Breast Augmentation

What are your thoughts?

I have been thinking about getting a boob job for a while. I am completely flat chested, always have been. I don't want something huge, I just want to have an hourglass figure (my hips are big and my waist is tiny, so my top right now looks really weird). Belly dance is my full time job and I feel that the body is a very important part.

Since this would be a big decision I just want to know what people think about it. If you have had one please let me know, was it worth it?

Your profile/bio states that you are currently 17 years old. My personal advice would be to not make that decision at this point in time. You still have several years left in which your breasts may continue in their early adult growth period. My daughter grew a whole cup size between the ages of 17 and 18. I believe this early adult growth period can last until some time between 21 and 25. (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that age range, I am sure.)

Also (as one of my Anthropology grad students just pointed out to me) there is an extremely huge percentage of breast tissue growth malformation that occurs when breast ugmentation is done prior to the end of normal tissue development. She indicates that there are a lot of Orange County and Muscle Beach area web sites that show numerous examples of the range of malfornations that occur from early augmentation. I haven't looked for myself yet - her descriptions were graphic enough for me.

I have not had it done. I'm the opposite of you, I have a big chest and narrow hips. I would love to have a figure like yours!

Another advising for waiting.

I changed size around age 20-21 and I just changed size again this year, joy . Not all tops fit anymore But also see how other females in your family have developed. Sometime we follow the same trend, sometimes not.

Here are a couple pieces of advice from someone in LaLaLand:

- Wait until you are well into your 20's before having the procedure performed.

- Find a really good surgeon who will actually LISTEN to you about what it is you want. And one who understands the aesthetic you are going for as opposed to their imposing their ideal of beauty onto you. Interview lots of them. Go with the one who resonates with you.

Personally, being between a D and a DD I don't understand women who voluntarily go that big. A nice C is beautiful and you can still find clothes which fit!

are you planning on having children? do you want to breastfeed? everything changes A LOT after that, so keep in mind it's not just one surgery you'll be having if you get a boob job at 21.

YIKES!

I'm one to talk. I was a 34D at 13 and grew a 34DD at 19. Two children (one when 27 and one when 31, I think) brought me all the way up to a LL (a 36/38 inch ribcage with a 50+ inch chest). It took a drastic reduction of almost ten pounds to save my back and shoulders. My poor daughter is doomed.

The advice about finding a surgeon that resonates with you (actually listens to you and will do what it is you actually want) is good advice. I went with who was supposed to be the best in my immediate area (instead of taking the trip to St. Louis) and did NOT get the nipple placement I'd insisted on that he'd told me I'd have (pointing low and to the outside like normal breasts). Now I've got nipples that continually point towards the ceiling (and slightly inward) as my breasts age and slowly droop out from under the nipples. Even before the natural drooping began the nipples were too high to be able to wear most bedlah available on the market. I can actually find bedlah that fit (finally), but I can't use them because I'd need at least another 4 to 6 inches of coverage in most instances (if not more) to make the bra anything but a balconette.

I am 24 years old and have the same body type you do. I used to HATE my chest (or lack thereof). I'm not completely flat, but I'm also not even an A. But I got used to them, and I must tell you, the overwhelming majority of men like them really small. Ironically. As for costumes, I've become an expert in padding, and no one ever knows that my chest is fake when I'm performing-- not even me. I would refrain from getting surgery. I think a small chest is always an asset.

Ditto on this.:)

I have 3 friends who had augumentation done and are perfectly happy with the results.
I think I can adress their success to both the fact that they knew exactly what they wanted,
and that the surgeons that did the job really listened to and were honest in their answer to their every question.
(No one of these did it for job reasons.)

Search out forums for plastic surgery patients, there may be a wealth of info there.

It is a wise decision to wait until you are fully developed,my own experience were a *total change* of the bosom between the age of 16 to 18.

I went up a cup size at 18, and not due to weight gain! (I actually lost five pounds at the same time.)

I was totally flat chested at age 17 (A cup). My most recent bra purchase was a 36D and I am within normal weight. In fact I just lost 10 lbs and expected to buy a size smaller bra but instead had to go up a cup size, so its not just a matter of increases with overall body weight.

I say don't do it.

Itty Bitty Titty Brigade Unite!

But if you must, then wait at least 10 years. Small breasts can be attractive and I agree with the other ladies, you never know what size you'll end up with anyway without augmentation.

At 17 I think I wore a 34 wishful B, but by the time I was 21 that was a 34 DD, so I would definitely wait and see how your body changes as you finish maturing physically. :)

One of the loveliest dancers I personally know is in her mid-20's and is "completely flat-chested;" really, truly, and she has a nice rounded tummy and likewise butt. She wears A cup costume bras with padding. This has not detracted in any way from her popularity as a dancer. Audiences adore her, men as well as women. She dances with confidence, grace and emotional expression and this is what they love to see. In addition, the freedom from breast weight to support allows her all sorts of great costume top options not available to others. There are those who will tell you a "real belly dancer" must have a certain body shape, but they are thinking in stereotypes and speaking in ignorance.

Ahhhh, to be a small b cup again would be nice because it would mean the end of ugly, plain bras (imo they make such cute bras for smaller cups) an they wouldn't get in the way all the time. Big cup gals, were you ever in a restaurant and have the table up so high that when you reached for your drink you found your boobs in your food? That stain on your shirt afterwards. Argh! How embarasing. No sweetie, you don't want to be one that everyone asks behind your back, "Are those fake?"

Okay, one note here: they now have implants which are designed to fall more naturally. In other words they move. I know several women who have been augmented due to Breast Cancer and they definitely do not look as thought they have a rack.

My sister - a natural DD - used to tend bar. One of her regulars, a cosmetic surgeon, asked her where she got her breasts. Her answer: I grew them myself. His response: Good job.

I think one of the wonderful things about belly dance is that someone doesn't need a perfect hourglass bod to be amazingly talented and captivating on stage!

But speaking from someone who has never been more than a B, I say a little padding will do the trick

I agree with the folks who say wait before you do this, you've got plenty of time. And the fashion right now is for a small chest anyway.

As someone who was a 38ddd at 15, I say be thankful for small boobies. Your back and shoulders will be much healthier. And if you have ddds, the darned things sag as you get older.

Definitely wait. I grew 2 cup sizes between 19 and 20, and now some of my D cup bras are getting uncomfortable.

Also, remember that you will have to start your costume collection from scratch, unless you've been buying bras much to big and have been padding them. That will really add to the costs of the augmentation, and as you're a pro dancer, you'll probably need to buy a few straight away.
