' they just look so obviously fake on me even with a band covering thejoin. . . .or maybe I just need to get a MASSIVE headband to cover most of my head!!!
My hair is my one big downfall presentation wise because if I pull a bit back (what i tend to do so i can put a big flower and sparkly clips in it) I have these little 'horns' at the front of really baby hair that look bald. Gah

False eyelashes and Arabic eyes (smokey eyes) are two issues that come up a lot for bders. I would also add
-Egyptian eyes (Udjat eye), aka the Cleopatra look
-Hair extensions - types and how to secure them
-Stage makeup vs make up for photography
BTW, I also have that baby fine hair that doesn't hold a curl. Any suggestions on how to make it BIGGER would be greatly appreciated!!

Help for extra oily/shiny skin, contouring, and other makeup tricks for imperfect features.
Also, vintage and fantasy look how-to's, both hair and make-up

I'd like to join the support group for limp, fine-haired bellydancers.
I'd love to know, in general, tips for making a caucasian suburban soccer mom look exotic and luscious. (Arabian eyes, fake lashes, bronzing and contouring...the works)
And if it could be accomplished in less than 45 minutes, that would make it perfect!

Yes, I concur, and also how to get the Arabian eye look on flat eyes. (not sure if flat is the right word or deepset, but my eyelid and brow area are mostly on the same plane; I don't have any 3 dimensional depth to my crease or prominence to my lid or brow area; many Asian eyes have this characteristic also). Makeup instructions are generally demonstrated on young models with phenomenal bone structure -- what about the rest of us?

I need the most help with eyes.
- technique for creating a smoky sultry eye
- colors!! which ones to choose and how to blend them. I have a hard time with eyeshadows. Nothing (I try) looks good with blue eyes.
- for me to buy the book, I would want to see closeup COLOR photos of different eye makeup jobs, on all different skin tones and eye colors, and step by step instructions on how to do it.
- suggestions on brands to use, ideally the shades used in the photos would be named so if I love something I can go find it.
- stage makeup tips would be helpful as well

Check out Aziza Said's method for eye contouring.
More stuff on how to remove all that stuff and keep your skin healthy afterwards.

Wow ! Thank you all for the help! (or asking for it) After working on the last BDSS videos, I noticed even those girls have just as many questions about make-up and hair, and get frustrated too. Keep this thread going ,it really is helpful! On this project I will be covering a lot of what your asking about, eyelashes, make-up and ligh | |
