"shrug" patterns anyone?

I have a crazy last minute idea to add a shrug to the costumes we are wearing tomorrow night for a stage show. I have stretch velvet, and I want the shrug to go over the shoulders and down part of the forearm with a tight sleeve look, to finish off the top of the costume. I know I've seen shrug patterns posted on Bhuz before... anyone remember who or where? I don't have enough time for a lot of guesswork.....

I think they are just a rectangle of fabric, and each end is sewn into a tube?

A rectangle will work. There are nice shrug patterns to be found in the "accessories" bit in most pattern books - I am pretty sure Vogue and Butterick both have them.

Shrug instructions

I have a good answer for this one:
Threads Sew Stylish Magazine Subscribe Page
All the instructions you need to make their shrug you can have in minutes and then you can modify it for your version. Easy.

Guess I should add that this is a page to subscibe to their web offers, not to the magazine! Also easy to unsubscribe to when you've got the pattern.

Yes, take a rectangle of fabric long enough to reach from where you want it to come on one arm, across your shoulders behind the neck, and down to the comparable length on the opposite arm. The width should be at least a bit bigger than the circumference of your arm at its widest point, but wider is usually a bit better.

Fold it in half to make a tube, right sides together. Stitch each end from the edge in toward the center - the seam should be long enough to go from the bottom edge of the seam to within a few inches of the armpit. Hem any edges that need it. Turn right side out. Add any decorations desired.

I was talking "shrugs" Tuesday afternoon with some dance-mates! I'll be trying a couple this weekend.
