lipstick on veil...help!

Does anyone have some advice on how to get lipstick stains out of veils?

I use silk veils and wash them in the tub with woolite. Works to clean them but not to get out those pesky stains. Have a gold veil w/red lipstick imprints of my lips that you can't see from a distance but up close you can. Help!!

Did you try hot water? If the lipstick is oil-based, spot cleaning with hot water and a little dish soap might work. I got a minor oops out that way.

Whatever you do, don't use anything containing chlorine bleach, which will dissolve the silk fibers.

Other than that, spot removers should be safe on the silk, then you only have to worry about the dye. If it was dyed with fiber reactive or acid dyes there should be minimal running or fading.

I use to use eucalyptus oil on my lycra costumes when younger (it was a staple in everyones makeup bag). Just use a cotton ball and dab till removed. Not sure if it will work on silk, perhaps do a test patch in an inconspicuous place first.
