Re: December diet thread

Oy. Well, if not for the cold I'm dealing with I'd have been to the gym all this week, to counteract a 24th and 25th of wanton indulgence. As it is I'm drinking a metric f**kload of tea with sugar substitute and--occasionally--brandy, and that is my most significant intake this week. Along with a diet of eggs, dairy, greens, and whole grains.

It's not healthy, exactly, but since I'm too sick to exercise it's the best I can do right now. I will affirm that I have at least not *gained* anything since Christmas, and at the moment, that's A-okay with me.

Re: December diet thread

I have no idea right now how much I've gained. I'd say probably about 3 pounds. I was maintaining until around my birthday and then through yesterday. Now sitting in airports I've been having drinks and bad food. Maybe I can send United Airlines my Jenny Craig bill since their effing delays and cancellations have kept me cooped up for 12 hours.

grrrrrr.

I have a Jenny appointment on Monday. I'm looking forward to climbing back on the wagon and getting the last 10 (okay, now 13) pounds off!!!

yay 2008!

Re: December diet thread

My little bit of input...

Try weight training. Muscle mass, as it grows, requires more calories to maintain and you will not, I repeat, will not, become overly muscular by lifting weights. You will actually seem to gain weight, but that is because muscle weighs more than fat. Weight training plus stretching, like yoga or regular stretching, is a great regimen, if you care to do it. Some people don't like lifting weights because it can be tedious.

One of the best regimens I tried was Body-for-LIFE (not to be confused with the Diamonds' Fit for Life). It did not require hours and hours at the gym. In 12 weeks I noticed significant tone and it was easier to follow. Just 20 minutes a day of either aerobic activity alternated with weight training and 1 day of rest and to eat whatever you wanted.

For sweet cravings (from my macrobiotic guru), try a sweet vegetable tea, which you can drink any time of day. It is very balancing and calming to drink. Dice cabbage, onion, carrot, and either dried daikon or winter squash. Boil with 4 times the amount of water for 3 minutes, then simmer for 20. Drain, and drink. You can keep the excess in a thermos and drink it throughout the day.

If you're hypoglycemic, like me, you want to eat foods that do not tighten your pancreas, like baked goods, chips, all that delectable stuff. Whole grains is an excellent food, as it provides complex carbyhydrates and contains natural fats that help you feel full.

I struggle with these things daily, so I can empathize. Continue to be kind to yourself and stay positive and busy. That is the best way to keep your mind off of food. Of course, as far as emotional/stress eating, I can't even FIND my comfort foods here so I'm bouncing off the walls trying to figure out what I can do!!

Re: December diet thread

My thing is the willpower not to eat what everyone else is eating at work. That is a struggle. So far so good. I just can't end up with Diabetes. No thank you.

Great suggestions on snack and on making correct food choices. Bellydancing also helps my way through it.

I feel you! I'm so easily swayed when that stuff is within mouth range (or in my house). I want to eat it all in one sitting to "get rid of it." Haha, nice logic there!

Re: December diet thread

I'm doing OK.

I'd actually surpassed my goal by about 4 pounds, but then put 6 back on just in the last 2 weeks -- I'm positive that's *mostly* water retention due to my cycle and all the salty starchy holiday crap, though.... I think I need a few days before I can take a weight reading that 'counts.'

Re: December diet thread

I'm doing very badly at the moment. I have indulged for the entire christmas period on chocolates and treats, and last night I had some chocolate baklava. I think these things have a million calories in each. :-(

Re: December diet thread

My indulgences were mostly booze related. Yesterday sitting in the Reno Airport, I played video poker at the bar (won $200!) and drank 2 giant bloody marys. yum yum. I also lost my 200$ before I left and then some. Of course, that's gambling.

Then at the airport in SFO where I was delayed 7 HOURS - SEVEN! (I could have driven home in less and should have but I was horribly sick with a cold) I drank a giant beer and ate a nice greasy panini. Is it feed a cold? cuz I sure did.

All in all when I stepped on the scale this a.m. to torture myself, I only gained two pounds. yay. I'll have that bloat off by Jenny weigh in tomorrow.

I've totally lost my appetite today as opposed to yesterday when I was ravenous and thirsty despite my cold.

I started my diet today! yay! I already feel better, but my mom is coming into town tomorrow and I'm afraid it will mess me up.

Re: December diet thread

I was great, maintaining at 177 until this past weekend.

I've had 2 days at 179-180 since visiting my Father and having a Seafood extravaganza, so I think the re-gain is real. bummer.

At least the temptation is gone, we managed not to bring home large quantities of chocolate, so I (hopefully) can get back on the losing track.

I *love* weight training for sculpting my figure, I just haven't forced myself to start it up again. It's strange. I really like lifting once I'm started, but getting started is like pulling teeth for me. one more reason I'm a strange duck I guess
