Know these Emans?

I'm looking for a new costume different from my usual favorites which tend to have lots of fringe and super sparklies. New costume!!!! Woooooo!

Does anyone own or has anyone seen in person these Eman designs I see on Dahlal?

Secret of the Sphinx
Under the Sun
Hollywood
Pharoahs Fantasy
Pharaonic queen
Azura
Silver Streak

Any impressions on the look or performance of the designs? Any other Emans or other designers recommended for a sleek costume?

Thanks!

Hi! I have Under the Sun and Hollywood (if that's the light blue Eman dress--I'm not sure that's the name, but I think so). They are lovely costumes and flow beautifully. I find Eman's costumes very comfortable -- the bras fit me well (I'm a B). I used to have a very hard time with Egyptian bras, they never fit properly--but Eman bras are great. If you're looking for ultimate sleek, that would be Sahar Okasha .... but ...sigh....it takes a couple of credit cards or a long layaway to snatch one of those.....I've heard a rumor that wearing a Sahar can change the way you dance--you feel so wonderful, it takes you to a higher level. I have one on layaway now--Once I pay it off & dance in it, will post my experiences! Naiya-Hayal

Hiya. :)

I am custom ordering the Azura (with a couple slight changes to make it unique) after trying it on at Rakkasah and finding that the skirt/belt was a hair too snug and the bottom was a couple inches too long.

I tried on several Eman's that day (I eventually purchased the Egyptian Lotus) and my biggest concern was with some of the bra shapes and construction. They're very minimal, thin straps... deep plunges.. that sort of thing... which in and of itself doesn't bother me too much but might be an issue for others. More than that, though, there's just something about them that kind of bugs me from a sturdiness standpoint. Maybe it's the fact that they are not all one piece. I'm not sure.

I fully admit that I am picky as hell about costumes but I thought it was worth mentioning. If you can, try to see one in person.

Of the ones that I tried on that day.. there also seemed to often be a discrepancy in the top vs bottom size. Like, a perfectly fitting bottom with a too small bra or vice versa. I have a pretty small ribcage but I can step into a Pharoanics or Abla or whatever and if the top fits the bottom fits... you know what I mean? With a custom order that shouldn't be a problem but I guess I expected more uniform sizing.

(As an aside though.. many of the Pharoanics I've tried on lately have been at least two inches too long on me... Didn't used to be that way. Very annoying but maybe 5'7" is the new standard or something.)

On the positive side, I noticed that..while the Eman costumes seem simple.. there is an attention to detail there that one might not notice right off the bat. The beadwork on my Lotus is gradiated from dark bronze to gold to clear/white with anywhere from 5-7 different colors of beads, for example. Mine also has a little "train" on the back of the skirt that I love.

At any rate, all things considered I do like them. :) I don't mean to sound overly critical. I'm very drawn to their (overall) simplicity and glamour...and those little details. I think they are beautiful works of art. Now we'll see how they hold up.. I've only danced in the Lotus once so far.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi There,
I actually saw each one that you mentioned when I visited Eman's studio in Egypt a few months ago. I bought "Secret of the Sphinx", "Sparkling Seventies" in a gorgeous fuschia, "Pharaoh's secret" in purple, and had a couple custom designs done. I can't say enough about Eman and how much I adore her style. She's so creative and I trust her completely when I give her a basic idea of what I want in a custom design. She never disappoints! I love performing in her designs, the skirts flow beautifully. Audiences always go wild. One audience member, who is not a dancer, asked me where she could buy one just to have, lol.

I actually really wanted "Hollywood" but it was not flattering on me at all.It mad my hips look really square. It looked amazing in red on that mannequin though!

I'm such a fan of her that I will actually be vending and importing her new designs in the next month or so, mainly because I'll never be able to sell the Eman's from my own collection, so I have to admit......I'm kinda biased. What can I say? I love her style!

Under the Sun
Pharoahs Fantasy
Pharaonic queen
Azura
I've seen these in person. They're all lovely! Pharaonic Queen is an older design that I've seen quite a few of.
Azura is really beautiful in it's simplicity. The little bit of beading there is moves great.
Something about the cut of her skirts does wonders for ones backside.

I have a light, light gold one similar to "opalescent" and "movie star style".
The bras ARE showy. Between the bra and the sheer sides I don't wear this one to family restaurants, just nightclubs.

Wearing a different style does really cool stuff to your dancing.

I have just worn my tuquoise dress ( a custom design) at our hafla and the material moves beautifully. I watched my self on DVD and the quality of the material and the design, mine a has a huge kick pleat almost a train, really enhances what you do. I was very pleased, far more than I expected to be with the performance and that was partly due to the dress and the way it accentauated a very basic dance.Eman was a dancer and has that knowledge of what the material will do for you. The long length is no problem and others will tell you you don't trip. ( I did catch my toe in a loose thread caught in the hem but not in the material )Wiggle and another friend whose costumes I also have put up on the gallery a week or so ago wore Emans (can't remember what Dahlal calls them) but they are known to us as "Pharonic" with ankhs etc and "the turq/gold/blue? that Randa wore!!!!" Again both "move beautifully" and are long and no problem! The bras feel really secure although I had to alter the straps on mine and refit to dress but once that was done oooo...mrs...I feel like a queen wether I'm dancing or not.
I also have a 2 piece that is not on Dahlal but has the signature row of beads and motif hanging form the bra and the little mesh cut out at the waist. I, and I know other do, find a problems not with bras but with skirts. I had to "fix mine at the waist to stop sliiiiddding down gradually as one dances around.
And yes Eman will design just for you. Can't recommend her highly enough, she is a lovely lady and her sister. And my costume , came via a UK trader in the promised time of 2 months.

Ha, ha! And just imagine what I'll be going through having all of those beauties sitting in my house until they sell. Fortunately, I will be getting an assortment of sizes and will be sticking to the rule:"Don't get high on your on supply!" lol

I Love Eman!

I have a couple of Emans and love love love her designs! They're elegant and unique, but still have enough movement that I don't feel naked due to lack of fringe. The bras take a little getting used to, however. I would strongly urge you to sew or somehow securely fasten the top of the halter strap and not rely on the hooks that Eman puts in. When I got my first Eman, I made the mistake of relying on the hooks, and well... thank god it was the Modern Saidi because if it weren't for the vest, I would have "given it all away" (to quote another thread)!

Yes, Eman's costumes are very nice. If you want to look at additional Emans go to her web site: www.emanzaki.com and click on the gallery.

I recently bought a "Hollywood" from Alimah here on Bhuz, and I absolutely LOVE it. It never would have caught my eye from the pages of the Dahlal catalog or on their website, but when Alimah posted pictures of hers, its simple elegance just jumped out at me. It has relatively few embellishments, but what it does have is of fantastic quality, both in terms of aesthetics and workmanship. It's got all these huge square AB crystals that sparkle like crazy with brilliant rainbow colors. The glittery fabric photographs really pretty, too! It shimmers like whoa.

The simplicity of the skirt makes me feel really tall and statuesque, because there isn't all kinds of crap, just a simple, clean line. And it's sooooo comfortable, too.

I've got a "Creamiscle" on order and I can't wait to get it; I just love those square AB crystals so much....
