the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
haha...
White New Professionals Fine Belly Dance Costume - (eBay item 120199025768 end time Dec-23-07 02:14:43 PST)
anyone ever bought from here?
Totally not the look I'm going for, but for $50 it might make a nice base! I would want to take off some of the fringe on the bra and add to the design on the bra & belt...
I wonder if they are actually nice pieces?
Any comments?
I have heard the style of bra looks cheap... I agree...but IT IS CHEAP.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
I would strongly expect that "you get what you pay for". If you subtract ebay fees, profit, and cost of materials, there is no chance that the people who made this are fairly compensated, even when one assumes it is low quality; all that is bad karma for a costume.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
i agree...but the funny thing about it is that I would be more inclined to buy it for around $100. The cost makes you wonder what is wrong with the situation!
I am just amazed!

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
I always wonder why costumes have that middle strap....does it serve a purpose, or is it purely decorative? I do not care for the appearance
That aside, you can tell this is a Turkish tourism souvenier costume. Look at the shape of that bra underneath the fringe. A costume malfunction waiting to happen! The quality of the workmanship is reflected in the price

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
I see potential in every costume. I have created almost all of mine from scratch. I am sure that the quality isn't good, but with some TLC and a trip to a fabric store, it has potential. I think it would be a good starter costume, due to the price. The link had a couple of other costumes (a red, a magenta, and others) that seemed more simple and where way cheaper.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
These are typical of what you buy in a Turkish bazaar and you'd pay at least as much as that!
They aren't well displayed on those dreadful mannekins and they sure aren't Pharoanics nor Eman but I have seen a lot worse and if you can get one one for 50$, I am sure with ,as you say, some fringe removal, maybe not too bad. If they are typical Turkish bras, the bra shapes are softer and easier to adjust.
I bought one home for a friend ..it was really pretty and well beaded. She took off a layer of fringe and put her own bra onto the beaded one and it looks really good: A "traditional" Turkish set, teamed up with a good skirt and gauntlets, great for hafla and restaurants.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
I note, as I suspected that it's from India, you pay more than $24 dollars in Turkey and with the postage less than $50!
I have to say I thinkl the brighter colours look better.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
The costumes pictured don't look like India manufactured costumes to me. They are most definitely typical turkish costumes that sell for around 100 dollars each everywhere else. They're unmistakable.
The auction description says that they're made of georgette fabric. The pictured costumes are NOT made of georgette. Though Indian costumes typically are. The discrepancy makes me think that what they're going to send you is not what's pictured, but rather a cheap Indian costume worth 24 dollars.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
So who is going to buy one and report back?
Personally, I think things such as this are good options for student troupes, restaurants (as suggested before) and new dancers.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
they don't sit right on the body. you can see the top edges pulling away. the belt shape/ proportions are weird and diaper-ish imo.
i think it would take so much time and extra materials to make this work, you would be better off buying something of higher quality.
otoh: you might be one of those costume magicians that can create amazing things. if so, why not?
i think you can get something a lot nicer for a little more $. better to have a good quality used bedlah than a poorly fitting new one.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
You couldn't buy just the sequined base for $50. These are, however, being made in India. New Dehli, I believe.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
That bra would never fit right.
Students, troupes, and new dancers are better off going to Lrose and getting an affordable, custom-made skirt and top.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
Well, if they're what's pictured in the photos, then you can't beat that price. They look virtually identical to these even down to the design on the belts:
http://missbellydance.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=1724
Though I can't imagine all those sequins on georgette fabric, which would certainly tear under the weight. The bras on the turkish costumes usually fit surprisingly well (in most cases) and are great troupe or begginer costumes. I've bought many of them for re-sale.
If the India manufactured costumes are made the same way as the turkish costumes and with sturdy material as the pictures seems to indicate, then you can't go wrong for that price.
Regards
Priscilla

I was referring to Turkish Empoium style costumes being great costumes for students, troupes, etc. NOT that THESE particular costumes would work. Without buying one and seeing how they are made, there is no way you could accurately judge.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
I believe it says it has a georgette base and from my experience, georgette shows everything underneath. I have pics of my first bellydance performance in the days when I knew nothing about costumes, and I had bought one of these georgette costumes manufactured in India, little to my knowledge. When a friend saw the pics, he exclaimed, "your nipples are showing through!"
Kind of embarassing. It would probably work if you sew it to a bra, but otherwise will be super flimsy.

Re: the cheapest costume I've ever seen!
Jessedan - there's a local girl who's trying to become a dancer and I help her out with learning (I'm hesitant to call myself a teacher)She recently purchased from Miss Belly Dance and I can tell you that the quality is AWFUL! White base, colored sequins, sparse fringe, cups were asymmetrical, the thread was some sort of plastic-y material the frays if you look at it. The set is super flimsy.

That vendor is in Delhi!
Ermm sorry to report but when you buy that bazaar costume or hip scarf in Turkey, it's likely to have been made somewhere where labour is even cheaper to the required design of the retailer. , making higher profit.
I had this from traders and I dare say it's the same all over.
The Silk Road has been going a long time
Ok you go to Bella and she'll have designed and made it.Where idd she buy the materials..not necessarily in Turkey.
I bought wonderful material in Cyprus where was it made...India?
We go to buy the best and cheapest materials in the UK Where? In the Asian shops...
