Dark Circles?
Over the past year, I seem to have developed them under my eyes..
Any ways to diminish them? What may have caused them and how do I hide them effectively?
TIA

Re: Dark Circles?
Cucumbers on the eyes helps. But the truth is that dark circles under the eyes are leaky capularies. The best thing to do is figure out what is contributing to them leaking - stress, lack of sleep, etc. - and try to deal with that.

Re: Dark Circles?
Do you smoke? Get enough rest?
If they are a bluish hue, mix some orange pigment with your concealer and use the tiniest amount. Too much will cake and gather and draw more emphasis. Do not rub your eyes, apply all makeup in that area with featherlight touch.

Re: Dark Circles?
i have this problem when I am not getting enough iron in my diet..try taking gentle iron, also I use lots of eye creams and dab with my fingers under the eyes, some people swear that preparation h under the eyes do wonders, supposedly a celeb secret..never tried it. Yellow color corrector cancels out the darkness.

Re: Dark Circles?
Anything with Kojic acid lightens brown spots or dark pigmentation on any part of your skin. It's what I use for dark circles and it does work. Kojic acid is a recent discovery. It comes from a type of mushroom. There are several creams that contain it in varying amounts or you can buy it online pure and mix it yourself as strong as you need it, in a cream base. I'd bet your dermatologist could suggest a good cream that contains it. I use Lancome's Blanc Expert Active Whitening Night Renovator which contains Kojic Acid in small amounts. But I do get better results using a stronger formula.
Regards
Priscilla

Re: Dark Circles?
Mary Kay has a wonderful roll-on eye preparation that is targeted for puffiness and dark circles. Has a stainless steel roll-on ball that is very gentle to the undereye tissue. This really, really works. I am addicted.

Re: Dark Circles?
thanks ladies!
would a generic multi-vitamin help with a vitamin deficiency? it wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.
I'll try the remedies listed, thanks again!

Re: Dark Circles?
I love Love LOVE Olay's 'Difinity' line, which is anti-wrinkle and claims to reduce skin discolorations like age spots, dark circles, and redness.
My issue is redness & general blotchiness, it's working wonderfully for me. I do have a couple of sun-damage spots, like freckles, I don't think it's doing much for them. But it improves the tone, smoothness & radiance of my skin beautifully.
I haven't dealt with dark circles, so I can't vouch for its effectiveness on those.

Re: Dark Circles?
They can be a symptom of allergies too ("allergic shiners"). Check your diet for common triggers (milk, wheat, etc), especially if they've been accompanied by any sinue issues.
I use a yellow-tinted mineral concealer that seems to work alright.
Souzan, do you have the ingredients for the Mary Kay stuff handy?

The past year has been a bumper crop in terms of allergies for me, I've had sinus infections with accompanying headaches for the entirety of '07, I thought that some sinus swelling might be the cause of it, but wasn't sure, just getting tired of seeing myself looking so tired!

Re: Dark Circles?
I've developed dark circles in the past year or two, and I definitely know it's due to lack of sleep. I was acutally going to post something about this issue as well...

Re: Dark Circles?
I've started using Covergirl's Advance Radiance under eye concealer, and it has really helped reduce the appearance of my dark circles. You need to use it sparingly, though, to avoid looking jaundiced!. Advanced Radiance Age-Defying Concealer :: CoverGirl
Someone mentioned lack of iron as a potential cause - that's interesting, I wonder if that might be my issue? I developed dark circles for the first time in my life last year when I went on a higher-protein, less-carb diet. It really helped with losing weight, and seems healthy enough, but I often wonder if I'm not getting enough iron. I don't eat meat, so my iron was typically from lots of leafy green veggies. Now that I eat more protein (fish, dairy) I seem to be eating less leafy veggies. Hmmm.
Any way to test iron levels without a dreaded needle?

Me too and it's just hereditary for some of us. I like that they make me look kind of scary and serious!

Re: Dark Circles?
I've just posted a new thread on this very subject, then found out Kina has already started one. I have big bags under my eyes too, I think I will be looking into introducing some more iron into my diet and see what happens. Thanks ladies.

I might have allergies, i thought they were seasonal, but there ain't been pollen in MA in months. I might be allergic to my cats, but they're not going anywhere, expecially since I've learned to type around them
I'm going to try the multivitamin and iron and see if that helps, couldn't hurt, right?

Re: Dark Circles?
Let us know if anything works. Even though I've accepted mine, I am definitely open to things that might minimize them!
