Where do I find beads for fringe?

I want to add scattered fringe to the skirt of a costume I just got but I'm not sure where to get the neads? I want to do something similar to whats in the picture below. Help?

Also, what would be the best thread for this project? I have quilt thread, is that strong enough?

Button thread! It's nice and strong. It looks like a mix of seed beads, tubular beads or bugle, and some larger flashy stuff. I bought a bunch of beads from Cartwright's sequins and beads Cartwright's Sequins, Beads, Buttons & Glitter
I like their seed beads.

I'm not sure exactly what they have...but I buy lots of stuff from artbeads.com
they have free shipping (with no minimum purchase) and you can buy individual beads...so its nice to make sure they will work before you purchase a lot of them.

swarovskis are cheap there too!

I buy from Fire Mountain Gems. And I like to use Upholstery thread, and if that doesn't match, I use the topstitch or button thread.
