lash conditioner spin off thread
ok, this is a spin off thread from the eyelash extension disaster thread.
hope this is the right place to put it.
i spoke to my relative and she said she would make a bhuz special for the jan marini eyelash conditioner if anyone else wants it besides those who pm-ed me.
it retails for $160 in the spa shops, and the bhuz discount would be $125 plus shipping [it isn't heavy].
i'm not getting anything out of this deal, but wanted to make this available to everyone just to be fair. please pm me or email me if you want some.
[info (at)sabrinabellydancer(dot)com]
no time limit on the discount in case you want to wait until after the holiday spending madness.

Wow, that's a good discount for us Bhuzzers. How long will that supply last?
Thx for doing this!

sure, no problem. i know how important good lashes are :)
she said a tube can last anywhere from 3-6 months depending on how much you apply each night, and if its stored properly in a cool dark place like a medicine cabinet, and don't pump the wand b/c that puts air into the product that dries it out faster [like mascara]

Really? Not even a smidgen of growth? How did you use it? Now I'm wondering if I should even get it.

I was hugely dissapointed specially considering the steep price.I used it the way it read on directions, and if i saw a few lashes teeny-weeny longer that was it.And i'm talking seeing that more than a month after starting.
On the other hand,i had used the Mavala lash conditioner a couple of years before the Jan Marini one and it was instant satisfaction:in less than 2 weeks i was amazed the way i got new lash growth and length.Originally i could only get the Mavala in Europe but sometime ago i found it online and on some beauty products and treatment catalogs. If i remember well the price for each tube is no more than $20.
I tried the Talika Lipocils, too, but did not see any difference.
(By this time you have probably noticed i'm a lash freak )
But then, this is just me and my experience.

Re: lash conditioner spin off thread
ok, i just got off the phone with the jan marini company.
here is what they told me:
the fda will not allow jan marini to use bimatoprost as an ingredient because it constitutes a "medical claim" in a cosmetic product. not because it is dangerous. if it was dangerous, it would not be permitted by the fda as an opthalmic solution.
the jan marini company said they have removed the bimatoprost ingredient from the eyelash product and have replaced it with a prostoglandin which is an approved cosmetic ingredient, making the product acceptable under fda regulations regarding what is medical and what is cosmetic.
according to jan marini, the product was not "seized by the fda" rather they were asked not to sell it because a cosmetic company is not permitted to make medical claims.
the shipment the spa will receive was an order placed this morning from the new stock which does not contain bimatoprost. all product currently on the shelves from previous orders will be returned to the jan marini company, just in case. only the new non-bimatoprost product will be stocked and sold.
it seems to me that is was a legal and fda jurisdictional issue over what is a cosmetic claim and what is a medical claim.
i will get a copy of the letter jan marini is sending to the retailers regarding the whole issue and will post it on my website and make a bhuz link for anyone who cares.
interestingly, doctors are still advocating the use of bimatoprost to treat glaucoma and the fda is ok with that. the insert for the prescription bimatoprost drops does contain the statement "Growth of the eyelashes may also occur".
good looking out sashy!

Yes,it is noted as a drug side effect, the same one on another glaucoma eye solution called latanoprost.
<interestingly, doctors are still advocating the use of bimatoprost to treat glaucoma and the fda is ok with that.>
This IS indeed a medication product(eye drops solution)whose main indication is to treat glaucoma.
The issue comes when a cosmetic makes use of a drug(medication)in its formula because they are not legally authorized for it.
Besides,all drugs,oral,topical,ophtalmic,nasal,otic or otherwise,have side effects.
For more info consult your pharmacist.
