December diet thread
I'm tired and hungry, and amazed at how little food 1500 calories seems like some days. I've eaten 1300 so far and haven't taught my dance class yet. I'm sure I will be hungry enough when I get home that 200 cals won't do it.
To make matters worse, I am plateaued. I have been exercising daily for the past two weeks, and eating very healthy, plenty of protein and veggies, logging my food, and trying to be extra accurate in measuring serving sizes, etc. I should be running over a 500 calorie deficit per day, which should be resulting in about a lb per week lost, but I have lost nothing in the past 2-3 weeks. I have had my metabolism tested so I do have a fairly accurate idea of what I should be burning in calories every day. The numbers just aren't adding up.
I can't remember the last time I ate anything sweet, or fried. Oh, yeah, Tedi and I split one chinese lunch last week and I had <gasp> one crab rangoon. That was the highlight of my month.
This would suck alot less if I was losing weight.

Re: December diet thread
This may seem silly but you might not be getting enough fat and calcium in your diet. When you restrict to 1500 calories your metabolism will slow down in order to preserve body fat ( survival mechanism) If you add omega 3 fatty acids to your diet you may notice you start to lose weight again. Same with adequate calcium intake ( a lot of women cut out dairy when they diet)
Sometimes you actually need to eat more calories ( gasp) for a week and then cut back again. Just some helpful hints. I lost 10 lbs after adding an omega 3 supplement and a CLA supplement.

I take purified fish oil and krill supplements when I think of it, eat olive oil often, and oh, I get plenty of fat even without fried food. I am hypoglycemic so I have to moderate carbs so more calories go to protein and fat. I'm eating about 30% fat, 30% protein, and 40% carbs. Carbs come from veggies, moderate fruit, moderate complex carbs. I eat 5 times per day, each meal or snack has protein, carb and fat.
According to fitday, I'm getting all the major minerals and vitamins, on average.
I seem to be doing everything right.

Re: December diet thread
Well I was down over a pound and a half today and at a new low, so perhaps I'm still losing consistently and its just lost in the normal fluctuations.

Re: December diet thread
Sedonia,
I seem to do best when I vary the calories--1500 one day, 1700 the next, 1400, etc. And sometimes after I fall off the bandwagon and have some ice cream or a couple of cookies, I start dropping pounds. So I am trying to make sure that I have a treat day every once in a while. And as the dietitician I see says, savor those calories. So when i do have a treat day I make sure it is something really good and not junk.
I am trying to stay about where you are with 30-30-40. The Zone Diet sort of thing.

Re: December diet thread
Well, I weighed in today...I gained 2 ounces, which is nothing too major. I'm pre-menstrual, so its probably just water weight.
No worries though. I'm buying more carrots and hummus tonight or tomorrow, and cutting back on the cookies! (My sister made homemade cookies!!!! She's a meanie!)
I feel like I've hit a plateau though...you know? I can't seem to get past 191, and I'm TWO POUNDS away from losing 10 pounds. TWO stinking POUNDS! I have to do something to get over this hump.

Re: December diet thread
We got in the MOST luscious box of chocolates at work yesterday. *groan*
It sits and taunts me, it does.
I was good though and savored only one piece verrrrrrry slowly with a cup of coffee. I honestly don't feel bad about one piece of dark chocolate. Especially since dinner was light - homemade chicken soup! (No noodles, only a bit of brown rice in it and all the fat skimmed off the stock beforehand.)

Re: December diet thread
Somehow, despite Thanksgiving, I have managed to lose 2-3 pounds these past 2 weeks. For the past two days, the scale has read 139, so I may have broken the 140 mark! I have been really diligent about my caloric intake and watching what I eat (except for Thanksgiving and last Sunday, when hubby and I watched a movie and snacked on Moose Munch and chips and salsa!!) and I have been pounding away on the elliptical! I think I probably look like a madwoman on it! I am thinking I can hit 135 without getting the skinny look that I want to avoid. Oh and a size 6 Merona brand skirt from Target fit, but I bought the 8 so it would sit at my hips instead of my waist!!

Re: December diet thread
That's great Damiena! 135 is my goal weight also, and I'm hanging around 143 right now. My goal by Jan 1 is 139.9 -- I just want to break the 140 mark! (pics in my gallery were all taken around ~155 lbs)
I think we have a similar body type. Which of course will come in handy when you decide to sell that teal and rhinestone costume....

Re: December diet thread
ugh - i traveled all week and ate like a pig. the big problem with traveling for work and being in meetings all day with snackables. Plus I always eat badly while I travel - particularly across country when I'm thrown out of whack with time zones.
I think I gained 2 pounds. Starting tomorrow it's back on the wagon big time. I can still lose 5 pounds by the end of the month when I go to my cousin's wedding. that's my yet again new goal! what would I do without setting them and revising them? :)

Re: December diet thread
When I think of the 4 hour workouts and 1200 calorie diets that those people do on Biggest Looser, and then they get on the scale to have lost 2lbs or none at all, I dont feel so bad.
Im struggling right now not eating anything with gluten (which is in almost everything). Im also getting the sneaking suspicion that I have a dairy allergy to top it off. So im being kind to myself about the weight. I want to move towards less of a processed food diet and more towards fresh foods. It should be pretty simple because all I will be able to eat basically is meat and veggies.
Well...at least I can still have my coffee with soy milk. But the mochas....cries.

Re: December diet thread
I just need to take a moment to publicly love on my hubby. I know this will sound silly, but for the past two days, Mike has cut up a grapefruit for me and left it in the fridge for my breakfast. I love grapefruit, but I hate sectioning the halves, so he has done it for me. Like I said, I know it's such a small, silly thing, but it shows me that he's thinking about me.

Thanks ladies. :)
Well, Weight Watchers is a beautiful thing when you actually follow it. lol I think what has been helping is when I use my points toward more healthy food, like hummus and carrots...drinking more water...plus, the last few weekends, I've been doing a lot of dancing. Oh, and cutting out fast food! That is my biggest problem with gaining weight...its the "Oh, I have to run here and there and here after work, I'll just swing through McDonalds for dinner."...well, now I keep WW 2 point bars in my car, so I can snack on a little something and then go home and eat.
:) I'm getting nervous about Christmas though...we've already got a ton of chocolate in this office...and they're bringing in more everyday...chocolate is my weakness!!!!!
:)
