I too was happy when I was thin...but I'm happy this way also
except when I get f**ing angry about something like prat unscientific research . Has this been commisioned by MacDonald's or someone who wants to keep our nations stuffing their faces in the hopes the brains will grow with their waistlines?

Re: Curvy Women are Smarter

Oh, how I love pop psychology BS.

Here's an alternative to the Omega-3 theory - fat girls become smart because we have to have SOMETHING to enamour us to prospective mates since we aren't quite so HOTT.

Or, fat girls aren't more IQ intelligent, but more EQ intelligent, because they spend more time socially networking (read: counselling their skinny girlfriends on all the boy-related dramas that the fat girl will never have).

Puh-leez. To be fair, I didn't read the article. Because, you know, learning any more of their undoubtedly SOUND and RIGOUROUSLY SCIENTIFIC research might burst my over-crowded curvy-gal head.

I studied Psychology for four years, btw. I have a piece of paper that says so. Biggest waste of time... EVER.

Re: Curvy Women are Smarter

Here's a far fetched idea - some of the "it's okay to be bigger" and "no, anorexia is not pretty" is finally trickling into the pop culture mentality and they're trying to make it all okay. After feeding us a particular image of beauty for so long, they certainly can't overnight say "fat's okay!"

If we continue to see more trending toward "big is good" in fluffy news bits, then we might see a cultural shift away from skinny archetypes.

Who knows.

Mmmm, getting away from the herion chic and anorexic aesthetics would be nice. I think we're a long way away from general body acceptance, but I agree with you in that I'm seeing more alternative representations now.

I just hate pop psychology pseudo science guff, whatever it's "findings" of the moment are.

Concur 100%.

Why, one has to ask, does a news organization like CNN spend time discussing Britney Spears? Why does anyone spend time on her pathetic trashy life? Just boggles the mind. Hm, okay, now I see having a brain in our rear IS good for something!

Re: Curvy Women are Smarter

I was really happy about the Jennifer Love Hewitt response. They showed her looking like many of us look (or would like to look) in a bikini with some dimples in her thighs and she fought back. Good for her. She didn't apologize. I'm sick of women being objectified and told that they're abnormal if they have any blemishes, dimples or body hair.

Of all the intelligent women in my department, the most terrifyingly intelligent ones are *rail thin*. I wouldn't say they diet to get that way either. One definitely doesn't.

Re: Curvy Women are Smarter

There's a Mark Twain quote on that...I'll see if I can find it.

oops - it's actually - "everbody is ignorant, just about different things." or something like that...close enough :)

Let me have men about me that are fat;
Sleek-headed men and such as sleep o' nights;
Yond' Cassius has a lean and hungry look;
He thinks too much: such men are dangerous.

Mish,

You store your brain in your booty? Personally, I prefer to store my brain in my boobs!
