AA to DD cup - fits all !

Rant: In my experence cups that were made for A/B cups (and padded) do not fit D or DD cups if you just take out all the padding. The smaller cups are generally not the right circumference, or press up against the chest in a 'corset' style way, meaning that boob leakage comes from underneath the cup, as well as the top and the sides, or with the corset style pressure bra, D/DD girls boobs are up by their teeth. The cup was made to give A/B cups a boost, while not taking up too much space on the chest circumference-wise.

Why do people think that you can fit an A cup on a DD cup person ? ARgh!

You are so right. My daughter's an A and I'm a D and we know darn well there isn't any such animal as bra cups that can fit just anybody. A costume advertised that way, we pass it by immediately no matter how good it looks. They might as well say "Cup size: Not telling. Take your chances."

I was just ranting about this! As an A cup, if it's advertised like this I pass. If it would fit a D cup, I would have to add, like, 3" worth of padding in order for it to "fit" me. Even if the cups weren't too wide for me, it would look rediculous. I don't know how people think they can pass it off as one size fits all

I still don't understand how people can think all D cups (or C or B...) are equal. I've been a 32-34DD in the past and the idea that a 38DD would fit me is absurd.

I couldn't agree more! Even the whole D/DD thing gets me. If I could fit into a D, I wouldn't need a DD. A D cup does not have enough material to keep me from oozing out the sides!!!

No kidding.... I'm also a former 34DD, and I've tried on so many things that might have fit... if the cups weren't under my armpits! As I'll probably be back up to a 34 DD again someday (God - please let me skip 32DD. There aren't any.), I'm still not sure how people manage to buy a band size up and just take it in. Maybe I'll figure it out someday.

Rules for bra shopping:

I have two breasts, not four and not one.
My breasts are breast shaped, not mushroom shaped. (DD does not = a stretchy fabric over a C-cup underwire)

I occasionally wish there was a better/easier way to measure breast cup "volume". You know, like a plastic "measuring cup"... maybe the lip would fold back and there would be markings inside... the less you fold back, the bigger the volume of breast!

It's all very well for them to say measure yourself here, here, here, and you get your size but when you have a bra sitting in front of you that is not labeled, how the heck can you tell what volume of breast will fit in it??

I wonder if I can patent my invention...

All I have to say is....

Ahahahhaa...yeah right. I wish Lane Bryant would start selling bases to costumers...to find a REAL D/DD costume cup is like winning the lottery.

Which is why I make bras for dancers. I had this problem. I'm a 34DD and getting a costume to fit the width of my boobs is practically impossible. I get so sick of costumes being catered for small narrow breasted birds.

I wish Bravissimo would make make bases for costumes. I wear a 34G and that is not the same as taking a 38DD and making the back smaller. Two brasizes may share the same underwire size, but a large cup needs depth to expand to the front. Otherwise they will be pushed up and widened and start taking over the whole upper body in an obscene way.

Perhaps you could sell bras by the litres they could contain - like they do rucksacks.

I have difficulties because I am the smallest size bra but I am a C cup, so either the cups are too big or the straps are too loose :S

I have a variety of bras, ranging from my trusty 30 F shock absorber (I was in denial about that one for a looooong time) to my 30 E daybra. I am not a terribly skinny woman, and my chest is medium sized really - but in a bizarre twist of fate, the smallest place of my body is where the 'empire line' bit just where the bra goes around your middle/back. The smaller the backsize goes the larger the cupsize goes. I'm always at a loss as to what this translates to in bellydance costume speak. But what I DO know is that IT'S NOT AA/A/B cup with the padding removed.

THIS is why I am now looking at getting a costume custom-made for me. I'm scared that the cost is going to be way higher than a non-rich amateur like myself should spend. If I were a pro and got money for dancing, it would eventually pay for itself. As it is, though, it's a money hole!

But my teacher has recommended a costumer who's apparently GREAT for bustier chicks (I'm a 36DD with 36 inch at the widest point hips. Try finding an off-the-rack that works for that!), so I'm going to see how it goes...

Hi Anahit -
All of my costumes have had to be custom made since I have narrow hips...
Good news is I have costumes from many different vendors & they can do it but you just need a lot patience...

I have never found an "off the rack" costume that fit. If the cups fit you can wrap the rest of the top around your ribcage twice over & the hips are usually well over 44" (dosen't work when the widest part of your hips are 37")

If you go w/ an Egyptian vndr - stress your real bra size (I wear a size 7 bra in egyptian costumes & I'm a true DDD). For my Sim moda & Topkapi costumes - I had to send a bra cause they really had trouble until I did...

Good luck!

You know, I've been thinking about this for a long while now, and I swear I'm going to do it the next time I sell a costume bra:

1. Line costume bra cup with cling film, waxed paper, or aluminum foil.
2. Pour in dried (note: dried!) beans to fill cup. I'm thinking small white or black beans or French lentils for the most precise measurement.
3. Pour legumes from bra cup into measuring cup, record volume, include in ad.
4. Buyer does same with own well-fitting bra to determine whether it's a match.

Voila! An accurate, reproducible, even metric-convertible volume measurement. Circumvents variations in cup-size definitions across manufacturers, bra styles, and international borders. Doesn't tell you a thing about cup shape, of course, but pictures help with that.

So what do you think, ladies? Wanna start a boobie revolution?

Actually, underwire size + lentil volume would totally work!

What would also be nice is a vendor selling mix and match bras and belts in silver/gold and maybe one or two popular shades. If the style of the pailettes and beading was similar enough, you could pick a bra and belt in a size/shape that works for you.

It's kind of like mix&match bikini's, you can pick a fullcup, plunge or halterneck top and get a straight or v-shaped belt. Then you can combine it with different skirts, veils and sleeves.
