For 8 months I solidly logged every stinkin' mouthful of food in Fitday, worked out, etc. Over that period, I lost 20 pounds. I know, the weight loss is slow work at this point in my life, but at least it was coming off!!!! Then I took a short 'break' back in August and I can't get back on track. I've gained back 10 pounds already.

I've made a few feeble attempts to get back onto fitday and start getting serious again, but I can always find a reason to wait. This morning I started to log my food and then I thought "What's the point, I'm going out of town this weekend and I won't be able to eat well or log anything. I'll start on Monday"

But of course, on Monday it'll be some new excuse. There's always a reason to procrastinate...or a 'special occasion'... or some reason why *today* isn't a good day to take back control.

Someone come over here & kick my butt.
Where's that butt-kicking smilie??

Lauren, why don't you try just logging one meal on Fitday? Sometimes it's getting started that's hard. Or tell yourself that you'll just do it for one day... and the next day tell yourself the same thing.

20 pounds in 8 months is pretty awesome, I think. You can do it!!

Lauren - do you need inspiration, or some butt-kickin' drill sargeant-type motivation? :) I can do either!

Lauren (and everyone else), I don't know if you will find this inspirational or just offensive, but here is an article that I actually read every so often and find it personally inspiring. It is an article called "Merry Christmas, Bob" written from the POV of a male body-builder but there is a universal message that comes through, if you can stomach it:

TESTOSTERONE NATION

Thanks Sedonia. I loved that article. I am printing that out for future reference when I'm feeling like sitting down instead of getting up and moving.

Edited to add: Hey! That site had a great resource for my hubby who is a type II diabetic and having blood sugar issues after his workouts. Double thanks for posting that link! I think he'll find some good advice from other diabetics who do wieght lifting! Woo!!

Great article Sedonia! That was actually a kick in the pants for me this morning. My Friday morning weigh-in: 166.2 It's a small drop (just .3, it was 166.5), but I'm hoping for a bigger drop next week when I start teaching again.

I couldn't get past the male chest beating and hyperbole, but the drift is pretty good in terms being healthy requires dedication.

I had to tap out at the Hillary Clinton comment, though. I'm also not mean enough to say that other people who are overweight motivate me - in fact, I do feel great sympathy for people who struggle with food addictions.

Oh dear...I'm not mean enough to say I don't have great sympathy with anyone else who struggles with food/weight issues!! Eeep!

But I did like the "kick in the pants" kinda tone. And "the best time to start is NOW" idea. :)

On another note, been to the gym three days this week so far if I count tonight's workout. Woot! Planned out my shopping list so that good food is in the house to cook.

I'm feeling like this is doable, and not overwhelming. Which is a new thing for me.

Yesterday was my BIG 60th birthday. Hubby and I had some thin crust mediterranean grilled veggie pizza (meatless) for dinner with a green salad and homemade balsamic vinegrette dressing. After all these years of marriage I have finally convinced him that he doesn't have to get me candy for my birthday.

So today he gave up hunting to go to a halfa with me. The hafla was in Pensacola, about a 2.5 hour drive west of us. We got over there just as they were laying out the lunch spread. By the time I got costumed and made up and performed, all the deserts and lasagna were gone. The hafla gods of dieting were looking out for me. So I was good and had some stuffed grapeleaves and fruit salad.

Okay here is the best part--because of my birthday hubby said he would spend a dollar for every year for me for anything I wanted at the hafla. So I hit the consignment table and got several CDs and 4 Aisha Ali videos. One of the videos was autographed on the cover "To Souzanne"--a variation of my real and stage name. I took it as a good portend.

After the hafla we stopped a seafood restaurant on the bay and sat out of the deck and split a grilled seafood platter. Very nice healthy day all in all!!

Probably haven't lost any weight this week but maybe next week.

I thought the T-Nation article was pretty funny and sorta true. If I had written it I would have replaced the Hilary crack with something equally snide about Dick Cheney's parts, so I can't complain too much.

I am a little out of sorts because when I got measured for a custom guyabera dress today I discovered that my booty had magically expanded by two and a half inches. This totally puts me out of commission for the costumes I've been eyeing. How could I not notice this??? I was feeling pretty good about my body until then.

It makes me paranoid that whatever I'm doing in terms of food and fitness just isn't enough... I guess I'm not ready to accept that I should be eating even healthier than I already am if I want to maintain my "fighting weight". Ugh I hate the post-summer let-down.

Thanks for the birthday greetings! I really did have a very special day.

Got a big boost at the hafla with everyone in the dressing room ooohing and aaaahing over my costume. Purple velvet LRose deluxe trumpet beledi dress with double sleeve drapes. Cut out under the bust and I wore my purple and green iris Neckelmann's set with it. That was the first time I've worn the dress and I tell you, jaws dropped. I danced a variation of Amaya's Amayaguena and the skirt was full enough to do some modified skirt work with. So much fun to be a 60 year old red-headed diva!!!

Hey Bellydance peeps!

I don't know how long its been since I've posted something on here cause things have really been hectic with school...and I really let my diet slip*Head down in shame*. I really don't know how much I weigh anymore and i'm too scared to even look....I am going to get back on track though and try to lose as much as I can before jan 1! I think what got me the worst was the month of sweets....I love candy, I couldn't help myself! December and November are never bad for me and I really don't know why? I do eat a good deal for thanksgiving day and christmas day but I never have weight issues..its always october that gets me. I hope all ya'll are doing good and succeeding on diets! I also hope october didn't ruin none of ya'lls diets like it did mine!

Souzan Happy Belated B-day! I'm so sry it late!

Blech -- did my Monday picture and measurements this morning, and no real change from last week. I'm feeling kind of bloated thanks to a bit too much weekend revelry and not enough cardio thanks to the durn bursitis/knee/foot problems. It stinks to have all the energy and willingness in the world to work out, but to not be able to do it!

I'm still doing a teeny tiny bit of cardio just to warm up, and then free weights/weight machine work. My arms and shoulders are definitely getting stronger, but I sure would love to be able to go whole hog and SWEAT IT OUT already!

Oh! I also meant to mention a notebook that I've put together recently, because it might be helpful for some of you all.

I bought a five-subject notepad from CVS, and allocated the sections like this:

- Diet Diary
- Exercise Diary
- Exercises - Arms, Back, Core
- Exercises - Legs, Glutes, Abs
- Recipes

I have a ton of fitness magazines, and so I started clipping out recipes, exercise ideas, etc. and just pasting them into pages of the notebook. This helps me out a LOT when I'm in the gym, staring at the free weights, trying to remember what cool exercise I just saw in Shape magazine. :)
