Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

A while ago someone posted about a good interfacing fabric that could be purchased in bulk.

Was it on ebay?

Anybody remember who posted or does somebody have a link? I cant find the thread.

Thanks!!

Re: Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

I'm sorry I do not have that information.

I can offer you this information: you can use the super heavy duty Pellon (this is what might be on EBay).

You can also use any thick, yucky fabric that doesn't necessarily have to match anything underneath the decorative fabric. This is what I normally do for my handmade costumes, usually with 2 layers of the super heavy duty Pellon as the belt base, or slightly stiffened bra for bra base.

Re: Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

Thanks Azhia!

JoAnn's doesnt carry the heavy stuff anymore and almost all of them have the iron-on stuff which I dont like to sew through, as it junks up the needle.

Wal-Mart has the most excellent heavy duty interfacing for $4.00 a yard but they are phasing out their fabric/sewing dept.

Yes, I have used old stuff also for certain projects but I am super pickey about how I do my foundations for beading! I use regular felt sometimes or the stiffer kind of felt too.

The other stuff that someone posted came a roll of 15-20 yards I think? I think it cost around 40 bucks??

Timtex ™ Interfacing and Stabilizer - Great for Hat Brims and so much more!

Has anybody used this stuff? Is it good?

OMGosh, I went to Hancocks and all they had was the iron on kind and Hobby Lobby doesn't carry the same stuff all the time. I think I got mine from Jo Ann's but it was a long time ago. Thanks for posting the Timtex, I will buy from them in the future.

Re: Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

I've used buckram, I think I got it from a store that had materials to make hats and there are several weights. I'm going to try this heavy twill (like a denim weight) next.

Re: Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

I second both the use of buckram and heavy, ugly fabric ;-)

Personally I stabilize almost everything with heavy cotton duck cloth (some times more than one layer), or on a rare occasion, denim or heavy twill.

Re: Good Foundation Fabric for Beading?

I use buckram sometimes as well. But for heavy beading I prefer something a little thicker and softer, because it is more comfortable. I am ordering some of the timtex to try. Hopefully, it is what I am looking for.

And what is up with all of the fabric stores phasing out regular interfacing?????
