Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
Ugh! I tried Dura Lash semi-permanent eyelash extensions last week for a show and because I simply LOVE long, think, black lashes. My natural lashes aren't, or should I say "weren't" bad, but I don't like all the clumping mutiple coat of mascara leave. So I tried this lash kit.
My lashes looked amazing after a few applications of the various lengths provided in the kit and they were far more comfortable than falsh lash strips. I was so excited.
But, after about 5 days, my right lashes started to fall off, and that left me with a really weird look. So, I kept reapplying the ones that were falling off whenever I could catch them.
This morning I decided to just use the remover provided in the kit since the right eye just kept shedding lashes. I followed the directions exactly and . . .
OMG - I have almost no natural lashes left!!!!! It is horrible. Even mascara won't fill the tremendous gaps in lashes I now have.
So . . . word to the wise, beware of the semi-permanent lash extension kits unless you really want to be permanently applying these lash extensions.
Will my lashes grow back and how long does it take???

Oh no, that's awful! I'm sorry that happened to you. Is there a customer care number or something so you can contact them?

Oh! I'm so sorry that happened to you Vahana! I'm actually surprised they have "do it yourself kits". I actually apply them for "Extreme Lashes" but it's a professional application process. You have to be a medical professional or certified beautician to go thru the training simply for that reason.
Give your natural lashes some time to grow back and I would obstain from applying mascara for the time being. Depending on where the damage occured (I'm not sure how you applied your's- we apply our's directly to the clients natural lash so that there is no ontact with the eyelid or follicle) you may or may not have sustained permanent damage....unfortunately only time will tell. Your eyelashes grow at approximately the same rate as the hair on your head so that should give you a little idea.
I'm also not familiar with the adhesive you used because we only use derma bond...which is what we use to close surgical wounds and lacerations in the hospital.
I would never never never recommend doing semi permanently lashes yourself. Just using a false strip is way better if you can't have the semi-permanents professionally done. It's irresponsible of the company to even put something like that out. I do it professionally and it would be impossibe to do my own because the eyes must stay closed at all times and it's one synthetic lash to one natural lash- very tedious which is why it is sooo expensive.
Good luck and more than likely they will grow back

It sounds horrible. Would wearing strip lashes hurt her real lashes while they are growing out?

For at at least now I would hold off so that adhesive isn't getting into the possibly already damaged follicles.....

I just wanted to say hang in there, I'm sure it will grow back. Think of your leg hair, how difficult is that to get rid off.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
thats terrible!
i think they will probably grow back fine if they were just pulled out.
a lot of people find the jan marini eyelash conditioner actually makes their eyelashes grow better. it is quite pricey, but my relative sells it in her spa so if you want some pm me and i will get you a better deal.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I went thru a big eyelash loss when trying one of those heated eyelash curlers, and got really scared although after a few weeks they grew back.
Regarding eyelash growing products,i tried the Jan Marini one for quite long time without significant results worth the steep price of the product.
However i have always had excellent and FAST results/lash grown using Mavala Eyelash conditioner, with a reasonable price tag:
Mavala Eye Care - Double-Lash Eyelash Conditioner

Just adding my sympathy and wishing I had advice to give. I guess I'd probably tell everyone I had an "eye issue" and wear dark glasses for a few weeks...

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
Oh no! I've been interested in lash extensions myself. I wonder if you were allergic to the substance? It seems odd that it would cause such a reaction. I wonder if anyone else who has used the same product had the same reaction? This is absolutely terrible. I'm so sorry.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I've had them applied at the salon where I get my gel nails done .... just once for a special show. I loved the look and they lasted nicely for about a week. Problem is, they start to come off in little clumps which can leave you looking kind of strange until you get them all of....I started to pull on what was left, and I think I might have lost a few of my own as well. The lady told me to just "let them fall off by themselves", so I didn't try to apply any kind of remover. And it's expensive ...... $30 for the short-lived, one week or so ones, and about $100 for the ones that last a month.....so the gig better be worth it, haha!!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I'm sure your lashes will grow back - as long as there is nothing else wrong. But if you have any other symptoms like redness, swelling, itching, puffiness, etc please see a medical professional right away! Your eyesight is precious and you don't want to loose it due to an infection or bad allergic reaction!
My own personal eyelash experience - in the middle of Oct I danced at a Witches Ball. I wore some wild copper and black, upper and lower fake eyelashes. I'm terrible at putting lashes on, so my girlfriend did it for me and went a little overboard with the eyelash glue. On the way home my eyes itched sooo bad I HAD TO peel the lashes off and quite a few of my own lashes came along with them. Yeah, looked pretty bad for a while, but they all grew back.

