L. Rose trumpet skirts--how to measure?

(I could swear I've seen a thread on this before, but couldn't find it...)

I've decided I must have my own L. Rose trumpet skirt. I remember some discussion of how to measure for it so you get what you want (i.e., right length, not too slim/not too tight) and thought I would access the collective Bhuz wisdom before setting about ordering.

Can anyone help a first-time-trumpeter?

(Thanks, and apologies in advance if this is a repeat!)

I measure my upper hip, where I want the skirt to lie, and add 2 inches, lower hip, same + 2 inches, and I add 3 inches to the length, 'cause my booty will take up some length. The other thing you might want to consider is that Lora probably has a pattern that she works from, in mine, the thigh area seems wider (I'm naturally slim there, although most women aren't, I hate it!) so she adds some width to that. i like the way it looks it on me, so I haven't said anything, but if you stray from the norm, you might want to mention it and brainstorm with her.

I just gave her my regular measurements. I am , unlike Kina, EXTREMELY pear shpaed. The skirt fits my booty fine, but is a little loose at the top hip... possibly L thought I mismeasured to get the large difference between butt and waist, because she asked me if I was really sure when I read it over the phone to her.

For length, I ordered normally wear 39-40" and ordered 42". I am 5'9". If I were to do this again I might go down to 41". I wish the pie wedges reached higher up on the leg. I had a chance to compare my skirt with one made for a dancer of average height. I think everybody gets the same wedge size; rather than it being proportional to length.

Hope that helps a little. The skirts are beautiful.

*Sigh* I think you're lovely, Zari! I also think she cuts the slit in proportion. on the ones that were custom made for me, she cuts it about 5 inches above the knee. I bought one from Tanya (who's taller than I am) and the slit is higher. I also prefer the deluxe trumpets because the extra gore in the back gives your legs more freedom.

Thank you very much for your advice! Lotus, like you, I'm quite the luscious pear, so I think I'll have someone take proper measurements and just give her a call to discuss.
