Good wigs?

I'm looking for a good wig (because I need one to have short hair once in a while) that looks natural and isn't too expensive.
I wonder if wigs of real hair are less hott to wear then synthetic ones (I don't want my head to get awfully sweaty!). Does anyone know?

When you say short hair, Amulya, how short is short? Because if you want the look of a bob, there are ways and means of styling long hair to look like a bob.

I doubt real hair wigs are much different in terms of hotness-to-wear, because it's the mesh cap that's on your head and those are invariably synthetic so far as I know. Also, *good* real hair wigs and pieces cost an absolute bomb. I had a little hairpiece once that was real hair - it was beautiful but unfortunately not useful to me.

But I think Amulya has hair down to her knees (right?), so I doubt it can be styled to look like a bob.

And speaking of knee-length hair, can that much hair really be stuffed into a wig cap? And if it can, it seems like all that hair will be the main contributor to how hot the wig is, not the materials it's constructed from.

Personally, I find even 3/4 falls with open mesh caps and my shoulder length hair pinned underneath to be almost insufferably hot.

I knew it was finally time to give up on my wigs when pinning up my growing out hair began to form unsightly lumps under the cap. And that was just when it was shoulder length!

Yep that's exactly my problem! The wig is not only for me, but also for 1 or 2 other dancers so we all look the same. We want to style it such a way that it looks like a 60's bob style with fringe (Betty Page like). I don't think I'd be able to do that with my hair, but I am able to stuff my hair in such a way that it can go under a wig. I used to have one, but it was synthetic and VERY itchy (the synthetic hair was itchy)! But it did look real.

I have a source of affordable real hair wigs, so I can go for those, but maybe synthetic is easier in use. However I wonder in maintenance is synthetic just as easy as real hair? My own synthetic wig died one day of tangles LOL.

Synthetic wigs are really easy to care for. The trick is to use your fingers to remove any tangles as soon as you get it off and never brush or comb it when dry. Also don't comb or brush when wet. I use a spray on wig conditioner that reducing tangling and helps keep the wig in good shape. I mix some in a spray bottle of water and lightly mist over the hair when combing. I recently washed one of my 3/4 falls and put the hair in large rollers to see how it would turn out. It did dry faster and smoother. I just used my fingers to separate the hair for the rollers. Worked really well so I will do it again. On the curly ones I wash the wig, roll lightly in a towel, and then gently shake out the excess moisture and air dry on a wig stand. When dry I mist lightly with conditioner and use my fingers to work out an tangles.

The only way I think you could get that much hair under the wig cap would be to pin our own hair in curls around your head and use a wig cap over that. You might want to look into getting a wig with extra large cap so that it will go over all your own natural hair.

Good luck and let us know how this works out.
