Re: I must ask this question...

RakGirl, you are one of the 2-3 time a day-ers!!!! grrrr.... *hugs*

I don't eat animal products or dairy (unless I'm chowing poutine, which is once in a blue blue moon b/c it's so damn good and I make a point to really intentionally enjoy and not feel guilty damn runon sentence) and I normally ascribe to macrobiotic way of eating/living.

You'd think I'd shat more often than a few times a week. ;o/

Re: I must ask this question...

yeah you would think so. but sometimes things affect it. like stress and lack of sleep. i know right now i'm not going 2-3 times a day but i'm also sick so i think that's why. i'm not eating my regular way now because i've been sick. i've even had to strain some. that almost never happens.
have you seen a doctor? or had a colonic?

I don't eat animals, animal products, or dairy (unless I'm eating poutine which is once in a blue blue moon and it's so damn good I allow myself the indulgence and enjoy it with full intention and mindfulness damn run on sentence) and I try as best as I can to eat and live according to macrobiotic principles.

One would think that I could shat more often! ;o/

P.S. LOVE Uncle Sam but it doesn't move my trains...

I don't eat animals, their by-products (unless I'm eating poutine which is once in a very blue moon b/c it's so damn good and I mindfully enjoy every bite damn run on sentence) and, as best as I can, I eat and live according to macrobiotic principles so one would think that I could shat more than I do! ;o/

P.S. LOVE Unk Sam cereal with berries! Still doesn't make my trains go... :'0(

See, I wouldn't.

I spent a month in the desert, at yoga teacher training. We were fed onsite, and we were all put on a vegetarian diet -- no meat, dairy, almost no gluten, no sugar, no caffeine, mostly fresh vegetables and often raw. Fruit for breakfast, lots of water (because we were in the desert.)

Nobody pooped the whole first week. We got plenty of exercise -- 9 hours of yoga a day, plus swimming in the ocean, walking meditation, and climbing the mountains in our time off.

We blamed the lack of privacy in the bathrooms, the heat, everything. But well into the second week, many of us STILL hadn't had a BM. Those who had only had one.

We finally realized that our diets were efficient & didn't contain a lot of waste, and we were actually BURNING most of the food we were eating.

After much (slightly embarassing) discussion, we realized we were all in the same boat, and that no one was having any cramping, discomfort or other symptoms. So we just relaxed & enjoyed the extra free time....LOL.

Re: I must ask this question...

Lauren,

y didn't that new diet make you have a BM in the first few days? shouldn't you have gotten rid of the stuff you ate before getting there?

Re: I must ask this question...

I have Sjogren's Syndrome-an autoimmune disorder that means that my immune system attacks my exocrine glands. That means that if the body depends upon fluid for it, then that system has a problem. Saliva, tears, and, yes, intestinal peristalsis.

Almost debilitating back pain a few years ago finally was diagnosed as another SS symptom-by my rheumatologist after my GP totally messed up. (Long story; he kept insisting that it had to be a muscle strain even while I demonstrated full out backbends. Learn to advocate for yourself!) As a consequence, I now take laxatives daily. BUT (that's kind of a bad pun, isn't it )I can't take fiber! Fiber uses WATER to work-which is the source of my problems.

I use prescription lactulose-a sugar alcohol that flushes water through the intestine. My Dr. also tells me that if I forget my 'scrip, try overdosing on sugar free candy-yes, the sugar substitutes in many of them are sugar alcohols! Look for the "oses"-lactulose, maltolose, etc. If you live near a place that caters to the Atkins diet, that's what goes into their low carb sweets, because the body doesn't recognize these sweeteners as carbs and they get flushed right out.

Just another reminder that there are no one size fits all health solutions!

Kitty

Re: I must ask this question...

Good point about that, too, Kitty! (No one size fits all and be your own health advocate). Both so important...

Re: I must ask this question...

When im really stuck i use super dieters tea.......but when im only stuck a little there is a # of things i do....green tea....oatmeal with xtra fiber like wheat germ in it or bran, berries work too .......then some carrots lot of veggies....a gallon of water over a 1 day period (that always works)...Not necessarlry all of that but I start with the gallon of water and then add all that till I go......It is so irratiating my hubby goes 3 itmes a day like clock work and i go like 3 times a week....it bothers me...so i have to try to stay pretty aware of what is going on...

Re: I must ask this question...

Yeah, what's it with a lot of guys being able to shat so regularly?! I'm envious!!
Do they not hold tension in their bellies like I do?
When I really zone in, I realize that I hold so much tension in my belly! There and in my traps of steel, no doubt. heehee...
Maybe some daily Feldenkrais-type awareness practice of "loosening" and actually relaxing my belly will loosen you know what...

Re: I must ask this question...

I notice guys don't seem to have so much trouble doing number 2 anywhere. I have "safe toilet syndrome" where I can't go in public restrooms or even on vacation sometimes. My hubby can go into the public bathroom anywhere and just go. (I'm sure he is just thrilled I shared that with all of you!!!)

HA! He is kind of proud of that fact, so he might not mind. He never understands why I wait until I get home.

Re: I must ask this question...

i can go anywhere too but sometimes not on vacation. i think that's because of the lack of fiber in my vacation dieting. but if i'm at the mall and have to go, i totally can. I wish i couldn't however bc most of those public restrooms are terrible.

Re: I must ask this question...

WOW. I had to stop myself. I have such dookey stories...

Weighing in...success this morning! What I changed was sipping hot cupfuls of lemon water. And I've been cramming pancrea-tightening baked flour products like there's no tomorrow (those are usually the culprit PLUGGERS) so maybe the hot water helped!

Will keep you posted! Or...maybe not...

I am still getting a lot out of this conversation... ;0)

Where's Jes? She had hilarious constipation stories when she was pregnant. That woman hides nothing.