OMG!! Are you kidding me? This is something that beautician's have to be certified for? Then why the heck do they sell this over the counter for $9.99!
I think I will call the company and complain. Maybe it is a new product or something. I just happened to be walking through Longs Drugs and spotted it and though, how cool.
Are you sure I shouldn't wear mascara? I cannot stand this look of no lashes. It sounds silly, I know, but I have a thing about loving thick black lashes. But, at this point, I just don't want "bald" eyelids.
This is the worst time of year to have plain eyes!
The good news is that I have no swelling, pain, or redness. The extensions just glued straight onto my own lashes and I tried hard to be careful not to get the glue on my lid.
You are right though, it wasn't easy and now I am thankful that I didn't get glue in my eye or something terrible like that! I had to have my eyes open while I put them on.
Oh well, I guess I could say "what a disaster," but really, since all that resulted was that I look funny, but am still healthy and have my eyesight, I really shouldn't complain, too much.
Thanks for the support everyone and I am going to try one of those eyelash conditioners since I had never heard of that before.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
that's so scary!
I once knew a girl in high school. She was very goth (this was when goth was new!) and something about her was different. We got to be friends and one day she told me what it was that I saw/didn't see that made her look different.
She'd ripped out all of her eyelashes when she was about 3. All of them, top and bottom. They never regrew. Her mom even took her to a dr., but something about doing that to herself when she was so young made them not grow back.
It fit her "look" in high school, but sometimes, when I put on false lashes, I wonder how she deals with it now? Fake lashes daily?
gee...I hope that doesn't freak you out...I'm sure they'll grow back!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I know someone who has been getting the lash extensions professionally applied every month for over a year with no problems. I, too am surprised they sell it in packages for home use.
Talika makes a great lash conditioner called Lipocils. Here are reviews of makeupalley.com ...you might need a (free) membership to see.

Sorry that happened to you! I hope they grow back quickly.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I've heard horror stories about the semi-perm lashes, the self-applied kind -- back when I worked in a beauty supply shop, as a high schooler.
I've also heard of people accidentally attaching strip lashes with the permanent adhesive. *bad* plan! Both kinds of adhesive are usually sold in the same section with similar packaging, so it's an easy error to make.

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I had two friends who, in grade school, pulled out their own lashes as a nervous habit. One did it into adulthood. Theirs always grew out and today you would never know it to look at them. I wish you the best of luck and if I were you, I would not put anything on my lashes for awhile to give the area time to "heal."
Good luck and so very sorry!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
I am so glad you posted this! I am sorry for your experience and hope your lashed come back quickly. I had bought some of the EXACT lashes and adhesives awhile ago and was going to apply them but then I smelled the strong odor from the glue and didn't have the guts to do it! So, I put them away in my drawer and look at them all the time thinking I would do it but now I am just going to throw that stuff out!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
Well I am glad I posted too. I was afraid everyone would think I was crazy putting them on, but I risked posting since I was so freaked out by the results.
Stay with strip lashes, or have a professional apply the extensions. I am glad you are planning to throw out the pack. That is the best choice!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
A friend of mine who was wearing strip eyelashes right along her lashline started losing her own lashes when removing the false ones, so she came up with this method. She applies a thin line of eyeliner just above her lashline and a strip of false eyelashes just above that. The strip is not directly against the lashline, and and she can remove it without taking any natural lashes off. The eyeliner fills in the space between the natural lashline and the "artificial" lash line.
This method takes some practice, but it may work for you while your natural lashes grow back, and you can experiment with different shades of eyeliner and false eyelashes to give you a more natural look.
Good luck!

Re: Lash Extensions ruined my lashes!!!
Oh, thank you Alaira! It is driving me crazy having such drab eyes. Eyelashes really do make a difference! I cannot wait to try the strip lashes with the eyeliner technique. Thanks for the great idea!
