I, too, dislike harem pants! They are most unflattering!!! And I hate all the bra fringe on the typical Turkish style bras!! Especially when it is the super long, all the way down to the waist kind!!!
Oh and another pet peeve - bras that are worn too low! Hike those puppies up girls! They are not boobs, they are chinrests!!!

Hm, I guess I am a minority - I love my big, fat, comfy, cotton pantaloons. I wear them everywhere. (But, I also wear tassels and huge cotton skirts, so I am in a totally different cluster, style- and taste-wise.) They are clearly not for performing more oriental style.
I feel rather strongly that garter pants made out of Melodia pants are not appealing. And, oversized yarn hair dread thingies, especially when made from lower-end yarn. Those fringe belts that look like they are made from grammy's leftover yarn and christmas tree tinsel.

I would like a Platinum Lifetime Membership in the Anti-Harem Pants club. You really do have to be long and leggy to wear them, and even so I don't like them. For some reason they make me think of genie dolls ( and not in a good way, more in a " she's too old for that look!" kind of way).
Everything from how you can trip on the gathered ankle hems to the dropped crotch that makes you look like you didn't get to the bathroom on time , to the voluminous folds that appear to have the power to hide kidnapped toddlers! Away with them, I say!
I admit, part of my issue is that the pants that come with traditional Indian clothes are too much like harem pants. When I was younger I wished for better-fitting pants under those tops, so I would not want to willingly wear them with my sparkly bedleh!

I totally agree on the centre-of-the-cup Turkish bra fringe! All I can think of when I see that stuff is: nassle.
I've also never seen a paillette I didn't hate.
I bought a pair of sheer harem pants to wear for modesty under a chiffon skirt, and I've just sold them unworn. My legs looked just as bare in them as they did without them! I didn't see the point. Underskirt it is.

It's funny so many of us seem to be having PMS right now (me, too!). Maybe we're spending too much time together. :-)

I'm definitely not a big fan of harem pants worn alone with bra and belt. Ecchhkk! But they can work well under a skirt and with the right style costume.
I absolutely HATE crowns of any kind! They look ridiculous!
I also hate any costumes with appliques or designs that sit right on the nipple....it's a small step up from pasties and just as horrifying!

I don't like the hermes sandals and I don't like the harem pants. I also don't like the bell bottom pants or the pants that are spandex from the hip to the thigh then billow out from the knee to the ankle in chiffon. I only like straight, fitted pants. Sahar, Eman and Hanan make those kinds of pants costumes.

I only wear pants when I'm going for thATS look. I banned them from my cabaret costume closet! I'm tall and leggy and I look like a graden gnome when I'm wearing harem pants.
I confess that I own a pair of those gold ballet slipper thingies. Because if I dance in a restaurant with uneven flooring and I can't wear my latin ballroom shows, they are lifesavers. Or at least prevent me from feeling gross because you feel SOMETHING squishy between your toes...

I don't have PMS, but I do hate myself in harem pants. I see other people looking fine in them, but they make me look like I've got elephantiasis, which I probably spelled wrong.
Hermes sandals--ugly as sin. They make everybody's feet look two sizes bigger. If I were dancing in a place where shoes were absolutely necessary and I couldn't wear ballroom shoes, I'd go for ballet slippers.
Tribal fusion hotpants and garters look. I think that smiley sums it up.
Crookedly attached fringe. Asymmetrical is one thing, shoddy workmanship is another entirely, as is not being bothered to fix it.
Too-long bra straps.
I'm sure I can think of more if I ponder it...

Count me in... I hate harems, and I hate those gold or silver slippers even more!
Nothing is more distracting than metallic feet. Gah!

I hate harems too, especially the sheer and printed ones.
I could not be comfortable wearing the hermes, the strings wouldn't stay up unless I tied them super tight-at which point they were cutting into my legs and making the flesh buldge-yuk!
I hate long fringe on bras, unless its right in the center that reaches the belly button. All the costumes I've owned have had short fringe. Sure it might not show some moves as well (like vibrations), so I don't do a whole lot of that. I'm more of a "big moves" kind of dancer anyway.
Also, I hate those large chunky heels some dancers will wear with their cabaret costumes. I just think those shoes do not belong in a performance.
Last but certainly not least, uncovered bras. We don't care if its a Victoria's Secret yadda yadda, just please properly cover the bra so it doesn't look like underwear.

Not replacing the hardware on a self decorated bra. It makes me nuts. In fact, I wrote a blog entry in my Myspace on how to do this.
I don't mind Harem pants of Hermes sandles. Just when they are overdone. Hermes should be tied at the ankle. And the legs if the harem pants can be narrow so that you don't look as though you are walking around with a couple of balloons on your legs!
I just hate when people don't look in the mirror when they get ready to go out the door. And many people use Belly Dance as an excuse to wear what ever because "It's Belly Dance!"

hee hee hee!
my hate list -
tissue lame' (just take away the accent, that about covers it)
decorated nipples of any kind (gah!) - along with dancers doing too many or too big chest isolations (but i guess that would be another thread...)
the yucky wall-o-fringe bra type described above (especially on my short-waisted and kinda gravity-prone 34C self, a giant no-no)
big cutouts leaving exposed butt cheek sides
one thing i hate on my figure type, though i know some people love them, are the bra/skirt sets connected by a scarf/streamer type piece of fabric that wraps from belt to bra (i have no idea if there is a name for this). not a belly cover or sparkly type connecting piece, just a random piece of fabric, sometimes two colors - looks jarring to me.
(rolls eyes to appear innocent and says nothing about layering chiffon harems - though balloony ones are wrroonnnggg)

well, please allow me to say that i HATE hermes sandals BUT I don't get glass in my feet. I don't want to dance in heels and can't seem to find flat shoes that I like. I wouldn't mind flesh toned ballet slippers or something like that, but there is almost none who matches MY flesh tone. Ideas?
I'm also not a fan of the tribal fringed belt OR the tassels. Helene Melone of Maine makes these fabulous leather fringed scarves that rock my Melodias :-)

My biggest pet peeve isn't harem pants, nor sandals (although I hate clunky, heavy shoes on dancers)...it's dancers that don't attempt to fix their hair before a performance. Seriously. Run a bl%^&y brush through your hair at the very least.

Ballroom shoes. Heels. Hermes sandles in restaurants aren't that bad. As long as they are the right size and laced properly. Just remember, this is a tough crowd. You'll never please everyone!
Of course, I am still lusting after Carolyng Mdme Abla Watermellon Surprise costume with the matching shoes! Too bad it was too small for me!

not a big fan of hermes, or ballet slippers (at least some are shiny), but then again, im not a big fan of glass in my feet.
I kinda like harams under matching skirts, cuz when you spin its unexpected, and im like...ooo harams! or is it harems. and that pic tamra posted looks hot not fat and frumpy. Guess it just depends (prepares to be slayed by mish ;)
