banat susan

Banatsusan posted the pattern. I recommend going to the old bhuz and doing a search for her name...I'll see if I can find it and repost. I couldn't relink to the original thread though I found the reference. I'll send Rosey an email and ask if she can revive it.

Here it is: Alas, I have no pictures: Rosey will have to find the original thread - but here are the instructions:

This was posted last summer by "banatsusan" on this thread: http://www.bhuz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12307

"Okay, for those of you who are wanting to make your own, I started with McCall's M4078 http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4...dresses&page=3

I cut the front on the fold, lowered the front neckline opening, cut the sides straight from the hip down and left the side seams open higher up than what is marked on the pattern. I also raised the shoulder seam so the under arm seam would come up higher under the arm and then left it open between the notches so the dress doesn't pull up when I raise my arms. I didn't cut the sleeve until I was done modifying the dress to fit me (the pattern is for a woven fabric so I ended up taking in the side seams an extra 5/8" on each side) and made the same modifications to the sleeve--ended up taking an inverted pleat in the sleeve cap to take up the excess fabric there from raising the shoulder seam.

I hand beaded the neckline and collar plus a sequin bead border outside of the beaded edge on the neckline and a bead sequin edging on the sleeve hem. I beaded the paillete edging with silver, yellowish green, lt., med., and dark blue pailletes of various sizes with the intention of having it look somewhat like a necklace when finished. Used the same pailletes on the edges of the slits and also beaded an edging. I used a 4 way stretch lycra fabric that was designed more for dress making than the sports wear/swimsuit type lycras. It has very thin gold metallic stripes going through it as well as the various shades of blue. Doesn't bag/sag/wrinkle.

Very nice fabric, as I recall about $10/yard. I'd estimate you could make the same dress for around $50. On top of that cost, I bought the hip scarf and a turq. bra which I beaded on the edges to match the dress. This was a trial and error type project, if you know what I mean, turned out to be fairly easy. I would use the same pattern again if I was going to make another one. It was very easy to modify. If you have other questions let me know, I'd be happy to answer them!"

"banatsusan" used to have a photo of herself in it as her profile pic. Susan, if you're out there, we'd love to see it again!!!! It looked a LOT like the Eman version. I'm still looking for fabric that would work for it.

Another great bhuzzer pattern adaptation

Before we lose it again - someone (Kenya I think) made this dress as a BD dress in velvet and it looked gorgeous:

I put up a photo of our success with Banatsusan's instructions on this thread a couple weeks ago:

Here's a link to the "old" Bhuz with the first post about the costume:
