Serious sparkles
So I got hired to be a snow queen performer at the Yahoo Xmas party this weekend (which sounds glamorous, but really all it means is that there will be TONS of amazing food around, and I can't eat any of it because I'm the hired help! Poo!), and I was told to wear a sh*t ton of body sparkle. Does anyone know of a good brand (nothing too pricey) of body glitter/sparkle that I could pick up? I'm talking bling bling, not body shimmer powder or anything. Any ideas?

Re: Serious sparkles
I haven't' tried it myself, but I heard about one..Nyx body glitter.
Here is the link I found it on. I was told about it not too long ago..it's supposed to be really blingy.
Nyx Body Glitter - J-Trading
Let me know if you try it how it works.

Re: Serious sparkles
Go to the crafts store. Find some fine glitter. Buy it. Put some in you hand. Add body lotion. smear it on.
Another option is a spray in body glitter (I can't remember the name) which you can get at the drug store. Do layers.

This is what I'm in the market for at the moment. I lagged and I don't really have time to order anything for it to get here on time (saturday), so I have to be able to find the sparkles locally. I've been wondering if spray glitter would be safe to spray on my skin...anyone ever tried this?

Re: Serious sparkles
a few years ago I was at a bellydance comp at a casino, and between sets we hung out in a bar and watched a cute country music/showgirl revue. after the show, we dancers chatted shop with the singers (and later on they came to watch us dance! ha!). one thing I asked them about was their fab body glitter. they said it was from tony & tina. just did a quick online search and didn't find much :( but if you come across it in your travels, give it a shot.
eye candy glitter can be used on the body. can't get much more glam than that!

Re: Serious sparkles
i think tony & tina is out of business...could be wrong though. You could visit a costume supply store or somewhere that sells Ben Nye - check out this glitter:
Theatre House: Aqua Glitter
Theatre House: Sparkle Colors

Re: Serious sparkles
It's more of an intense shimmer than all-out glitter, but Urban Decay makes a good one that comes in colors and flavors. (The white is marshmallow).
You can buy it at Ulta.

Re: Serious sparkles
Craft store glitter. Stick it on with KY jelly. Really, I learned that trick from someone here on Bhuz and it's brilliant!!!
Oh, and if you have to be outdoors in the cold, maybe you could use the self-warming KY. hee hee.

Re: Serious sparkles
With craft glitter, try to get the iridescent kind. Too much glitter with the wrong kind of shimmer can make you look like you're covered in weird metallic crud.
I've also mixed gliter with aloe vera gel.
Maybe use eyelash glue to put on some flat backed (small) rhinestones as accents?

Re: Serious sparkles
I think the craft store glitter is good. Put on lotion and pour it over you, in the shower (water off of course). Some will come off but a GOOD potion will stay. (Just be perpared for it to be every place. Of couse you could do it in the dressing room, after all they did ask you to!

Re: Serious sparkles
I think I'll do the craft store glitter....but the KY jelly....does it dry eventually, or does it stay a little gooey? If/When it does dry, the glitter doesn't fall off, right?

Re: Serious sparkles
just don't put the metal craft store glitter near your eyes...it has sharp edges but it should be fine everywhere else.
please take pictures of your glitteryness...i love looking at sparkles.

Re: Serious sparkles
I got a couple of different types from the Claire's Etc. and Icing by Claire's stores in my local shopping mall. One of them was a hairspray type and works well on the body as well as the hair.

Re: Serious sparkles
Sephora: Make Up For Ever Glitter: Shimmer & Glitter
Make Up For Ever glitter comes in a bunch of colours and is ok to use on the face as well as the body. They say to apply it with water, but I think baby oil, moisturizer, or KY might work better.

Re: Serious sparkles
Do the KY and aloe vera gel dry or absorb eventually, or do they stay slick? I've bought some cheapo glitter gels (NYC or Wet & Wild, I think) before, but since they never really dried I always worried that they'd get all over my costumes. I'd love to try the options suggested here if they're safer that way.
I really love Ben Nye's iridescent glitters for the face. The Makeup For Ever ones are nice, too, and neither brand is super-expensive. Craft store glitter applied with lotion works well on the bod -- the lotion absorbs but the glitter stays put, in my experience.

Re: Serious sparkles
Just be careful not to get it in your eyes! It is sooo painful. Even the stuff that is meant for your eyes can scratch you. I couldnt even open my eyes for a day afterwards.
Finals week, scratched cornea, statistics test...
Somehow a "glitter injury" doesnt carry much weight. Luckily my professor was understanding and I had an A average.
That said, I think the craft store stuff is great. Also I suggest the irridescent stuff over silver or white. The transluscency is pretty and still very dramatic.
