Silk skirt advice

How do you feel about habotai for a silk circle skirt?

I ordered some charmeuse to make a skirt out of which I was going to layer with gauze- so two layers gauze and one layer charmeuse (I've made this skirt before and love it), but my charmeuse isn't here yet and I was hoping to have a skirt for this weekend.

I do have some habotai though. I never thought that habotai was the greatest for a skirt because I assumed it would get create a lot of static, but have any of you got habotai silk skirts? If so how do you feel about them? I guess weight is a factor too. I have 2 weights a 10 mm and a 6 mm. Let me know what you think.

I have had 10 mm habotai circle skirts before and loved them. I would think 6 mm would be too wispy.

I think Jes uses 8mm for her skirts and 6 for her veils. I kinda like the idea of 10 mm ingeneral. But I love 3 panel and the extra weight can mean that the silk moves better. Not that 6 or 8 move badly, but the wieght means that turns are more defined. . .

Okay, you guys know what I mean, I hope!

I have four 8mm, all circle and a half, and I love them. They move beautifully!

I think of your two weight choices you should go with the 10mm; a 6mm skirt might be a little too sheer and flyaway.

have you ever paired a habotai with a silk chiffon, or just did the habotai by itself. I kind of want to go for a chiffon on top look, with the gauze. None of you have had static issues?

I have done silk chiffon as an underskirt with my akia silk skirt. Haven;t had any problems at this point.

Shems, I had a silk gauze overskirt that I wore over heavy silk charmeuse harem pants a long time ago, and I don't remember having static problems, and that was in Utah. I would think static would be even less of a problem on the east coast.

i can't answer the static question since i'm in hawaii but if you have charmeuse go for it..charmeuse is such incredible silk, because it's heavier and has that gorgeous shine to it. it's worth the extra price! And don't you dye silk too? Dyeing charmeuse is wonderful.

I've made 6 mm habotai skirts in the past that were ok if layered over other skirts. 10 mm works better due to the weight. Habotai is a nice affordable silk for skirts..is still pretty and moves like silk.
